Glad you were refunded, I wonder if Paypal/eBay will be taking action against either the seller or the courier?

I had a problem recently where I bought an iPad mini on eBay from a hijacked account, filed a dispute with eBay and got my money refunded, they're usually pretty good these days.

They are going to have to prove who was the criminal...the courier or the seller. My money would be on the seller, but a while back we had a mailman who was stealing stuff....going to be hard to prove.

I don't think they will care provided they've recovered the funds from the sellers account. It's now upto her to chase the courier for redress.

They would only take an interest if they failed to recover funds, in which case they'd chase the seller. If the account was hijacked, provided the account owner hadn't done anything to compromise their account they may investigate and try to find the culprit, but I imagine they just chalk much of that down to unrecoverable fraud. Unless the fraudster has been very stupid and left an easy to follow trail (forwarded funds to their personal account say).

There are no instances under which they would chase the courier, even if it was the courier that stole the item, as they have no relationship to the courier. The only time they may show an interest here, is if they are contemplating shutting the sellers account down and the seller shows the courier owned upto liability. But any recovery of funds/claims would have to go ebay/paypal<->seller and seller<->courier.

If the seller shipped a computer you'd think they'd file a claim with the shipping company. As they seem to have sold a lot of stuff you'd think they would have dealt with a lost package previously so should know the drill. Of course, if they were the ones who sent you the paper they won't want to file a claim. Maybe they are trying to scare you into something, who knows. You've received your refund though, if the case is settled what else do you need to communicate to them? I'd leave feedback, warning others of your experience(though you aren't sure who was responsible).

I have read through most of this thread, I think you should just stay quiet unless harassed.

I once had a dispute with an ebay seller over sending me an old item that was labelled new with tags. He was totally in the wrong but signed my registered email up for lots of spam after he couldn't have his way.

Ebay sellers have your registered email and shipping address, they also have your name. And some sellers lack the slightest strand of morality and are really nasty.
 
This won't add much to the situation but I was in the UK for some months recently and bought a Moto G on Tesco Direct. Yodel was doing the delivery. I was in a block of flats and wanted to have it delivered to flat 6. The address was correct and I confirmed that over the phone with Tesco more than once.

Yodel courier managed to leave a notice under the door saying they tried delivery but couldn't go through with it because no one answered while I was at home all day waiting. This happened for 5/6 days in a row until I lost it with Tesco and they sent it through other company. Delivered the next day with no issues at all. Now I read this and find out that Yodel sucks that much.. No wonder given my experience with them...
 
I regularly have problems with DHL/Yodel.
I live on a new housing development (been here for 5 years since new).
It appears that DHL/Yodel don't use up to date sat navs in their vans.
Any time I get a delivery through DHL/Yodel they claim that nobody is in and they've left a card, which there is no card and somebody in 24/7. After about 3 days I get the option to pick up from the `local` depot 15 miles away.
It happens every time with DHL/Yodel.
I have no problems with UPS, Hermes, Royal Mail/ Parcel Force/ etc.

Yeh, that's what happened with me. I was in Brixton which is pretty central in London and they managed to leave a card the first time without buzzing and then kept on saying they left cards when they didn't. When I called, they kept on saying they couldn't find the address. They even sent different couriers. Amazing how such a bad rep company is still in business and a company like Tesco hires them.

I dealt with FedEx, Royal Mail, Parcel Force and Yodel using the same address and Yodel were the only ones able to f up so yeh, it's definitely the company.
 
People who are afraid to use ebay are really ignorant and are cowards. You've got nothing to be afraid of. Ebay is really really safe. If the rare circumstance does happen that something happens and your order isnt as described, you get your money back

"isn't as described" is exactly the problem with ebay - ebay's money back guarantee doesn't cover all the things that can go wrong with an electronic item like a computer - it just covers "item isn't [physically] as described".

Take Applecare warranty coverage, for example. They buyer of a new Macbook may discover the computer works intermittently or erratically in some ways, due to invisible impact, excessive heat/cold or moisture damage and Applecare may deny coverage for that kind of subtle physical damage. And ebay's money back guarantee won't cover it either.

Eligibility for Applecare is another area where ebay's money back guarantee won't protect the buyer - e.g. if Seller says the Macbook comes with 3 years of Applecare, but the buyer later finds out the 3 year plan cannot be transfered for one reason or another, the buyer is screwed.

Worst of all is that neither ebay or paypal are open and upfront in admitting - in advance - all the different ways their buyer protection plans are not bulletproof. So the buyer is vulnerable to learning the hard way.
 
As some of you guys know I was victim to fraud on ebay. When I bought a MacBook Pro for £650 and received a box of a4 paper. After many phone calls with paypal they have refunded the full amount to me.

I'm very glad it finally worked out fine for you!

I'd send her negative feedback without thinking twice. Maybe something like "ordered computer and I got a box of paper". That'd be a start.
 
Yes Ebay has peaked and is in fact going down.

Indeed, eBay UK has more or less past it's prime especially after teaming up with Argos (UK famous junk shop selling dodgy goods knowingly!).

What makes you say she's already signing you up for spam mail? It just seems really petty to me. I can't imagine someone with so much eBay experience (1300 feedback) would be so petty.

On the flip-side, don't you have her information too?

And if you are getting spam mail -- I'd go ahead and put that in her feedback too!

Their probably mad that they didn't get away with it. I would start another email and eBay account if you created another.

Tell the seller you will be pressing charges for mail fraud and harassment and do it.

Definitely leave negative feedback.


If the seller really sold you a computer and it was stolen on the way perhaps they should be reporting the computer stolen.
