Are these supply constraint issues ever valid? It seems like every product rampup the same people make these types of claims and yet generally all the rumors of said product are available day one, just backed up cause of so many orders. I typically think this is just false info spread by pr to get people to write about it and also to create scarcity.

Point being, why do we get so many articles about this if it is consistently a waste of front page real estate?

Just add Lytro like functionality to the camera.

Next week rumor:

Monday: Apple suppliers preparing 3D displays to compete with Amazon and Blah....blah
Tuesday: analyst Chin Razon says that the 3D display is likely to also provide display of iWatch camera, but it is unclear how the selfies can be taken...
Wednesday: Apple is planning to develop and release sometime between the next releases if the iPad a service to compete with Pinterest to enable 3D shots made with their 5.5" iPhone camera
Thursday: the incorporation of NFC is not ready because of constraints in the supply chain
Friday: the new app of biting soccer players is removed from the App store as it violates the policies and cannibal groups were unhappy with it.
Saturday: no rumors to report people should be at the beach using their iOS devices.
Sunday: all rumors of this week are reported false by all other blogs and sites that cover apple news. Only the iWatch is a solid and clear rumor that it will not be released simultaneously with other free updates of iOS 8.

I don't like this. They should be the same phone. The same phone with only size setting them apart. The same phone. Fact it some people just don't want a ****en iPad mini for a phone. So they should be the same phone. I sure as hell don't want a huge phone that's 5.5 inch. Why should I lose out on features? They should be the same phone.
NOTE: If you are to take one thing out of this post take "they should be the same phone".

Can't believe people are complaining about this....

The 4.7" model is going to be the "C" model and the 5.5" is going to be the premium model. It's funny because people never complained over the lack of Touch ID in the 5c.

The 5C replaced the 5. It had the same specs as the 5. Unless the 5S is going away and they are replacing it with the 4.7 this comparison doesn't fit

the 6 will take better pictures than the 5s even without a stabilizer feature

The problem with your logic is that if every tech company followed it, we wouldn't have the devices we have today. Innovation comes about by companies pushing harder and harder for better advancements. Not thinking "oh well its a little better than last year so lets just stop trying here and release what we've got."

What he stated is exactly what has happened with every iPhone generation. All cameras have been an upgrade on their respective predecessors.

Exactly this.

On a side note, I wouldn't be surprised if come October they just keeping selling the 5s as it is. If I recall, the reason for the plastic body of the 5c was that the aluminum body was too expensive to sell at the reduced price. But they've been making the aluminum body for so long, the manufacturing cost must surely have come down by now.

Apple is actually more money hungry/hoarding than most companies. It doesn't do anything special with it's cash pile, except to buy Beats. They won't absorb the $5, they still charge outrageous prices for RAM upgrades.

Unlike companies like Dell who charge a very low price (/s) for RAM upgrades? Not to mention that Apple did spend a few billion for other smaller tech companies in the past half decades. But extra points for trying to get a negative point by mentioning Beats.

The almighty dollar is what is most important, and as long as they have a customer base that continues to buy everything they make, no matter what, they will continue to pinch pennies and maximize profits. They milked the small screen phone for at least two years too long, yet people bought the iPhone in record numbers. Why would they change?

Not that Apple isn't greedy, but how is that different from other businesses? Microsoft charges a fair amount money for a serial number that cost virtually nothing for Microsoft. Google charges for Google adwords that also cost virtually nothing for them. So Microsoft and Google are even greedier companies because their customer base continue to buy "everything they make, no matter what"? Or it's because they charge what they can because they serve what people want?

Did you stop and ask why the customer base that continues to buy "everything they make" despite Apple not spending that high of marketing dollars?

Unless a component can't physically fit in a smaller phone the only difference between the models should be the screen size. That's what annoys me about android phones, when they make smaller screen sizes they intentionally cripple them so no one will buy them and they can say that everyone wants larger screen sizes.

Or...

Maybe the new iPhone (6) will simply be a 5.5" model and the 6C will be 4.7"?

The 5.5" i6 will replace the 5S as the premium/flagship model in Apple's lineup, with the higher spec and the 4.7" 6C will sit just underneath it, just with lesser specs-that way Apple (would feel they) could justify the rumoured additional $100 for the "6".

If the smaller one has less magic than the larger one, I don't see myself feeling 100% satisfied with either choice. I have been nothing short of 100% satisfied with my 3GS, 4S, and 5S iPhones. Being a fan of the S iteration, I can guarantee I'll sit this one out, but if I see unjustified differences between a larger 4.7" and a much larger 5.5" iphone, It'll give me a year to thoroughly contemplate cutting my cord w/ Apple and plan my move to Microsoft or Google.

Bollocks, there will be no difference whatsoever between 4.7 and 5.5 apart from the screen size, just like there is no hardware difference between iPad Air and iPad Mini Retina.

Just like there's no difference between the 5S & the 5C now you mean...?

If the specs really are different (other than screen size) between different sizes of iPhones, a lot of people are going to be pissed off. Not everybody wants a huge phone.

Don't care. I'm still getting the 4.7" version. I don't want an iPad mini mini in my pocket.

It's not so long ago that 'smaller, lighter, thinner' would have been the more expensive flagship model of a consumer product, esp an Apple one.

Bigger and heavier would have carried the lower spec and the lower prestige.

The comment I replied to was concerning Apple. I gave my opinion. You're not really going to use the "but everyone does it" argument to justify what Apple does, are you? Companies generally charge what the market will bare. People have long been conditioned to paying a premium for buying from Apple. Apple did buy Beats, their largest single acquisition, so it is entirely relevant to mention it. It seems you took it in a negative way, not me.

Actually, the differences between the 5C and 5S are justified. Apple stuck w/ one general form factor, a 4" screen that's yah tall, yah wide. The 5C is obviously also just last year's iPhone 5, but in a colorful fashion. I think it's a refreshing detail for those that already have to make the decision they can only afford the 100 dollar (w/ subsidy in the US) model. 5C buyers get the perk of "oh but mine is the cute one". 5S buyers did not have to compromise a well accepted form factor (4 inch screen) to get the more expensive hardware.

Overall, I think the size of screen is going to be more impactful than smaller details like chamfered edges and which color will you pick.

I'd hate to lose the fun factor of having Apple's latest camera technology, because I chose the form factor that suited my needs best.

My fingers are crossed that the origin of the 5.5" rumor was just misinformation, and we're blowing it all way outta proportion.

It's not worth the effort.

It's stupid to consider the 5.5 the "premium" model. They should pay me for giving me such a brick, fore sure I wouldn't pay a single euro for having it. I'll stick with 4.7 even if it will be more expensive, but it won't. Hopefully.

Hang on.

So, all the anger here.

So the current iphone has a rotten camera then does it?

If the new phone has a similar camera it's just as good as todays one, so what's wrong with that.

If the higher end model was a little better then fair enough.

Why is everyone pretty much saying now, keeping the same quality as now would be unacceptable?

I agree. In fact, since there's nothing really crappy about the 5S, they should scrap the iPhone 6 all together.

/sarcasm

If this is all true, Apple shout hire KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

It would save a bundle on renting out the Moscone center and demo videos.

At this pace we should know everything about the iPhone 6 by July

This is funny. People complaining about 4.7" will not get OIS. We don't even know there will be a 4.7 nor 5.5"!?

:D
Apple may not even release a phone at all this year. If they don't, a lot of Apple fans will be very angry. Just thinking about Apple not releasing a phone this year makes me furious with Apple! How dare they not release a phone this year?!!! Can you believe how arrogant they are to not release a phone this year?!!!!!!!
