Space Grey i7/16/512. Replacing my 2010 MacBook Air, so I figured I may as well go all-out as I get my money's worth out of them!![]()
Replacing a MBA 2010 here as wellLast model with the Core 2 Duo. Even the 2015-2016 rMBs were way faster, so with this one along with 16GB RAM... it's gonna be good.
If you can wait, sureGentlemen, I also have a 2010 MacBook Air but I think I'll skip this iteration and wait for the next 2018 MacBook or MacBook Pro no touch bar.
I think next version with Coffee Lake, Thunderbolt 3 should give us more bang for our bucks.
[doublepost=1496928429][/doublepost]I don't know...a computer is meant to be enjoyed and used rather than displayed as art. :/I cancelled my i5/16/512 and just going to get the i5/8/512 use it till a TB3 version is released on hopefully 10nm which might be next year considering Intel is going to release lowerpower chips on 10nm cannon lake and the desktop chips will be using 14nm coffee lake according to Intel.
When a ThunderBolt 3 version is launched il just max that out! No point maxing out a device now that I will get rid of in a year or two
At first I went with the spacegrey colour but then canceled my order and went for the silver one. It seems that the spacegrey colour might chip off after a while of use (see attachment).
I really like how the Space Gray MacBook looks on pictures. In person though, I always notice how the gray of the trackpad is slightly different, and don't really like this. I'm also worried about the chipping and possible discoloring, although I've never seen that this is a wide-spread issue and will greatly depend on one's use. In the end I'm worried most about getting tired of the Space Gray look. Having had a silver MBA for 6 years, and many other black/silver gadgets, I know it holds up very well and I still like the classic look. So I went for the silver version of the MacBook as well.At first I went with the spacegrey colour but then canceled my order and went for the silver one. Having a nice screen that also acts as a power supply is nice, so you only need a single cable from the MacBook to the monitor, and only a power cable from the monitor to an outlet. Daisy-chaining other stuff like HDs would be nice as well. Personally I'm not going to use any of that, so I'm not going to miss USB-C at this time. In 2-3 years when the peripherals landscape has moved more towards USB-C that might change, but by then the MB will already have USB-C anyway.Just curious what you guys want to do that requires so much bandwidth available in Thunderbolt3?
Why not both?I don't know...a computer is meant to be enjoyed and used rather than displayed as art. :/

I don't really understand this part..the macbook already has USB-C. It's just Thunderbolt2. My question was what makes 3 worth waiting another year for (besides external GPUs)?
Sorry, I meant TB3.I don't really understand this part..the macbook already has USB-C. It's just Thunderbolt2. My question was what makes 3 worth waiting another year for (besides external GPUs)?
It's not Thunderbolt 2. The USB-C port on the Macbook only has support for USB 3.1 (5 Gb/s). It doesn't even come close to Thunderbolt 2 (20 Gb/s). It's even half speed of Thunderbolt 1 (10 Gb/s).
Just curious what you guys want to do that requires so much bandwidth available in Thunderbolt3
Went with the space gray maxed out. i7/512/16gb with my company discount and picking it up in a non-tax state I’m paying $1832 out the door.
Anyone seen any mention of the back to school promotion? My wife has a college id and if I can take advantage of that I would cancel this order and buy it that way.
If you don't know, then you don't need it. Save the cash!I'm wondering if I can get your opinions here, so I just ordered the i5 1.3/8/512, to try it out for a couple weeks. I see the 16gb option which everyone on the forums seems to be excited about.
Could you give me some scenarios where 16 gb, I would notice that I have it? Like, is it only having 50 tabs open at a time where it comes in handy, or is it running, say, 10 apps at a time smoothly?
Any real experience would be great, thanks!!
