I was told by an AT&T rep that in order for the order to complete you must receive an email from them and agree to it. THEN it is finalized.

I tried and tried through AT&T. Finally got through on their website and ordered one but I never received an email confirmation and when checking order status it didn't even show the order number. Kept saying no order so I ordered from Apple and got it for the upgrade price so I'm guessing AT&T just screwed up.

i am in the same boat as well, i have two orders confirmed now through apple and AT&T. Lets say i get both of them, and I activate one. Will i eventually be charged the full price for the other? Not sure how this works or how they will know i didnt activate one. I would like to let my wife have one as her phone is broken but she wasnt eligible until a few months from now (she doesnt have iphone right now)

Or if they are going for a good amount on ebay should i sell there? Im just trying to figure out if im gonna eventually be charged alot for the phone.

Was there anything in the agreement of the sale that gives them the right to charge additional on the account or on your card if you don't tie it into an eligible line?

I called AT&T last night and told them that I wanted to cancel my iPhone order....they said no problem and that was that

AT&T Premier? Do you have their number?

Well my at&t order DID go through, got charged by them and can check my order status. Still no confirm email from them.

I've tried calling them this morning, but their sales support # says they're undergoing maintenance and can't do anything. One lady said I'd have to return the second phone in a store...which is fine, but I don't want to end up getting charged full price for one phone in the meantime. Or worse have them cancelled (although I don't believe at&t can just go and cancel an order with apple for a customer). My at&t account now says I'm eligible for upgrades next year, so at least something went through.

What a cluster****.

Since I ordered one from AT&T and one from Apple, I want to cancel my AT&T order and it looks like I lucked out. Since I used my debit card, it says they can't verify my payment info, and if I don't call by June 23 with updated payment info, they will cancel my order. :D

I used my debit card with at&t too...why couldn't they verify yours?

Not sure if there was or not! How would ATT know that we bought a phone from apple until we went to activate it on our computer? I could see it the other way around if ordering from ATT. If i remember correctly, there are no terms and conditions to agree to when you order from apple. I believe they just check to see if your eligible and then once they see you are they know to just charge the $199 and ship. Can anyone verify this? Correct me if im wrong.

Well I spoke to someone on this forum who did the same thing last year (ordered 2 different phones from 2 difference sources) He said he actually received both but returned one. That's exactly what I will do. Whichever comes first, I'll accept and activate and then I'll return the other.

I actually hope the AT&T one comes first cause it'll prob be easier to return the one to the Apple store.

Ditto. I'm in the exact same situation, and I'm going to do exactly what you're doing unless we find out more information that suggests we should do otherwise.

Too many iPhones

I ordered from apple after 8 hours of trying but never got a confirmation so after 4 more hours I ordered again figuring I'd not be eligible if the original order went through..Not so! I now have two confirmed and paid for 4Gs. Tried to call Apple today to cancel one but "due to high call volume" no one was available. Ill have to return one to a store or get them to issue a return label. What a crazy day yesterday...no phones then too many.:apple:

Yeah this is what I plan to do. My only concern is that one of them will be bumped up to a $600 unsubsidized charge on my card when it ships. It will just be a hassle to be out that money until I can get the return to go through.

If you ordered on a credit card that has a little breathing room on it, I would look at it as no big deal even if the unsubsidized price is charged. You can either return it or probably sell it for double the unsubsidized price on eBay.

The bottom line is you have two phones coming when others have none, so feel fortunate. The only way this could not turn out well is if somehow both orders get canceled. That's my only fear.

if they ship both phones, they will just charge you full retail for the second one if you accept shipment. If you don't want the second one just don't accept shipment, they can't charge you.

I did that for the iphone 3g. paid full retail for a second phone and sold it on ebay for over $900. made a few bucks

how much do you think the iphone 4 will go for on ebay at launch? right now i looked and they were going for $700ish....not enough for me and ebay's 9% final value fee

If you don't accept the the shipment it will take awhile, probably a month, for the return to go through.

So you're saying that the AT&T iPhones are COD? I thought AT&T was charging up front.

You're best bet, in any case, is to accept the phone and return it in person.

Just wait until it's launch day and people want their phones that following day. If you get the phone, take your own photos of it to show you have it, and offer overnight shipping, I can only imagine what you can get for it.

One of my phones was on credit card, the other a debit card. Both have enough breathing room, but like others have said there is the latent worry that both might be cancelled...but i think that's a longshot.

Hadn't thought about ebay to make more $$$ off it...will have to see what they go for. But yeah, worst case I go to the store that weekend and return one.

yep, I am thinking they could go for over 1000 for a few days after launch. Canadians might be willing to pay big $$$ too. But it's like investing, always a gamble. I'm tempted to try it. worst case scenario it doesnt sell and you return it unopened.

Good idea. Hadn't thought about the Canada thing. I think I'm gonna try it. It may help pay for the complete day of work I lost yesterday while staring at my browser trying to order these phones.
