well the advisor put me on hold while she spoke to them and then past on the message so i hope she wasnt just lying, but im going to ring again on the 18th and ask for the iphone department to clarify, as they have told me 3 times i can deffo get one ordered on the 21st if they say otherwise i will go crazy at them and demand a new nano sim or ill leave for a different network provider. but i imagine all will be well.

Thanks mate, I'll either visit a store next week or call them. I think the way it's going we will know a LOT more by Wednesday and hopefully Orange CS will too?

yeah i hope so mate, im going to ring them mid week and speak to the iphone team, none of us want to wait weeks before we can use our iphone 5's!

I walked into a store yesterday and they told me they will have them on the 21st, so I hope that was true.

Orange on twitter have started saying that they'll have more info on getting hold of nano sims for current customers next week and they'll definitely be offering the service!

Better late than never...

I called Orange iPhone Business...

Orange say they don't have any Nano-Sims ready or even on their system to be able to send them out to customers who pre-ordered unlocked iPhivers from Apple.

I expect the iPhone 5 will be a pretty brick (in iPod touch mode or even un-activatable completely) for a few weeks.

There was no option to get even a PAYG nano-sim from Apple pre-order.

I may look into getting a temporary nano-SIM from Three or another network.

Epic UK Orange fail again.

It's strange cos they were so good with the micro sim 2 years ago.....I got it 4 days before the ip4 came out.....and now this is exactly the same scenario (needing a brand new sim) so I thought they would have been more on the ball.....disappointing, so I left for 3, and it came in the post today after ordering yesterday!

Three PAYG Nano?

Thanks for the quick reply. It is disappointing as you say.

I had to use a sim cutter to make my day-1 iPhone 4 work. That was because I was on Virgin mobile at the time. I used that for a few months and my wife still uses a sim-cut Virgin sim just fine.

I moved to Orange business because of the network share with T-Mobile and the good 3G coverage in Wales on Orange.

Do Three offer a PAYG nano SIM do you know?

No not yet but the 30 day rolling deal, £12.90 a month for 200 mins, 5000 texts and unlimited data is fine by me! Sim came in post today, next day as I said.....great service, can't believe the other networks weren't more prepared

Thanks

Cheers. I just found those pre-order deals on Three. They really are on the ball. I'll get one of them ordered until Orange gets off it's monopolistic back side. Never know... I may well switch networks because they dropped the ball on this if Three works well where I live. Silly Orange.

Well... until 4G is in the countryside... I kinda want that.

That's the benefits of buying the phone, can switch networks whenever I want :)

So when EE comes to my city I may try that out....unless they only do 2 year contracts then I prob won't bother and just wait for 3....cos they are getting LTE next year sometime anyway.

Freedom

Exactly why I buy unlocked iPhones too and only 30 day contracts. You can change your mind when a network makes a mess of something.

I went into an Orange shop on Thursday to ask about the PAYG nano-sims, the guy didn't have a clue what I was talking about until I said, "the sim cards for the iPhone 5?" at which point he said they'd probably get them in during the next 7 days, but that Orange might charge £25 for them!! (£10 and then a £15 top up) - when I was shocked he said that they could do that because people will need the sims, and don't really have another option (except moving networks, but he didn't mention that, of course.) I bloody hope they don't charge us for the privilege of having the correctly-sized sim card

Customer Service is KING!

Can't believe more companies don't get this. T-Mobile/Orange have done irreparable harm in my mind through this joke of a customer service approach.

And 3 has come up huge! 3 even gave me a free nano sim conversion kit even though I'm not a customer, just because they were trying to help out. Wow! I think I might just say screw 4G and give my nod to customer service.

I don't understand why companies think that poor customer service is even tolerable from a business perspective.

Orange are sending me a nano sim

After being told twice I couldn't get a nano sim for my current contract until the 21st I rang up again today and they sent me one out no questions asked. They said it should arrive on thursday! :)

Alison: Hello **, you are chatting to Alison, I am part of the Orange Click to Chat team, how may I help you today?
**: Hello I want to ask whether you had any nano sims available
**: The one for the new iPhone
Alison is typing.
Alison: We only do them with the iphone itself **.
**: I purchased a sim free iphone. So you will not supply me with a sim?
Alison is typing.
Alison: Not at this present time, we are looking into processes to be able to get Nano SIM cards separte;
Alison is typing.
Alison: Sorry
Alison is typing.
Alison: Separately.
**: That is ridiculous.
**: You will lose a lot of customers if you dont have any by the 21st of September

Nope i thought the same I specifically asked many times "Are you sending me a nano sim that will work in iPhone 5?" the awnser was yes, it could be because i'm on a pay monthly iPhone contract.

hopefully it will be sorted by mid october when i order my phone. or i'll be doing some knife operations.

Ok well let us know when you receive it.

I called Orange and they said call back wednesday. Looks like they are prioritizing certain people.

Spoke to very informative lady at orange today who was very sympathetic. Basically people who have purchased the Iphone5 from apple (LIKE ME) are going to be with out a nano sim for 2-4 weeks. Basically she said all the nano that they have in stock have been allocated to Iphones purchased through Orange themselves and that they have no intention of releasing those nano's to existing customers who purchased their phone through Apple. They are going to announce SIM ONLY plans on the 26th September but it has to be a change of plan or a new plan NOT a number port onto a different sim so basically we will have to wait a few weeks with a useless phone. Sorry guys but orange dont care

I Have been told that they aint giving them out till first week after the iphone comes out! Going to make them **** their pants by canceling my direct debit if I dont get a decent answer by my iPhone arrives.

They weren't very informative. All Orange are doing is playing the game to try and force people to change contracts or buy a phone from them. No problem with it as it is a business after all.

But we have several hands to play yet ;) one is if you are on a fixed term contract simply call them and ENSURE you speak to retentions, I would suggest doing this next Friday however, and then state you are going to cancel, when they ask why tell them and I would be certain a new SIM would be on it's way to you.

Another thing to do is call them up, and then request an official complaint s logged on their systems for you, if they follow process then this is a recognised form approved by OfCom, give it a couple of day's then have a bit of a go at them, DEMAND to speak to a manager and get your complaint escalated and ask them how long they have to resolve your complaint, this should be a fixed term after which you have a right to go to their ombudsman which won't be OfCom although they will give you advice, if will be this:
http://www.ombudsman-services.org/communications.html
Or this:
http://www.cisas.org.uk/

You have nothing to loose, it's all free and legal. They can then tell you when you will get a SIM as I am not certain, but I don't think they can refuse you a Nano SIM, offer to pay for it even.

But both of these methods should most likely be used on and then after next Friday.

going to wait for my phone to be delivered and then pop to the apple store to collect a free nano sim. They will have loads of nano sims for each of the main service providers(contract) . Just need to then call orange and have the nano sim associated to my current sim only contract. This is what I had to do when Orange mucked up the iphone 4 launch a couple of years ago. I sanity checked my plan of action with Apple store today and they confirmed that it would be ok and that they would provide me the sim in store on Launch even though i ordered through their website. I have found Orange cs to be woeful and they use these launches as opportunities to up sell contracts as we are desperate to get our new toy up and running. By taking them as far out of the loop as possible it makes things less stressful but requires a little manual effort. Because at the Apple store Customer is King.
