Another reason why PayPal drags their heels on EVERYTHING is because they make interest on holding your money. Isn't that nice?

She had 99.7% 1300 feedback
One thing to keep in mind is that ebay lets a Seller use multiple ID's. I have two, for example. So a borderline shady seller can accumulate multiple negative feedbacks on one ID then start using the other ID that still has 100% feedback.

just like banks. holding one transaction doesn't earn much, but holding thousands over 2 weeks earns a lot. PayPal is a business, and earning money is important to them. they can also stretch it out by reducing their staffing.

They said it should take no longer then 3 days we shall see no doubt the seller will kick up a fuss and want their box back.

Paypal, typically takes the word of the buyer, and "affidavits" from others are not needed - unless the OP will get the police involved.

I have found them to be pretty quick as well. I've only had a few issues with eBay sellers; once a seller never shipped the item and Paypal immediately credited me the money once I filed a complaint.

The other two times sellers shipped me bootleg DVDs. Their price was good but not great so they looked legit. PayPal sided with me each time, even without any proof they were bootlegs. Both sellers claimed they didn't know they were bootlegs. One may have been sincere but the other claimed her supplier had told her they were legit and she offered to sell them to me for half the eBay price. I offered to send them back if she sent me a prepaid shipping label and she never replied.

Given the proliferation of Chinese bootlegs I've given up on buying DVDs on eBay unless they are for some relatively obscure series that is simply not worth the tine and trouble to bootleg.

Ordered a mbp on ebay recieved a box full of a4 paper. Don't know wage to do.

Wage? Did you bother to contact the police in the city of the shipper? I would start there. Although some districts claim it is a civil matter, some states have laws that classify this as criminal.

We cannot do for you. You are going to have to be proactive and start thinking for yourself. Maybe I am missing something but you don't seem to too unhappy about it.

Happened to me a few years ago, since I was using a credit card with paypal
and they were "draggin their heels" I got the bank to get the money back from
them "fraudulent use of credit card" was all I had to say.
PP were not pleased = I got a ticking off email.
Cash back in less than 3 weeks.

I don't use it anymore, it was fine 8/10 years ago but I just don't feel comfortable
with PP and Ebay these days.

It will be fine, these scammers or thief's ( I suspect the delivery people had it away )
will get their rewards later via Karma.

Friend of mine flew back from Boston with a new MBP in her suitcase.
At the other end ... no MBP ... who do you think took that ??
Airline coughed up after she made a fuss, there was video of her case being rummaged
through in the Baggage sorting area !!

Yes Ebay has peaked and is in fact going down. It was a great place in the middle 90's when it first gained popularity. A decade later and things went downhill when they required all members to use PayPal, which they own. They refuse to let buyers send a check or cash anymore like in the old days. I haven't used Ebay for over 15 years and don't miss it one bit. I equate PayPal with the AntiChrist. They will freeze your account for "suspicious" transactions (only they know what that means) and you are left standing alone in the lurch.

Airlines have allowed me to take most of the expensive stuff as carry on, because they don't want to deal with things like that. This has been the case even when I'm obviously a bit over the carry on limit. Results may vary by airline though.

I opened it and got on the phone straight to paypal. The police here don't give a **** about low end fraud like this.

This is something I've previously considered. What would be a way to verify what is being shipped without breaking the system. Sellers are unlikely to go to a specific shipping outlet. They would all have shipping accounts and routine pickups.

Spoke with the seller and she explained she has sent the item and that she buys and sells macs for a living she said it could of been lost in transit and she had find my mac installed on the device. I hope she can find it and catch the scumbag. What are her chances though.

If that's true I feel sorry for both of you:(.

What was the shipping weight on the box? Of course if the seller was smart they'd make the weight the same as a MacBook Pro being shipped. Not a 20lb ream of paper.

Take pictures of what you received and file an item significantly not as described claim with eBay. Keep all paperwork, tracking numbers etc too.

This is why every bone in my body refuses to use EBay....I see bargain after bargain, and although common sense tells me that most are genuine, I then read something like this. OP: I hope you get your money back.

No update yet il give PayPal another call today if they don't sort it by Friday this week I will ask my cc company to act.

....and it's the paranoid that have your attitude that make me happy. More deals for me.

All it takes is an hour to read and understand the eBay and Paypal user agreements. There is a LOT if protection built into eBay.

Ebay is successful for a reason.

You didn't bother actually reading the thread, then. The OP is in the UK where we don't have states. And I'd say the OP is PLENTY bothered by it.

Update macbook

As some of you guys know I was victim to fraud on ebay. When I bought a MacBook Pro for £650 and received a box of a4 paper. After many phone calls with paypal they have refunded the full amount to me.

Congrats! Very happy it worked out. Honestly though, it sounds like this was a bit of a fluke, I wouldn't be scared of eBay for life if I were you. Buying from a seller with the kind of reputation you did should be safe 99.9% of the time - especially since it sounds like it was the shipper who was to blame.

You can get robbed walking out of a brick and mortar store too. In fact, you have LESS protection and recourse in that kind of circumstance.

Glad you were refunded, I wonder if Paypal/eBay will be taking action against either the seller or the courier?

I had a problem recently where I bought an iPad mini on eBay from a hijacked account, filed a dispute with eBay and got my money refunded, they're usually pretty good these days.
