I am on it now. Seems great. The only thing nit workung great is when you scroll it is not as smooth but im sure thry will fix it now that is is in the app store. The other thing that is not working is the predictive text when you make a mistake on the keyboard.

I haven't seen it be mentioned AND I'M REALLY SURPRISED IT DOESN'T BOTHER YOU GUYS:

Links from other apps open in Opera by default if you want?

Of course not, right?

F***ing Apple. Give us File System and MIME Type support for this OS already.

Edit: Same dilemma on BB i guess, too:

I'm hoping that since you can open attachments using 3rd party apps in 4.0 that you can set your default browser to something of your choice.

For those that's used opera already on the iPhone, is it any faster then safari when on 3g? Seems that opera was trying to push the fact that it was quicker on edge but I don't recall any mention being made about 3g. Thanks!

It should be, they have server side compression, so its much less data for your phone to download.

This is bull****. Where the hell is it? I have a bad feeling about this. We may have to classify this with tethering and why it took an extra 8 months to get MMS. Is it conceivable that at&t is screwing us once again?

No.

Never have used opera, is it better then safari?

It's about the same. It used to be faster, but now Safari is the fastest (unless Chrome has it over still?).

As for the iPhone app, it will definitely be better for simple web pages, because essentially it's Opera mini, so the Opera servers are the ones that do all the downloading and everything on the webpage, then send you an "image" which is considerably smaller than what you'd normally have to download (and wait while it processes all the javascript and stuffs).

I was looking forward to this, but after just a few minutes with it, I'm a bit disappointed. One issue that's bugging the hell out of me is that when you rotate the device, there is no automatic resizing to fit the new width of the screen. If you're in portrait mode to begin with, rotating it to landscape mode leaves half of the screen blank. If you start with landscape mode, rotating it makes the text run off of the screen and you have to scroll to the right. Reloading the page does correct it, but rotate again and the problem reappears. Websites formatted for iPhones show up in their regular form in Opera, which is a bit annoying, yet not surprising.

With that said, it is a very beautiful browser and I absolutely love the way they implemented tabs. I look forward to future updates. But it's not good enough to move away from mobile Safari.

Downloaded using my UK account... It is ok... Safari is still going to be my primary browser on the phone though

Same over here. Goes without saying that Opera is not gonna be used for any security-related stuff e.g. ebay, amazon etc...

hooray

hooray!!! im so happy! getting ready to replace it in my iphone dock when i get it!

Wow! this is good. Especially since i'll be getting my fourth generation iPhone soon. Imagine the Opera speed on the at&t 3G network? it'll be super fast. But, if the so called Verizon iPhone were to put it up to the test, it will just be a, normal safari like web browser speed. Pretty much..

:apple:2010

Wow. Apple haters must really be disappointed.

I though the same thing. Honestly, I think browsers on a handheld is not as primary as on a desktop. Would not be surprised of Apple didn't see this as a strategic interest. I'm sure everyone made sure there would be no Flash engine in it! ;)

the biggest problem is trying to get an at&t 3g connection to go fast ;)

kinda funny w/ 1-2% marketshare the hoopla

I'm a 3GS owner and iPad owner but kind of funny how a 3rd party browser w/ 1-2% marketshare around the globe gets all this press & media attention. I've never been an Opera fan due to its crashing and use Chrome extensively on my mac. I'm a huge fan of the Apple ogre's opening the browser store to a second party, but wait for firefox or chrome and you've got something to be happy about.

i think that its more principle than anything.
