I was told by an Apple employee yesterday in the Lakeside store that I could pop in on launch day and they would give me a nano-sim for my Orange contract if they have some spare.

Orange UK also told me on their webchat that they will have some in stock for existing customers by launch day and that I needed to phone them up on the 21st to order one.

Simon

Various Orange UK CS persons have said various stories in various places!

I would go with the Apple Store, but "if they have some spare" sounds ominous! Sound like you need to join the Q around Monday night!

I certainly won't be joining any queue!

Worst case scenario is that I don't receive a sim card on / before launch day - if so, I'll just sell it and buy one in a few weeks time. Certainly don't want an expensive "brick" laying around when I have a 4S that works perfectly well!

Hopefully Orange will pull their finger out this week and let people know why they need to do.

Ah.. I didn't realise the apple store could switch an account onto a nano sim.. I think I'll do this then in a month or so when things have died down! Away with work a lot over next three weeks, so probably will do this at Apple Cambridge one weekend in Oct.

I think you end up with another number then have to get your old number transferred. More hassle.

I am going with a 3 NANA SIM if it arrives in time else out come the cutters! I have bought some cutters and adapters off of ebay so am armed and waiting for my baby to come home...

:):)

...or even a 3 NANO SIM!

Well seeing as Orange are as useless as usual I decided to do a practice run on a pay as you go sim from Virgin.

Here are the results:

Note: this was cut from a full size sim, however if you cut it from a micro sim you should still have a border of plastic around the chip. Saying that, this one should work fine.

Dude that's awesome! Do you have an adapter to test it atall? and was it difficult? ;3 I should be getting some free giffgaff micro sims in the post tomorrow so I'll have a go at chopping them up tomorrow night.

It was super easy. Just make sure you have a nice big pair of sharp scissors, and I marked the cutting lines on the SIM card with a marker for writing on CD-R's.

Haven't been able to try it yet. When my iPhone 5 arrives I will gently file down any edges so that it sits correctly in the SIM card tray. Then I will begin to slide the SIM card tray into the phone, all the while checking that the SIM card isn't rubbing against the SIM card opening. Sound a little erotic I know but hey! :D

ah yeah I've got all the stuff ready! I'm just a little concerned because there isn't much of a plastic gap around the gold connector on my micro sim D: Will definitely be giving it a go on Friday if I don't already have a Orange micro sim by then.

Thanks for the info Sir Ruben.

Just wondering what the effects of getting the cut slightly wrong would be, re gold contacts touching the SIM caddy sides.

As far as I can tell the SIM caddy is liquidmetal and as such is designed to be non conductive. But we shall see.

Orange Helpers on twitter has gone from ' we hope to have more info in the week' to ' we have no info on nano sims'. Really not looking good.

Yeah Thats me chatting with them, As soon as i get something solid, I shall share accordingly.

Spoke with the Buewater Apple Store yesterday and they said that they should have enough sims to go round to hand some out on launch weekend. The guy was genuinely hating Orange for forwarding all their customers to Apple Stores to ask about Orange sims, made for a funny conversation with him.

Think my plan is keep trying With orange this week. Then if no joy will go to Apple on Friday after the phone arrives. Can't go Saturday as I'm down in Southampton with the football. Ive also ordered some free sims to practice to cut down if need be. Prepared.

Yesterday they replied to someone on twitter saying 'we will be releasing nano sims to order this week' I retweeted it @domodazzle if you want to see the tweet :3 they better stick to their word otherwise I'll have to attempt to cut down my micro sim...

Did buy from Apple because Orange website crashed

Hi,

I will tell them I bought from Apple at 8.19 because at 8.05 Orange webshop crashed and then went into maintenance mode...
Let's see if they refuse a nano-SIM to an existing customer.

Giorgio

The lady said to me that they don't have any nano sims in atall yet and when they do they'll be going to new and existing customers that have ordered an iPhone 5 through them first. Apparently they won't have nano sims in for people who just want the sim for atleast another month D:

Orange are absolutely ridiculous and haven't worked for them previously I can confirm that when they have a shortage at launch like this time round with the nano sims they prioritise new customers over existing ones who have bought from Apple and the instore staff are not willing to help if they aren't making money off you.

I've registered just to post here. I'm 2 months into a 24 month contract with Orange, pre-ordered a 5 for delivery on Friday, and just spoke to their CS department.

According to "Steve", Orange aren't providing nano sims at all, and the only place to get one is from Apple directly.

That surely can't be true?! I don't really want to have to take to my SIM card with a pair of scissors!

They are clueless. No communication between any of them. They dont know so they make stuff up. Saying that my friend works at apple and apparently I can get a nano sim from any apple store on Friday. Once you get it you can transfer your number onto it. All networks will be available.

If this is right then I'll have to take a trip to my nearest Apple store which is all the way up in Exeter.

T-Mobile / Orange UK nano sim cards

Got my iPhone 5 arriving on Friday.

I'm with T-Mobile UK and neither they nor Orange have any information about the availability of the new nano sim cards.

Does anybody know anything?

Reading through other topics it seems many people have or have ordered a Nano sim with other UK providers, as usual Orange leave it's customers with little info :(
