Whats a combo updater or the difference between a normal update please.

That's what I wanted to find out. I updated mines successfully, however, the update was larger than most others at 1.02GB rather than around the 700-800mb mark that most others were getting. Is the 1.02GB update the 'Combo' update, or have I got it completely wrong?

Here's a screenshot I took before the update:

Any help would be appreciated. ;)

Strange, I have 4 different Macs and never had a problem with any upgrade or update all the way from Leopard. Wonder if its a specific problem?

Strange is the right word. I have 4 Macs operating:

MP Quad - won't update until this mess sorts itself out

17" MBP (i7) - update went fine - no issues

iMac (i3) - update went fine - no issues

iMac (i7) - WiFi won't re-connect after awakening from sleep - have to go to the menu bar and turn it off and then on - stable connection once on.

I am and continue to be a big supporter of the platform. That said, Apple does screw these updates up too frequently in this customer's opinion.

UPDATE Now our iMac (i3) will not connect when awakening from sleep - there is a thread on the Apple site with others reporting this issue.

Great, now my 2007 alu iMac is a paperweight.

I can't open a browser, so I can't get the combo update. Ffs apple, what are you testing updates on?

Now I'll have to either download from work and USB stick it, or endure a 3 hr plus restore from time machine.

Not what I signed up for.

I just updated and had no problems at all.

This isn't a widespread problem.

This is precisely why I combo update every time.

However, absolutely none of the bugs I have are fixed.

Next time eh Apple?

Think of a 10.7.3 combo update as a single image containing all the updates from 10.7.1 through 10.7.3. It has the advantage of updating all the files from the previous and current update. This means that this could resolve a situation where there is a corrupted file. The disadvantage to the combo update is that it is much larger and can take longer to manually download.

The 10.7.3 delta update through software update only contains the files that need to be updated for 10.7.3. It is assumed that you have already applied the updates for 10.7.1 and 10.7.2. The advantage of the delta update is it is smaller in size and it automatically downloads and installs itself.

I have always used the combo update as I feel it is the safer way to do the update. In either case, make sure you do a permissions repair before and after the update, disconnect any connected external hard drives and do a time machine backup before starting the update. You may also want to clone your hard drive and apply the update to the clone if you are unsure about the update.

I had no issue with the 10.7.3 update on my 3 Macs. In fact, it resolved two issues that I was having. So far I have not seen any new issues introduced by the 10.7.3 update.

Boot to your restore partition and do an archive and install. You won't loose any data doing the archive and install.

Not entirely true.

:D

That = wet eggs. And believe me wet eggs have broken. They are the eggs that get broken when they fall from the chicken's ass or in the process when they get packaged to go to the stores. All the broken eggs insides just get put in a large vat, gets mixed all together and squired into containers for sale.

No thanks. Not interested in malware.

"Windows — which is the absolute king of malware,"

The sad thing is that people that write posts like that have no idea what they are talking about. The unfortunate part is that I have to use Windows at work so I have to put up with its problems that never seem to be fixed by any update that has been pushed onto the machine by MS.

I choose to use OS X at home for a good reason. That reason is proven to me everyday I am using Windows at work.

Glad I didn't update last night... This is ridiculous :mad:

Update using the combo update, problem solved.

Thank god... I waiting for you to confirm, because clearly if iFanboy doesn't have a problem, it cannot be widespread.

Macbook updated without issue. Took a chance & reinstalled Lion on my iMac & the combo update went smoothly. Also, all my music making software is working as it always did in SL & didn't do in Lion till last night. Still not seeing a real reason to use Lion over SL but I'm just a guitar player.

Does this update remove all file system functionality? Clicking around for files is hard! They took away my Time Capsule advanced features a few days ago so I just wanted to check and make sure this upgrade is worth it as well.

/sarcasm :D

bootable usb stick?

my MBA is totally screwed, I get the lovely GUI crash box when I open everything.

If I put the combo onto a bootable usb stick (much like putting Lion onto a bootable usb) would I be able to install it from there? coz otherwize I'm *********D!!!

cheers

screwed and I know it. . .

I have been tried 3 d/l of the combo and cannot get the checksum to validate on the back-end.

So 9 hours later--I cannot get this combo updater?

.screwed.

bought a brand new mini today, and like the old one, that glitch came right up. I even got kernel panics and console text flooding the screen.

then I rebooted and it was fine. WEIRD.

No "save as" in Text Edit still?

Why would Apple take this vital ability completely out of Text Edit in Lion. Why not leave it as an option? I had hoped the latest Lion update would fix this huge error.

This kind of crap makes me wonder how long it'll be before we're using iOS on our Macs. Apple have really just given up with OS X now. Lion has so far been the worse OS X release (both feature and stability wise) over the last 5 years.

How the hell do they let such blatantly obvious bugs slip through...

And the lack of a fix for the PHP version is worrying. Thats a simple 30 second fix verses a major known security flaw.

Pick it up Apple, you're loosing it.

You can download the latest PHP version and build from source at this link.

Or install from available packages found at this link.

Downloading now (via SU); just curious: I've had File Vault 2 activated ... will this upgrade require reactivating it?
