Pretty Bad

This app sucks to say the least. The UI is horrible and it's hard to find your previously bookmarked webpages. Do not download, it's not really worth it.

I think it's terrible. It's clunky and the pages don't resize properly. Zooming in and out is tedious and jittery. I don't really see a speed difference.

Safari wins.

Posting this from my ipod touch. It is hella fast. As of now safari is going in a folder and this is replacing it. Pinch zoom kinda sucks though.

Arrgh I'm torn between opera and safari. Safari has better UI and way better zooming, but opera is so freaking fast, even when using wi-fi. I'd say it loaded this page at least three times faster than safari.

Tried it. Does seem a bit faster, but I don't like the zooming or the text. Not in that big of a hurry, I guess. Deleted it.

Still waiting to hear how opera is better then safari

If you're on wifi or have a good 3G connection then safari is better. Opera Mini is much faster than safari when you're on edge. I'll keep it on my iPhone for when I'm in an area without 3G.

Needs work. You can't tap the top status bar to return to the top of the page which can get irritating, double tapping to zoom out is somewhat of a hit and miss (I find myself tapping 4 & 6 times to get it to work, and it doesn't format to text like safari does when zooming in so you end up scrolling all over the place. The title of the page your on remains there when your scrolling down a page which is a waste of real estate in my opinion. Also it would be nice to use multitouch every once and a while, you know like pinch to zoom...

Hopefully things will get better with time because I could see this being useful when your in a congested area and download speed is slow.

As of now, i'm sticking with Safari because it's just so much smoother and pleasant to use.

I downloaded it onto my 3GS and tried it out on wifi, 3G, and Edge. It's alright. YouTube doesn't work, quicktime videos doesn't work, and mp4 videos are automatically opened in Safari lol. There's no zoom control as you only have one zoom setting. But hey, it's fast!

I will get Atomic Web Browser instead.

I bought it for my iPhone and it was just updated for the iPad. It's great having it on the iPad and not having to switch screens to change tabs. Also if you disable ads it's faster than safari.

Its pretty fast TUAW Mac Rumors and Joystiq loaded up in about 10 seconds in wifi engadget took the longest at least 20 for me.

Pros: "Speed Dial" - similar to Top Sites, Find In Page, Extremely fast, nice transitions and UI.

Cons: Needs a couple more levels for zoom.

Overall: Opera has replaced Safari in my dock for most browsing.

It would be great if Apple would incorporate some of the same compression technology into Safari.

Quick but some problems with page renderings / CSS ???

Seeing as 3G is basically useless here in Boulder, CO (with 3G turned on we get dropped calls, missed / delayed voice mails etc) it will be great for light surfing on good old edge when I'm out and about.

I have noticed that it doesn't render some pages correctly - pinches a paragraph on a site I'm working on and the text is rendered as a long column. Does the same on another Drupal site I designed with a image / video carousel. The carousel doesn't seem to work at all: the arrows that switch the images cause the page to just reload and not switch images.

The zooming is funky: there appears to be no intermediate view, you see the entire page (basically little squiggly lines in place of the text it seems) then you zoom in to see the large text. Guess it's part of their compression technology???

Overall, a great browser for the poor bastards like myself who are stuck in 2007 with Edge. I will definitely be using it out in the field - thanks Opera!

1 - Glad this was approved, out of principle.

2 - Wow, this reminds me how terrible most mobile phone browsers were before the iPhone. Speedier or not, I'd rather use the nice Safari interface any day.

:D

I just downloaded it, But it won't load!!

when i open it it's just load but nothing else and keep same things?!!

Why?

While it may still require some work, 'Find in Page' certainly makes this an attractive option. I hope they also release an iPad version.

I did a test on my solid WiFi connection of 7Mb/s+
Engadget HD
Safari
Time until I could read stuff on page 15s
Time until finished 85s

Opera Mini
Readable 28s
finished 75s

I'm going to stick with Safari but it could probably be a big help if you have a slow connection, plus you can even do low res photos to really speed up things.

The speed difference is a lot more noticeable on EDGE. Macrumors takes forever to load on EDGE but with Opera it feels like I'm back on 3G or Wifi.

Adjusting the text from the default small to medium really helped. Haven't read all 13 pages but is there a way to import Safari bookmarks or from the desktop into Mini?
