The impact on the battery life doesn't seem too good tho. I have a feeling it degrades the battery a lot faster too.
What gave you that impression? Did you even read the article?

From the article:
150W SUPERVOOC includes Oppo's Battery Health Engine, which recently debuted in the Find X5 lineup, to keep the battery at 80 percent of its original capacity after as many as 1,600 charge cycles – double the industry standard of just 800 cycles.
Seems better to me, no? This isn't your typical lithium-ion battery...

I actually hope this is safe and is something Apple will lose market shares to.

I've seen wireless charging at lower speeds that was not safe and got extremely hot. So I really hope this is something new that's actually accessible and stable enough for the average consumer to use safely.

Apple desperately needs more competition. Good on Oppo for doing something Apple would never.

Is there anyone else now searching for all the OTHER things mentioned in this article? :) Seems the fast battery charging is the least interesting of them all :D

Yeah, this is an Intel solution. “We need a huge battery because our system isn’t very efficient, sooooo, let’s pour on the power to make it charge faster.” The more impressive solution in my eyes would be all day good performance from the phone on a 500 mAh capacity battery.
I agree it’s just flashy buzzwords, comparing a unreleased phone, to last years iPhone. Show me an efficient, slim phone, that won’t over heat or need a battery replacement in 3 year.

This seems like an instance of solving the wrong problem.

problem - I need to charge my phone more than once a day
solution - make a phone capable of charging to full charge in 15 minutes!

How much does this subsystem cost? for the 0.5% of users that want to charge their phone in 15 minutes regularly?

Information for battery health and charging tips has always been the most wide ranging and contradictory insanity. About the most consistent things I've ever heard are heat is bad, and the faster the charge, the worse it is for the long-term battery healthy, likely because of the heat.

I appreciate the tech existing, and I suppose having it available at certain public locations would be awesome for those in need of a quick boost, but I can't imagine overusing this to be anything but detrimental to the battery.

Funny thing is, I've never had my phone's battery drop below 50% after a full day. But then again, I almost never use my device outside a few phone calls and texts a day.

that was my first reaction too, and in my reply, but ... battery technology for cars lets you charge an EV battery 0-80 in 30 min or so, and that has little impact to battery life. So, this is likely NOT your "standard" LiIon battery ...
EVs have active cooling for their batteries (except for the first gen Nissan Leaf), so they can safely charge at much higher C-rates than phones without impacting battery lifespan.

It’s very interesting indeed. With charging speeds this fast you A) Don’t need as big batteries, and B) don’t need to charge them full, expanding their battery life.

Wow! That’s pretty impressive. The impact on the battery life doesn't seem too good tho. I have a feeling it degrades the battery a lot faster too.

I guess the race to fastest charging is on. 🔋 ⚡️🔌
No, the race is not on. If someone crashes their car into a brick wall, do you say the race to the crashiest car is on?

So in other words, the user has to pay way more attention to their batteries vs today full day and charging overnight… but to each their own

Ridiculously fast charging AND massively improving battery life is amazing and an incredible engineering feat. Very much looking forward to the hands on reviews to see if there are any caveats or asterisks attached.

Great job Oppo.

really, we NEED that?
what's the impact on battery life?

Actually we do.
My OnePlus charges full in 40 minutes from 0. My 13PM takes for freaking ever.
The ability to drop it on the charging stand and get 50%+ in just a few minutes is awesome.

Would love to see some fast charging on the iPhone.

btw - after 7 months of main device use. battery life on my OnePlus has only dropped 2% and I use fast charging pretty much all the time. I don't think this is the impact you think it might be.

I personally feel we don't need to charge this quickly on the phone. I rather they figure out how to do it with EV with less cost.

Yeah Apple is gravely behind here.

Yet notice how chunky that case was on that Oppo and how the hand model did NOT touch the phone after it was fully charged?!
- wonder how hot that phone got. If one has to wait 20 mins to pick it up after charge and cooling whats the point?

That surprised me - size.
My OnePlus 9Pro is thinner and lighter than my 13ProMax and does the 65W fast charge. Very convenient and the phone only gets mildly warm on a 50%+ charge. has had little impact if at all to the battery life so far (7 months).

Either way, it would be nice to see faster charging on the iPhone.
