Opera Mini Approved for Inclusion in App Store

Opera today announced that its Opera Mini browser has been approved for inclusion in Apple's App Store. Opera Mini should appear in the App Store within the next 24 hours.
Opera Mini, with more than 50 million users worldwide, enables fast mobile Web browsing by compressing data by up to 90 percent before sending content to the device, resulting in significantly improved page loading. Users of the app will notice an uptake in speed, especially on slower networks such as the 2G Edge network. Surfing the Web with the Opera Mini App on iPhone and iPod touch will also help users save money because of its data compression capabilities. This will hold especially true while the user is incurring roaming charges.
Opera submitted its browser to Apple late last month and started a count-up timer to keep track of how long it had been in Apple's hands for review. Some observers had wondered whether the browser would be accepted by Apple, as it directly competes with the mobile Safari browser application included with the iPhone and iPod touch.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/5.0.0176/1150; U; en) Presto/2.4.15)

It's pretty fast

O rlly? Provide a link then jeebuz, it may be approved, but it's not in there yet.

It is, and it was there already 20 minutes ago at EU store, but not at US I believe.

As I have been using Opera many many many years already, this made me happy man tonight.

Well I know that Opera is great for slow networks. It is about the only way a person can still use a dial-up network so I think in some cases this will be a great option on phones.

This is shocking! I expected Apple to toss it in the trash!! 😛

Anyway I can't wait to try this out. Also I wonder if they'll release an iPad version.

Apple probably let it go just because the vast majority of users won't change from their default browser... sound familiar?

Its out in the UK, quite a speedy little browser, shows the initial whole page, and then with a very quick Zoom... Bam!!... Need to play some more...

Posted via Opera Mini 🙂

Just installed the app. It is actually crazy fast. My only gripe is that they need some work on the physics engine. But I will definitely use this to keep my data costs down!😀

Great news.

Still waiting for it here in the U.S. Guess it will be up here within 24 hours.

It's fast as hell compared to mobilesafari.

Opera Link is slow, I have trouble fetching all the data. I believe I'm not only one syncing phone 🙂
