Never heard of this guy and I don't think I'll ever see another video as the video quality and personality was non-existent. There are many much better youtubers out there who could have done a better job. The points made and review however were fine and informative and gives us an insight into some aspects of the new device.

He mentions swiping up for home requires almost the whole screen and is awkward, I really do hope it's easier than he's suggesting and not a two handed mind ****. It seems to show a half way swipe is app switcher and full swipe is home but I would have liked it the other way around! I suspect apple will very quickly change things that don't quite work as well but man I'm disappointed in some of the implementations here.

"Compared to "bulky" sizes of Apple's Plus line and Android smartphones"

Lmao, this year's Android phones already has bezel-less screens for much less, while we have to pay a premium for a bezel-less iphone.

I love Apple as much as the next guy but this is just pure bull-sh it.
Really? Because I see a bezel at the top and bottom of all the Android phones. I'm sure they're going to replicate the folded under display next year.

Yup, definite bezel-less screens on the Android phones alright. And no, they definitely don't look bulky compared to the iPhone X.

Come on @MacRumors, this is a fake review.... he doesn't actually have the iPhone X. The b-roll footage is from a PR event. You will noticed he doesn't show the iPhone X in the narration shots.

I wish people don't make reviews on something they don't actually have on hand and have used for a period of time in the real world.

Did you even watch the video? You literally see him handling the phone and taking selfies with it.

snip...I am curious about the opinions of those who do such upgrade- what is the reasoning behind you spending this amount of money?
It's all relative.
Make a certain amount of income, the price becomes nothing to think about.

Apple stock at a 52 week high this morning due to iPhone X demand and better than assumed iPhone 8 numbers in China. Will any rumor site report on that? Or does that not generate enough traffic?

That awkward moment when you get an android phone and realize your apple phone really isn't all that...

Why would anyone get an android phone over any iPhone is beyond my comprehension (unless you’re bi77 ga7e$), but then that’s not for me to judge.

While the screen might "spread out" to the same size as the 8+, the usable space for things like video or apps are not as large as the 8+, which many reviewers seem to be missing the point of. Since you can't show video partially obscured by the camera bump, the actual screen size is less then. It is nice that its overall a smaller size which is the one true benefit of near bezel free designs, but the belief that you are getting the same usable space is not true.

I went for the 8+ and the notch wasn't a real issue to me. I don't like it, but it seems like something I can get used to.
I simply don't like X's aspect ratio. The screen is too tall, you have plenty of vertical space and that's ok while scrolling a list of stuff, but horizontally you don't have a larger display, is just similar to iPhone 8.
The keyboard is better on the 8+, so is landscape mode. I know everyone uses the phone in portrait mode all the time, but a wider display is nice when watching stuff on the display. Pictures are wider, you have more stuff on each line while reading an email, you can type faster since the keyboard is bigger. Sure the Plus is bulky, but has a better aspect ratio.
I bet Apple will eventually release a plus version of X and a lot of people will be extremely happy about that.

I’m just hoping you can use FaceID to unlock without the swipe up gesture.

My iPhone 8 is unlocked the second it arrives at my face.

I guess I’ll find out this week when mine arrives on the 3rd :).

Well, at a minimum instead of resting your finger on the home button as you raise the phone you'll have to do a short swipe upward.

Hopefully for all those who enjoy arriving at the lock screen by resting their finger to open (found in settings under accessibility), there will be a similar option for Face ID.

Nice phone but not worth $300+ more.

I agree. I used to work in the mobile phone manufacturing industry back in the 90's, early 00's and am fully aware of the mark up cost added to a phone due to the companies name. A brand name is more expensive than the manufacturing cost of the phone.

The high prices are basically a scam because initially you are paying for the investment the company put in to developing the phone. Pre-order sales will mean they get that investment back. Every sale after that will be profit because it does not cost over $1000 to manufacture a phone once investment costs have been recouped.

Apple could then easily drop the price by $200-$300 but i doubt they eve would.

Yes, but how many times does anyone get to be the first to review an Apple product in the wild?

I’m sure the teen and father learned what not to do next time.
That was an expensive lesson. I’ve worked for a few high tech companies, and the first rule about cameras was, “what happens inside these walls is not for public consumption.” The second rule was, “any pictures taken within our walls belong to us, not you, no matter who owns the camera.”

- Higher pixel density (who really cares at this point?)

The higher PPI does allow smaller [scalable] text with the same clarity (i.e., same pixels in less area), meaning more text, same area. I like to run our 7 with very small text to get more on screen, but at the smallest size, it's start to degrade a bit (vs. our 6S+).

Nice list, looking forward to experiencing it on Friday :D

I'm looking forward to using the swipe up gesture, but part of me already misses the rapid fire "double tap home button / swipe up to force close Apple Store app / reopen app" method I used to order the device. I feel like "swipe up, pause, press and hold app, tap red close button to force close app, keep swiping up to get to home screen, reopen Apple Store app" is going to be wayyyyy slower when next year's preorders roll around.

I didn’t realize you’ve polled most smartphone users. Good to know.
[doublepost=1509372095][/doublepost]
I press the power button for that. “Most of us” is a pretty great assumption.
So from what I gathered, you are either trolling, don’t know how to use a phone, or how the general population uses a phone. Either way, you failed to come up with a logical argument and I’m ignoring you. Good day, sir.

BTW: The power button wouldn’t prevent the phone from going straight to the home screen without the indication that you just wanted to see the time.

Maybe you shouldn't waste your money on beer? ;)

Agreed.

But some folks that criticize $300 extra for a good engineered device will go buy $300 dollars in alcohol over the holidays. I see this done in the grocery stores and gas station on occasions. I’m sure you have seen it too.

I’ve also seen elaborate tail gate parties where folks easily spend $500+ dollars in beer alone without hesitation. I’m sure they’re happy and no one should criticize them for their choices. But then again, an iPhone... no that’s sure too much for some. To each it’s own.

I don't know why but I am not even remotely interested in upgrading from iPhone 7 Plus to X....
Maybe in like 2 years... too much money for animoji and what else.... I don't know.
It looks cool, but still.... not justifies the money for me.

Smaller form factor. Better display. Face ID. Heavily used and abused 7+. Rotating backup phone for work reasons. Tax reasons. Spending priorities that may be different from yours.
