Exactly. If I see both have shipped, I'm going to look at going prices on Ebay and if I can make money (after subsidized) I'll sell it. If not, simple return will do.

With the delays getting worse, we may see the prices go up. Who knows though.

I think you're going to see prices hit the moon when you're posting up legitimate pics of an iPhone 4 on launch day available for overnight shipping. There are enough rich kids out there with daddy's credit card that I don't think you'll have a problem selling one for a profit even after you pay the unsubsidized price.

You just have to make the ad look legitimate, using pics with a piece of paper with your username beside the phone, etc. A lot of the iPhone 4 preorders I see on eBay right now look like total scams, and the ones that are legitimate are still based on the speculation that the phone will arrive on the 24th.

I had tried to order from AT&T on Tuesday a.m. simply because I couldn't get through on Apple. AT&T ordering never completed (or so I thought), so I went to Apple and reserved for a July 24 pickup date. This is an additional iphone on the same account with a new number, so I had to do pickup from Apple.

Imagine my surprise when today, the 17th, I get an AT&T email confirming my order placed on the 16th, and apparently showing what would be the new cell number. Now I didn't do any ordering on the 16th, so I assume this is one of those hand-processed orders.

The email did not give a delivery date. According to this thread, AT&T is saying you can't cancel orders. I suppose I will wait to see what the delivery date is as the order is processed, and it it's in July I'll just go get my pickup at Apple, and presumably get a different new number. My guess is this will be a July delivery date.

IF you all ordered 2 or 3 or 4 or more, you will likely have all of your orders canceled, if they haven't already been. AT&T's system won't allow their to be duplicate orders for phones, because as it stated in buying the phone, only one may be purchased per line. Those who placed multiple orders violated the terms, whether it was a mistake ordering multiple iPhone 4's or to make a quick buck.

Your best case scenario is you will receive 1 iPhone 4 on launch day, in no way will you receive more. Worst case scenario you lose all pre-orders and you have to wait until July or go wait in line.

Except for that's totally wrong.
If you have an order with aT&T and Apple, you probably will get both.

You beat me to it. I was going to say the exact same thing. ATT's system was automatically bucking duplicate orders within their system, and this thread and all the problems revolve around having an order with ATT and and order with Apple.

In my case, I tried to order an iPhone 4 on AT&T's website, eventually got to click on "Submit Order" but then nothing happened and a few minutes later I got a session timeout (or something like that). I never got a confirmation email so an hour later I tried again and this time I was able to submit an order. A couple hours later, I received two confirmation emails.

I knew that ordering two phones could cause problems so I tried many times to call AT&T to cancel the second order and was never to reach someone who could do it.

Last night, I received two emails from AT&T telling me both orders are canceled. After one hour on the phone this morning (mostly holding), I gave up and ordered an iPhone 4 on apple.com.

I think you have a special case here. Many of us did the same thing you did, but it never allowed two orders on ATT. The one that timed out actually did go through, and any subsequent orders should have been rejected.

Yeah, honestly who knows what will happen. I'm just going with what two different people told me who had the same issue last year with the 3GS (they got both). If AT&T cancels my order, that's fine with me. If both my orders get cancelled, honestly, its not the end of the world. I can wait in line.

I'll keep you guys updated. We'll probably know by early next week whether these things ship or not.

Well, here's an interesting update.

After emailing an almost verbatim message of my thread post to AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson, I got a call from someone in their Executive Relations department. No, I didn't get a warning about a Cease & Desist Letter, but the rep did tell me that it was a valid suggestion, and that he would definitely pass it through the proper chain of command, though there's no guarantee they'll implement it.

I couldn't help but notice his demeanor over the phone as a bit, well, someone who I wouldn't picture working in an "Executive Relations" department. I'll just leave it at that.

Anyway, he did review my orders and noted that ONE of them was indeed cancelled. He gave me his number and did inform me that the refund should take place within 1 to 5 business days.

So, I'm down to one 32GB and one 16GB to be delivered from Apple, and one 16GB delivered from AT&T. I still am leery on whether or not I'll get the AT&T shipment on the 24th, so I'm still holding onto my two reservations at the Apple store.

Here is a PM I had with someone on this forum who bought 2 3GS's

"I did end up with 2, yes. The deal was that I wanted to have AT&T deliver it to the store and then I'd go pick it up. I didn't realize that it was impossible to do that via their online ordering system until after I'd already placed the order. When I tried to cancel, I was told that all I could do was refuse delivery; that's how AT&T "cancels" orders.

I went into an AT&T store after that and placed an order there to have it delivered to the store, so I was able to get a 3GS on launch day. The one I'd ordered online showed up that afternoon and I shipped it back. If you have the option, I'd accept delivery and then return it to a local AT&T store, as it took AT&T a few months to credit the refund to my credit card after I'd shipped the phone back to them. I'd guess that process would be sped up by doing an in-store return, but I could be wrong."

if they ship both phones, they will just charge you full retail for the second one if you accept shipment. If you don't want the second one just don't accept shipment, they can't charge you.

I did that for the iphone 3g. paid full retail for a second phone and sold it on ebay for over $900. made a few bucks

Update:

I decided to call AT&T to see if I could somehow cancel the order. I spoke to a nice kind lady who put me on hold for some time, but was actually able to cancel the order. Since I'm not sure exactly what would happen from my duplicate and since I have a confirmed Apple order (charged, email, order #) I figured it's pretty much good to go.

Anyways, I haven't received a cancellation email yet and my status on AT&T still says processing but she says it's cancelled so we'll see. I'll keep you guys updated.

I called 1800-866-1514. Hope that helps!

Man, you abandoned me! I was closely following your status to see what happened since we're in the exact same position. You're making me nervous, and I'm not sure what I should do now.

I'm in the same boat - ordered from AT&T on the 15th...no confirmation e-mail (I only received that today) - so I ordered one through apple (thankfully before the launch day cut-off). Got the confirmation and everything is gravy.

I fully expect to get two phones and then after the fact have one of them charged the full unsubsidized price. I called AT&T to cancel the order and was told I couldn't. Since when I receive the second phone I have the option to A) return it or B) possibly make a profit by re-selling it even while paying the full $700 for it, I don't think it's a big deal.

Either way I'll get at least 1 phone next week which will be great because I sold my iPhone last week and don't even have a loaner phone lying around to use...I've just had to use skype and google voice SMS to get a hold of people...

hahaha. The problem is I keep getting conflicting statements. One guy from AT&T tells me I'll get both and to refuse one. This lady tells me one will automatically get cancelled. Another guy posts that he was already charged full price (unsubsidized) from AT&T. So I'm not getting any consistency. It's really up to you at this point, but if you have a guaranteed order from Apple then I don't see how that is going to change.

I was in the exact same boat as you both, and I went and decided to cancel my at&t order today as well. Took about 30 minutes just to get through, but once I did it was a quick and painless process to have the order cancelled. Got a cancellation email minutes later, and my order status on at&t's site shows canceled as well. We're all a go for Apple's shipment here!

Now, part of me is still worried at&t will foul things up and have my apple order charged the full, unsubsidized price when it ships...

I have talked to apple and AT&T about this and they will not cancel your order. They said activate which ever one you want and send the other back. What happens if you get one and it's doa? I want that backup just in case.

Yeah who really knows at this point. Maybe I'll give it about 24 more hours and make a move. I'm not really in it to try to make money, just ensure my fiance and I both receive our phones one week from today.

I'm hedging my bets on the scenario that Apple is sending my order because they have already done their checking with ATT and I'm good to go. ATT is sending me one because I bought it from them legitimately and used my upgrade. There was just a gray area in between where I slipped through.

I re-checked my Apple store order today and it says I'm good to go for delivery on the 24th.

So I sat on the phone about 20 minutes and was able to cancel my AT&T order. He said the refund would take about 48 hours.

It would be one thing if I had been able to buy a second phone at full price or on my wife's upgrade (the $399 tier), but since it was the $199 one I didn't want to deal with selling it to someone in anticipation of getting charged $400 by AT&T.

Same thing happened to me. I'm thinking about selling it. The maximum AT&T will charge me is $599 for the 16GB correct?

I'm in the same boat, having ordered a phone for my wife and for me on the ATT site at 5:30 am EDT on the 15th, but because ATT wouldn't definitively confirm the order before I lost faith, I duplicated the order for my phone on the Apple site in the afternoon.

I called AT&T today and spoke with a rep in their "ECOM" (Electronic Commerce?) department, who advised that while I could cancel the entire ATT order, I could not cancel just one of the two phones. I was advised to let both the ATT and Apple orders fulfill (she said both they both would--no purging), and then mail back to ATT the unopened box containing the phone I didn't want. She made a note in the file to not charge me a restocking fee under the circumstances.

I had to hold for about 30 mins to get to this ECOM specialist, and she certainly appeared to be conscientious, professional, and knowledgeable, but of course, one never knows. Fingers crossed.

Interesting. I didn't get any email and it's still showing as processing. I wonder if they cancelled at all. Haha oh well.

Based upon a logical ordering system, there should be a script that would search for duplicate orders and detect an error. Apparently according to you guys AT&T doesn't do this, and I for one don't know for sure either. However with the mess that we saw on pre-order day nothing would surprise me if you did indeed get both phones.

Though you should keep one thing in mind from an ethical standpoint. If you ordered multiple phones, intentionally or not, you therefore have just taken some other persons phone and YOU are the reason that they won't get their phone on launch day. With so many people claiming that they ordered multiple phones, and they will try to sell the other on eBay is absurd. Be logical, and be ethical and try to cancel the second or third phone you ordered from your same line. I think it would be nice just to give everybody the chance to enjoy the iPhone 4 on launch day like many of you will. Just my 2 cents though. AND before some of you bite my head off, I know that some of you did this unintentionally and you have tried to cancel your order, I commend that. I am speaking for those that have not tried to cancel and did so intentionally.
