*sigh* I remember when Apple said Q1 2009.

Apple never said Q1 2009. The rumor to that effect was based on a few ambiguous words in a leaked internal Apple presentation.

Apple was originally very clear in forecasting Q2 2009 and hasn't said much of anything lately.

Can you elaborate on that please? Does that mean Q1 or Apples Q1 (I rememeber people here saying their fiscal year starts in like, september).

I think I still might have the HD expo that I downloaded from iTunes when they talked about it... I too was under the impression that we'd be getting it around June which either Phil commented on TV after the event or at the actual event. I should look for it, cause now I can't remember and I want to know.

I've seen Snow Leopard in action a few builds ago, but I honestly cannot say anything that stood out for me in speed or design. Though the apps did seem to be half the size and some a little more than current ones...

What I really want to know is just how expensive it will be. How will they market this? "Buy this because it's the same thing as the old one except for the stuff you can't see" ? I mean sure we MacUsers who've been with Apple since 1992 appreciate the under the hood updates but are we going to be the ones paying for it too? Because at the current state the everyday user won't cough up the full price unless they can sell it somehow.

SO... I'm just wondering how they'll market this new OS?

Wasn't the timeframe about 1 year from WWDC 08? So sometime this summer?

I think the under the hood will be for the tech savvy, and the rumored marble UI will be for consumers, along with a few things apple will keep up its sleeves. Apples incredible at marketing, so they deffinatly have thought of this.

I see... Marble huh? Hmm sounds fancy... ;)

Either way I'll buy it... I've been a Mac supporter since 1992, so I'll cough up the greens to hand it over to Mr. Apple/Jobs....;)

There has been a lot of small changes that you don't really notice right away. they are very subtle, you have to use it daily to actually see the difference. text modifications(text expansion, auto correction and so on), keyboard shortcuts manager, right click menu has more services option, and many more.

the cost will probably be the same as always, 129$. It is possible they'll sell it for 69$ instead. there'll probably be a good deal on the SL box set, 169$ for snow leopard, ilife and iwork together.

Lyra is,, like courtesy, cool; SL is stupid fast (though, YMMV)

10A314 was less "snappy" than 10A286 (which strikes me as lightening fast), but still very fast. Hopefully this new build will bring back the un-real speed I've seen in the earlier builds -- I'll know in about an hour.

CPUs and RAM have definitely benefited in earlier versions of SL.

No, sorry. I want a new cat.

We had Cheetah/Puma/Jaguar/Panther/Tiger and Leopard.

What about Lion and Cougar? Where the hell are they??? Let's exhaust all distinct cat names before we get off on tangents like Snow Leopard, Spotted Leopard and Clouded Leopard.

I want my OS X Lion and Cougar. Also want my Lynx, Wildcat and Bobcat. Then we will get to the tangential Leopards.
Here's what I like... look up some of those cat names in OS X's dictionary.

Puma is apparently "another name for cougar"
And if you look up cougar, they are also called: mountain lions, PUMAS, PANTHERS, etc... so we've already HAD two cougars.

Now look up Panther: "a LEOPARD, esp. a black one".
The definition for Leopard corroborates that.

So we've just been using the same cats all along anyway ;)

I think you are right about the deal... and since I just had a faulty MacBook Pro with the horrible NVIDIA Graphics card going nuts on me, I've been a bit freaked out about using any BETA's at the moment. So I just try it on a friends machine who's also got the ADC membership.

Fast? I don't know... everything is fast on a computer that doesn't have that many applications installed on it... I didn't notice anything... :(

Must have been a bad build with my MacMini... I just wanted to see how it worked on the mini and since my macBook pro acted up I never pushed that OS onto it.

Any development in the resolution? We've been hearing about independent resolutions etc. I'm not even sure what that means...

I'm pulling the purchase trigger the minute Snow Leopard comes out as the default OS on the machines.

If Snow Leopard is a bad name we could go with Puma MAN!

Oh man, you're right. I totally forgot that you had to register to read the news stories and the forums. Thank you for exposing me for the hypocrite that I am!

A while back, I got called a "Newbie" on here even though I had been registered for a full year (and had been reading Macrumors articles since at least 2003.) You've just got to ignore the childishness that pervades some forums.

Can't wait for snow leopard. Good to see that they're picking up the pace. I hope to see major improvements in QuickTime as it seems to be the app that's most in need of an update.

Sounds like it's far from ready. My guess is this coming October or November. Apple will do its normal back to school sale, snow leopard comes out after that.

yes. the Santa Rosa MacBook has the Core 2 Duo CPU which is x64 hardware and supports x64 software.

Thank you for your reply!

This makes me happy!

Though... come to think of it, my MacMini doesn't... could that be why it wasn't showing any improvements? I mean it ran SL but it didn't run faster...
