I'm in the same boat with you on this, but this could be a nice option during very long travel days when you're away from outlets for a long time. I hope to see the technology perfected!

Some days I have very heavy use with my 1+ and having the ability to drop it on the fast charger getting about 60%-70% after about 30 minutes (wireless) makes for a convenient option. When my 13PM gets low, usually at inconvenient times, all I can do is plug it in and wait ... wait ... etc...

Be nice to see a much faster charging iPhone. Even 0-100% in an hour would be awesome.

People are definitely murdering their batteries with the current fad for fast charging. My evidence is the number of iPhone 12s I see on eBay with battery health values in the 85-89% range...after 1 year. My 6S (no Qi or fast charging available) was still at 84% health after 4 years. I'm sure OPPO have tried to implement some kind of battery health extension but this cannot be good for the battery (or there is some major disclaimer such as the 1600 cycles do not use fast charge etc)

I fully appreciate that sometimes people will need a quick burst of charge (e.g. coming home with a low battery and needing to top it up before heading out again), but the norm for overnight charging should be simply a 5 W charge to 80-90% capacity. I would love Apple to implement a maximum charge feature (as electric cars have) - the battery optimisation feature doesn't work unless you have a very fixed schedule (and I still wouldn't want it to charge to 100% daily).

I think a sweet point between charging time and battery lifespan is important. I know some phone users are on the go all time and need an extra quick power AQAP but this is not a race. Keeping the battery in good health is important too.

Take a look at electric cars. I doubt this is the impact many here seem to assume it is. Is there a trade-off? Likely. But at that level? Really doubt it.

Actually we do.
My OnePlus charges full in 40 minutes from 0. My 13PM takes for freaking ever.
The ability to drop it on the charging stand and get 50%+ in just a few minutes is awesome.

Would love to see some fast charging on the iPhone.

btw - after 7 months of main device use. battery life on my OnePlus has only dropped 2% and I use fast charging pretty much all the time. I don't think this is the impact you think it might be.
well, some do want this and will benefit, but not all ...
with my current usage, I'm not even at 50% on my 13PM at the end of the day so I'm perfectly fine charging overnight but I am not everyone either ...

as for battery life, as I've said in other replies on this thread, same is being done on EVs today and the impact seems negligible. Battery technology is ever evolving, and I am quite sure that the battery Opposite is using here is not your "standard" LiIon ...

I'm waiting for a charger that requires me to install a 240V electric clothes dryer socket to charge my phone in 2 seconds.
I don't want any charger at all. Whatever happened to true wireless, over the air charging? I should be able to keep my phone charged just by walking around with my phone in my pocket. Plugging in or setting onto an induction charger is so 2022. Oh, wait...

Battery life goes way down, and device heat level goes way up! So if you want to kill your battery in record time while burning your house down in the process...
Yep, totally, because they didn’t think of that! How silly of them!

Agree, my car has that feature. I would also like a feature that optimizes for battery longevity, not charge speed. During the day I don't mind sacrificing some longevity for faster charging, but would prefer trickle charging overnight. iOS's charge optimization doesn't seem to be exactly that, unless I'm misinterpreting what it's trying to do.

Since 2007:

5W -> 10W -> 12W -> 18W -> 22W -> 27W (13 Pro Max)

Same wattage for years you say.
Show me where Apple makes a 27w phone charger? And you’re missing the current 20w, so your list is already incorrect.

These threads always crack me up. Like there’s some amazing new technology available to everyone that has no costs or downsides and Apple isn’t implementing it because…why exactly?

So far, only Xiaomi and Motorola have mentioned working on this as far as I've seen. I'm sure others are working on it as well.

I just filed a patent for a method in which you can charge your phone to full in about 10 seconds by exchanging the clip-on battery with a new, fully charged one. Also solves battery degradation to some extend since a worn down battery can just be replaced, without special training or even tools, and subsequently recycled without having to replace the entire phone. Crazy nobody has thought of that until now.

Any 30W usb-c PD charger will charge the iPhone 13 Pro Max at 27W ??‍♂️

Not the one included in the box of course. Yet.

It doesn’t surprise me a bunch of iPhone users keep stating ’’Why’’ “”I don’t understand fast charging’’ ’’Won’t it degrade battery capacity’’ LOL. Until its shoved in your face by Apple... Be grateful in 2060 for when they finally do, that Apple gives us REAL fast charging. LOL And without that poor pesky battery degradation either that LITERALLY EVERYONE always mentions. Frankly 20W in 2022 is a crime. Along with 2 year till 80% battery health yes. Both need to be fixed. A battery that charges in 5 minutes imo and one that is solid state and cant degrade is the real end goal. Bam boom end of story. Lets hope oppo figures this out for everyone!

It would be nice if Apple could add a "choose your charging speed" feature. As soon as you plug it in there could be a slider to select the wattage.

Ridiculously fast charging AND massively improving battery life is amazing and an incredible engineering feat. Very much looking forward to the hands on reviews to see if there are any caveats or asterisks attached.

Great job Oppo.
If massively improving battery life requires a massively large battery (4,500 mAh), that’s not too amazing, though, is it?

I like this.

I used to charge my phone religiously overnight. Since battery life has gotten so much better that I can regularly go a few days without having to do a full charge, I stopped doing this though. I charge as needed or in the car.

I occasionally do run out of battery so this would alleviate that.
