Waiting to see the product. Not sure how an AI only device will be perceived by the market. Hope it won't have a subscription service tied to it.

Sam Altman and ChatGPT need to be shutdown or diversified, too much of a monopoly taking place in the AI world.

Wasn’t there an AI assistant already on the market in the last year or two and failed miserably once it got beyond the kickstarter phase?

Yet it's being treated like another iPhone killer already and there isn't even an announced product. Parker Ortolani, once among the biggest Apple simps ever, is now derisively calling them the Fruit Company and writing their obituary.

Tech enthusiast/press boredom with smart phones is causing too many content creators to get out over their skis on everything AI related when it isn't clear the general public really gives a whit about any of this right now. Apple absolutely didn't see the AI wave coming, but to pretend that a company sitting on that kind of cash pile with that kind of cultural cache and consumer trust can't get back into the game is absolutely nuts. OpenAI partnering with Johnny Ive makes for great headlines, and no doubt they will do much better than a company like Humane, but I'm willing to wait it out a bit to see if this is truly a game changer.

Chatgpt was in the top five most visited websites in the world in February and seventh for web and mobile combined.

Apple has chance to play catch up but you're kidding yourself if you think nobody cares.

By who? This announcement just came out. I think Ortolani is saying that based on what Google announced at IO yesterday. Ben Bajarin is also an Apple fanboy and he was hyping Google yesterday too. He said blue bubbles won’t stop power users from moving to Android if Apple can’t pull off what Google showed off yesterday. I’m curious what Neil Cybart will say. He’s the biggest Apple fanboy of all but also Jony Ive. Does he support both even though he spends most of his time trashing Meta and other companies releasing hardware products?

It is very amusing to see the same people just a month ago calling Apple’s downfall because of the Apple Intelligence features being announced way too early, now being more than happy to jump on this company who announced… Literally nothing, coming later next year.
It’s also very frustrating because, they didn’t announce anything. They literally announced nothing.

Yes. But they can’t. And that’s the problem. By all accounts, their iPad-lite “Home Hub,” has been delayed specifically because they aren’t ready yet with an improved Siri. It’s not the hardware holding them back, it’s the intelligence behind it.
They should have either bought out Open AI, or Anthropic, then bring back Jony. They could also bring back Scott Forestall as VP of things not to do at Apple.

Apple is Cook’d. Tim’s is chasing the money, that’s all. Once he steps down, his successor will have to re-imagine Apple, a grand task. Who better than Mr. Ive. Apples war-chest isn’t going to save then firm if they don’t do anything innovating, I’m not talking about Vision Pro innovating. Sad times, but kind of deserved.

Apple faces yet another strategic blow. This development could fundamentally disrupt their position in the market, reminiscent of Blackberry’s downfall when they clung to physical keyboards while Apple revolutionized the industry with touchscreen technology. History may be repeating itself, but with Apple now in the vulnerable position.
The difference between Apple and Blackberry is that Apple’s already skating to where the puck will be. OpenAI may get there first, the competition usually does. But, the affluent folks that drive Apple’s fortunes will still flock to what Apple does. Mainly because everyone else will still be trying to focus on “How do we do this, but cheap enough for everyone so we obtain marketshare” and Apple will be focusing on “How do we make this good enough for primarily folks with disposable income to buy?”

Everyone else:
“Let’s do it like Apple, but make it more open!”
“Let’s do it like Apple, but cheaper!”
“Let’s do it like Apple, but have lots of hardware partners!” :)

I've heard many 'disruption fantasies' from ex-Apple, Microsoft and Google employees, but none of them amounted to anything in the end. I also lack the imagination to think of an appliance that can replace a smartphone with this decade's technology.

Well, brain implants could become a thing.

Above all, I don't have billions to throw around... sigh... 🤣

I would love to see the BTS of the director giving instructions for this shoot:

"Ok I want you to sit at the bar and talk to Johnny. But really you are not talking to Johnny. You're talking to the audience, OK. But face Johnny. Speak to Johnny—like you're two buddies having a natural conversation about helping humanity, as friends do. And as you both have clearly done through your entire adult lives. Joke. Just a joke there! So anyway you're just reading a monologue to your friend Johnny. But organically. Ok and you're changing the world, not for IPO money, or political power, or greed, but for people remember? You both living multi-million dollar mansions to help the people of San Francisco right. Ok and action."

Does anybody really want this outside of the visually impaired? I enjoy looking at a screen, reading text and looking at images and videos.

Why would I want a "screenless computer"?
I’m almost completely blind. I’m telling you right now, we don’t even want this.
The majority of AI features that blind people find useful requires a camera, which is already on a smart phone.
And as for AI glasses, those already exist.
The last thing that anyone wants is another thing to carry around.

I'm pretty sure you already know. He's very predictable.
Yeah but this might be a dilemma for him because he’s just as much of a Jony fanboy as an Apple fanboy. Now who does he root for and who does he throw overboard? 😂
