How is he allowed to post review while that poor girl's video was removed and his father was fired?
The proper question is why he was allowed to post before the embargo was lifted for all other journalists given an iPhone X for testing. If you don't understand the difference between a journalist officially given an iPhone X to write about it (at an agreed time) and the daughter of a random Apple employee, neither of whom were given any instruction or permission to share anything about the iPhone X, then I don't think I can help you.

So it’s confirmed he got fired?
I highly doubt Imran knows anything in this regard. He (she) just turned speculation [that he might get fired] into a fact because the difference between the two appears to be a difficult one for him (her).

I only trust videos from former Apple Engineers' daughters.

*awkward moment at home when that happened, I bet...*

That’s so random... I’d rather trust this guy’s review as his needs and uses for the phone likely more in line with what I’d use it for.

I wouldn’t call this a review. Maybe a first look.
True, but Apple didn't give him the phone only for this first look. The answer as to why Apple gave him the phone is still that he is expected to create a review.

I’m just hoping you can use FaceID to unlock without the swipe up gesture.

My iPhone 8 is unlocked the second it arrives at my face.

I guess I’ll find out this week when mine arrives on the 3rd :).
Doing that would completely skip the notifications (one of the primary purposes of a phone). Touch ID can do that because there is further action required to get to the Home Screen which is either placing your thumb on the sensor or actually pushing the home button.

While the screen might "spread out" to the same size as the 8+, the usable space for things like video or apps are not as large as the 8+, which many reviewers seem to be missing the point of. Since you can't show video partially obscured by the camera bump, the actual screen size is less then. It is nice that its overall a smaller size which is the one true benefit of near bezel free designs, but the belief that you are getting the same usable space is not true.

Anyways, I would like to read about real people use this thing in the real world in the near future.

How often do you have important information displayed at the far left (or right depending on whether your orient your phone left or right when going into landscape mode) when watching a movie on your phone? You could always run the video in fullscreen and just live with that slight coverage you get from the camera bump.

And the display is still 5,8-inches compared to 5,5-inches on the Plus even if you crop out the camera bump it will still be about the same size as the Plus.

The problem is its aspect ratio. The display has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, in other words its taller compared to the previous models. They have taken the body of a "non-Plus" iPhone and just got rid off top and bottom bezles and stretch the display. The problem with this is that video in 16:9 aspect ratio will only be about 5-inch in size due to the extra tall aspect ratio so unless you decide to zoom the video for it to fit the entire display you will have a smaller viewing area compared to the Plus.

On the other hand most movies and TV-shows are actually shot in 1.85:1 and 2.39:1 so they will actually fit this new display better. But all YouTube videos etc will have borders on the top and bottom.

Its an interesting review. Other than the form factor, face unlocking (mostly) and animated poop emoji - it does what the 8 does for significantly more money. The form factor is worth some coin though - to get that big screen that fits in your pocket.

One of the primary uses of MY phone is to unlock the screen. Speak for yourself.

I don't know why but I am not even remotely interested in upgrading from iPhone 7 Plus to X....
Maybe in like 2 years... too much money for animoji and what else.... I don't know.
It looks cool, but still.... not justifies the money for me.

I am curious about the opinions of those who do such upgrade- what is the reasoning behind you spending this amount of money?
same for me. the only iPhone I didnt buy is the 6S since the original iPhone. What I basically do it buying the new one and give my 1 year old one to my wife. This time, I'll pass and stay with my 7. i'll wait a year to see what is coming

Can NOT wait for FaceID, reduced size of phone with big screen and WIRELESS charging. Going to be so nice to just sit my phone down on the night stand charger when I'm ready to go to bed instead of trying to find the stupid cord. Friday can't get here soon enough!

"How it has dealt with my own real-life face is another matter". This is a tad worrying.

It's surreal how people are worried about security (it's a given FaceID will be as or more secure then TouchID, and you might need that security level either never or once its stolen -a single time-), when the real problem is if this thing introduces even the slightest inconvenience in something happening probably a hundred times a day (unlocking the phone).

I'm sure people will get used, but i do think it's inevitable that 2nd generation will be the real deal being much faster and reliable, just has happened with TouchID.

I mean if you only think the x has animoji and a different screen then you shouldn’t consider upgraded after just one year with the 7.
But really here’s a lot more to it than that

Think the aesthetics of the phone will be a pleasant surprise to most people. I know everyone’s aware the phone is all screen and smaller. But until we get them in our hands, I don’t think we can fully understand how game changing this is. The phone itself has a much smaller footprint than the plus but a similar sized screen as the plus. Usability wise......this will be huge for Apple and its users. Just think what if some way they are able to make a smaller version of the 10 next year to have 10s and 10s Plus variants. We would essentially see the footprint of the phone go back to a similar size of the 5 and 5s but still with larger screens.
