I just received silver/i5/8/512 model, and I'm very impressed. it seems responsive and I haven't seen a beachball yet. this is going to be a great portable machine for iOS development.
Can you download Blackmagic disk speed test? It's free on the MacOs App Store. We'd like to know the SSD speed improvements...

My MB that I ordered on the 5th had a bit of a delay. My credit card card company labeled the charge as fraudulent and put a hold on the account and didn't let us know for days until the custom order tried to ship but everything is fine and finally shipped out this morning. Should be here by the 16th!

Check out Detroit BORG on YouTube he showed the ssd having pretty big improvement as well as geekbenched the 2016 model Vs the new one

I'm wondering if I can get your opinions here, so I just ordered the i5 1.3/8/512, to try it out for a couple weeks. I see the 16gb option which everyone on the forums seems to be excited about.
Could you give me some scenarios where 16 gb, I would notice that I have it? Like, is it only having 50 tabs open at a time where it comes in handy, or is it running, say, 10 apps at a time smoothly?

Any real experience would be great, thanks!!

Sure, as a web developer, this is something I do quite often.

https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/

Download a couple VMs from microsoft, usually IE10 in Win7 and Edge in Win10 will do fine.
Boot them both up together at the same time and run a IE, Chrome and Firefox.
While all that is going on, have a web server running. Usually something in activator/sbt.
Usually during times like this, you want to save some juice, so you might want to shut down that IntelliJ and switch to vim or VScode instead. I hope that you're not an Atom person.

usually, all that of would be on the MBP in my office. Unless I'm stuck in that between client meetings and can't get back, which is when I fire up my 11" MBA. That also only has 8 Gb.

Same thing happened to me! but I received it today, space gray i5 8 512
It's a neat machine, but I think the pro might be more my pace. it's the difference in the screen ( oh that p3 gamut and nits, the nits!) mostly...

The more I read about it, it seems like 8 is more than enough and performance benefits from having 16 gb are negligible. Unless anyone else has some benchmarks on 8 vs 16, I'm calling it a win for saving $200. I like things to be new and shiny and best available, so don't get me wrong I'm attracted to 16 gb. But people here seem to obsess over 'can't wait till 32' and I'm sure they know better than me.

I have the same thoughts. People who already know they need the RAM will love the 16GB. I've been fine with 8GB on all my computers, and I think I will be fine with 8GB for the next few years. My workload never needed more than that, as I'm quite a focused person so I mostly single-tasked rather than multi-tasked.

16gb on the MB is overkill unless you're running VM's on it. The only time I hit the 8gb ceiling on my machines is using FCPX (the MB is woefully inadequate for this) or running Windows 10 in parallels.

Thinking of going for one of these to replace my ageing 2012 retina model which has done me well but is showing its age.

I loved my previous 11'' air and can see the 12" being a great machine.

I currently run my MBP connected to a dell U3014 via mini DisplayPort and did the same with my 11" and it coped fine at its native 2560 x 1600 res.

Will the 12" be capable of powering the monitor at that resolution and would I notice any slow downs for general use?

Last thing having only one port. Is there an adapter available allowing me to run Mini DSP + USB 3 and power the laptop at the same time?

Thanks

Replacing my Macbook Air 2012 (i5/128GB/4GB RAM) with a Macbook 2017 Space Grey (i5/256GB/16GB RAM). For most of my tasks even my old Macbook Air is strong enough. But running Win 10 VM can be bad and spinning up the fan.

I bet 8GB RAM would have been enough RAM for me, but when i bought my Air i thought 4GB is enough, and it wasnt. I dont make this mistake again and so i decided to spend the extra cash for the 16GB RAM option, even i dont need it right now.

Update: mines just shipped (UK order, BTO) early, delivery expected on Friday 16th June. I was originally told 19-21st.

Coming from Shanghai.

I ordered the base model in Gold but upgraded to an i5. This will be my first mac in a long while so excited. Was waiting until they bumped up the processors and extremely excited about the keyboard as well.

Was thinking about a Spec See Thru case but concerned about this being a fanless macbook. Anyone have experience with the 2015 or 2016 model and hard shell cases?

Mine says June 15-19 for delivery.

Since that thread I have stopped using the Moshi case. Only because once the sense of newness had worn off I wanted to enjoy the MacBook as Apple meant us to. I take it everywhere with me and it hasn't a mark on it six months of heavy use later.

Also the Moshi obstructed the USB-C port when using one of these adapters.
If you still want to use a case Moshi are the best IME of all major and some minor brands. But they are all inclined to crack in the corners.

My MacBook has been wrapped in a Moshi hardshell since 2015, without cracking in corners. Only a few minor scratches on the surface but that's exactly why I bought the Moshi.

Haven't noticed any signs of overheating during heavy CPU tasks.

My Moshi also had a few scratches on after six months of use, but since taking the Moshi off, the MacBook has no scratches after a further six months of similar use. I think the MacBook is more scratch resistant than the Moshi.

Ive finally had time to play with my 2017 i5/8Gb/512Gb MacBook and I absolutely love this thing, almost regret not buying this thing when it first came out in 2015 lol

being semi new to Mac I love MacOS compared to Windows 10, really considering selling my Gaming PC now considering I do must my gaming on consoles these days.

Media Consumption, Web Browsing, Handoff, Etc this Machine is Awesome, can't wait to try and push this thing with some Starcraft 2 or the upcoming Starcraft Remastered.

Can't wait for a better selection of usb-c monitors come out and even more excited for thunderbolt 3 and External gpus to take off on Mac would make this little machine the perfect notebook ever made! lol

I have ordered my i5 16ram 512gb the day after the keynote and it is finally shipped. It is coming from Shanghai lol. Seems like they have just built it and it is coming right from the factory.

What's your delivery date? Mine shipped today as well but I have it being shipped to the store for pickup so I don't know what the arrival date is.

Mine is coming Friday. Ordered the base model in Rose Gold.
I played on it at the store comparing it with the newest macbook pro (with operations such as rendering / exporting a 4k movie from iMovie) and the base model feels pretty speedy! The keyboard are the same feeling as the newest macbook pro. I am excited!
