Among them were crashes in QuickTime X player, application crashes under Rosetta, problems with Migration Assistant and odd errors being spit out by the new version of Disk Utility.
i didn't realize that rosetta was staying in snow leopard. it seems like they would let it go since they are pushing developers into cocoa and optimizing for multi-core machines.

I heard rumors of it being an option only.

Does anyone know if these builds actually run on PPC processors or not? Everyone keeps saying how Snow leopard *might* not end up being supported on PPC processors. But if the current betas don't run on PPC, its reasonable to believe that the final won't either, and then we can put these rumors to rest.

Goodbye PowerPCs

I eagerly look forward to Snow Leopard. 10.6 will make PowerPCs (G4s and G5s)effectively obsolete. Question: is there any Mac OS XI down the line? Also, why not Domestic Shorthair, they are the most popular cat out there.:D:D

im kinda looking forward to snow leopard. if this whole using the video card for extra memory thing ((right?)) is legit, then macs are going to be crazy.

Does SL allow you to adjust the system volume using the optical cable?

In Leopard, it only works with iTunes which is strange considering a software update for AppleTV allows volume control using the toslink.

OSXI is years, maybe decades away. It wont resemble computing as we know it.

Apple said already that OSX lays the groundwork for quite some time ahead.

Does 10.6 run on Yonahs?

Will it run on 32-bit Yonahs, or is Apple going to knife the "32-bit Intel" baby with this one?

Is this really stated to be stability/bug fix update by Apple? I certainly hope they never refer to it as that, because it would be ironic that when it does finally launch it will no doubt be severely less stable and more bug prone than Leopard until at least after the first 4-5 major updates come out for it.

No, Apple states it as being a release that is "taking a break from adding new features" and that it is mostly an "under the hood" update - in that as opposed to adding 300+ new features like they did with Leopard, they're focussing on improving the code, reducing the footprint of the OS, and increasing it's overall performance and how it works with multi-core machines.

Is it the lion that is king of the jungle?

No, sorry. I want a new cat.

We had Cheetah/Puma/Jaguar/Panther/Tiger and Leopard.

What about Lion and Cougar? Where the hell are they??? Let's exhaust all distinct cat names before we get off on tangents like Snow Leopard, Spotted Leopard and Clouded Leopard.

I want my OS X Lion and Cougar. Also want my Lynx, Wildcat and Bobcat. Then we will get to the tangential Leopards.

These are not cool names for an OS though.

If cats were people, the Lions and Cougars of the world would drive Ford trucks and shop at WalMart.

Lions are also fat and lazy and their name sounds too much like "Lying" anyway. Cougar is a synonym for a middle aged woman.

Snow Leopard is a lame name. They should have come up with a new cat name like they always used to. There are plenty they could have chosen from. I liked having a new cat each time. This is just a variation on an old cat. I want a new cat.

I like dogs better than cats. They should switch to canines with Pit Bull as the first one. Then Rottweiler, German Shepherd, and Doberman Pincher. ;)

Seriously though, can't wait till this cat is released. It would be nice for them to revamp the UI but not dice yet. Hopefully by WWDC.

Yeah, they're running out of cats fast. It's about time they move on to a different animal altogether. How about sharks? 360 species, 8 orders... that should last a few years. Great white... Hammerhead... Mako... Megamouth... Thresher... Sand tiger... California horn... ;)

Like all the others before it, it does not.

There is no putting the rumor to rest, trust me. Even with every single piece of available evidence weighted against the theory, there are a sizable number of members clinging to the idea that there is more than a remote chance of a last-minute turnaround to add PowerPC back in where it currently is not.

It's one of those undying theories, like the one below.
Maybe the last OS X version before OS XI
OS XI is a myth and has almost no chance of ever coming into existence. At some point, the OS version will advance to 11.x (barring a complete overhaul), but "OS X" is a brand overhaul to replace the numbered System series. It's not a simple restarting into Roman numerals--there's a better chance of 11.0 still being called "OS X 11.0" than "OS XI". Just as Adobe introduced CS for the same reason, they're very clear that the "ten" in OS X stays separate from the "ten" in the version number.

It's always OS X 10.5, and never OS X.5. It's not a coincidence.

But CS is the product (it's a creative suite).

Everyone who jumped on the "let's replace version numbers with a word or a letter combo that ends with X" train a few years ago (Flash "MX", Cubase "SX", Windows "Vista" etc) has started going back to numbers (Cubase 5, Windows 7) again. The X thing is getting stale and Apple likes to start trends, not be the last one to cling to them. I think they'll drop the X soon enough.

It's always OS X 10.5
I was under the impression that people who pronounce it as "Oh Ess Ex" are usually lynched/shot down/ridiculed...? I've seen it happen countless times on this forum. "It's OS TEN, retard!! Not 'OS ex'!". So that's, what, "OS Ten Ten Point Five"?

Wait, Apple is going to follow what everybody else does? I thought it's the other way around.
:D
