Downloaded a bunch of Atari 2600 games and while they seem to run I cannot get the keyboard to actually control them, just see the startup screen waiting for the 'go' command. Tried return, arrows, A, everything... what am I missing?

Remind again why we want to play 70s and 80s video games again. Don't you remember the 70s and 80s? You're not missing anything, believe me. I've looked into it. There's a gas shortage and A Flock of Seagulls. That's about it.
Because they were fun.

Don't know why "Arcade" is in the experimental version. If I recall, it used to be in the standard install.

Wow, a whole one thing from each decade. No wonder why you don't remember why video games of this era were so much fun.

Always been in Experimental. There are too many parts of MAME that aren't accessible or configurable yet.

Ah that explains it, so in the latest release there is no MAME emulation then ?
If you pull down the red box on the OpenEmu web site, you can get the experimental version.

pretty hard ? You don't need the latest iOS version to run some games as they can run on older OS's usually one OS back from from latest and or version...

The same will be said the other way... By limiting it to the latest OS. you've basically also closed out everyone who wants to enjoy this but refuses to upgrade from Yosemite because of it.. I'm one of them.. Its old yes, but its not like your still running Mavericks..... It's not just Apple doing that either, and forces uses to be up-to-date weather they to use the latest OS or not, they don't have a choice if they wanna run the latest version of a piece of software.

You're misunderstanding - it has nothing to do with the emulation side, the apis are related to things like UI Window and the like - to make changes they wanted to do they will have had to us documented and supported APIs. Once an API is depreciated its no longer documented so they probably couldn't even figure out how to create parity for what they wanted across all OS X versions, thus its easier to just drop legacy support - especially as its free and they're not getting any financial advantage to going back and somehow figuring out all the old API's. Its a hobby project, they're probably all on El Capitan, might as well make it the best for themselves.

Yes I was aware of that, but thanks :)

Games weren't $60 a pop and phones didn't cost $600.

Did you have a bitter and unhappy childhood or adolescence or adulthood?

I was excited to see N64 support since I'd love to play Conker's Bad Fur Day but it kinda sucks that this is now 10.11 only. My iMac can run the operating system hit I've been holding off because when I upgraded it broke Avid Media Composer which is far more essential for me than anything else.

I used to play Mario Kart and some other games for N64 on my Mac but recently they all stopped working. Even in this. If it's supposed to work, anyone have any idea why it might not be? I just get a black screen.

You look and sound pretty old. So tell me, why do you listen to music from the 70s and 80s?

Don't understand why this requires 10.11 to run. Its akin to something requiring windows 10 only which is completely ridiculous.
