I left mine to combo update over night and came back the next morning to crashes that looked like what they are showing in the screen pics. Rebooted, and I think things have been okay so far. Tense moments for a few...

lol, you're making it out to be like everyone has this issue. who knew apple had the same type of person scared to update their software. XP or death right? lol

Nah, I used win2k up until I switched to Mac in 2006

But honestly, I hear so many negative things about Lion, all these very annoying bugs, plus the lack of Rosetta and ruining of Spaces and things like that make me really hesitant to "upgrade."

I'll be buying a 2012 MBP upon release, but I will do my damnedest to get SL running on it.

Why would Apple take this vital ability completely out of Text Edit in Lion. Why not leave it as an option? I had hoped the latest Lion update would fix this huge error.

It really just changed names. You have "Export" in some apps. In TextEdit, use the Duplicate function.

That isn't to say I like either, but just in case you weren't aware of that option.

Finally pulled the trigger after extensive TM and SuperDuper backups. Updated using the Combo and so far all looks OK. Early 2011 MBP 15"

there are two different combos for 10.7.3

- OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client) (997.01 MB)
- OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo) (1.2 GB)

There is also a size difference. They are both combos, but just interested in the differences?

The pages are exactly the same, same wording apart from the size and word 'client'

This would not have happened when Steve was in charge.....the guy responsible would already have had an 'accident' and driven his car off a cliff edge.

Jobs would have allowed Lion to have been released though. It's a festering turd of an OS. It's so bad it's ruined what used to be an enjoyable computing experience.

That may will be the case in some very rare occasions, BUT what about the silent majority that are in love with Lion! I had some issues with Lion on my 2007 MBP but none on my 2011 MBA nor on my mac mini server. And absolutely LOVE gestures. It's made it for me

You can download the latest PHP version and build from source at this link.

PHP-5.3.10
http://www.php.net/get/php-5.3.10.tar.gz/from/a/mirror

Or install from available packages found at this link.

Using Packages
http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.macosx.packages.php

Already got it :p

I've actually completely disabled Apples crummy copy and roll my own 'AMP' setup. My post was more to the point of users who dont know how to either remove, or update the default PHP version shipped by Apple are at risk, just because Apple cant take 30 seconds to update their packages before going in to beta on a release.

Sorry, we all forgot that you were able to read the minds of the deceased.

Lion was clearly 'ok' as far as Jobs was concerned else it wouldn't have been released.

There are bugs in lion (very noticeable bugs at that) that have existed since it came out. One of them I run into several times a day.

Note that this is not me doing anything wrong, the bug exists on my Mac Pro (even after a complete reformat) and my new MacBook Air 11". It also exists on my ex-roommates 08 White MacBook and his 24" 2009 iMac.

Bugs that you encounter every time you open Finder are hardly 'rare'.

I don't want to go down the route of 'time served', but in my personal experience I have not used finder in weeks. People that come to macs from windows OSs, tend to want to find a way to replicate 'file manager' in Mac environment. Although I have been using Macs since 1996, I have also had plenty of Windows based experience since 2000 and can find my way around both platforms. I am not saying you should put up with bugs in Finder (what are they by the way?) but try living without it and you will feel so liberated! Do you really need it?

My "Software Update" (with the 730mb 10.7.3 update) went just fine on my early-2011 MacBook Pro (which I bought in August, and already came with LION installed) the night of 10.7.3. release. No problems at all with CUI errors or any slowdown.

But I read up on the issue yesterday and I did the Combo Update last night, along with the 'Repair Disk Permissions' (I had never ever done either of those before), just to be safe and go through the routine that you guys seem to love. Only things the Repair Permissions found basically were wrong permissions on a couple minor /library directories such as 'webauth'. Insignificant, at worst.

Just an FYI.........All is will in my own MBPro-land, I'm happy to say.

Boot to your restore partition and do an archive and install. You won't loose any data doing the archive and install.

I wish I could, but as the machine was incrementally updated from tiger, it never had one, and now I've replaced that hard drive and restored from time machine once this week, I wasn't amused to get this issue.

If anyone could tell me the detail in the restore partition scheme, I could have a go at creating a 'proper' install partitioning scheme and TM to that? And maybe be some hassle for later.

Or a few Mac's :p

Correct. I don't mind as long as they get fixed/replaced

I guess we now know why the 'I'm a PC, I'm a Mac' ads disappeared.
Timing is everything.

Nope. If I had a dollar for every one of these I have seen in my office...

OS X is still 10,000 times more stable than Windows

Right, sorry. I was referring to that specific screen, I don't personally use shutdown guard, that's just a screenshot from those fancy internets.

You judge an OS stability by showing examples from the shutdown screen where applications waiting to be shutdown are shown? Classy. That is not a bug and doesn't have anything to do with stability. It's the programs and their data are being written to the HDD. Remember Lion also takes quite a while to shut down when not using an SSD.

(FYI the grey screen with the spinning wheel when shutting down is the exact same thing)

Think of a 10.7.3 combo update as a single image containing all the updates from 10.7.1 through 10.7.3. It has the advantage of updating all the files from the previous and current update. This means that this could resolve a situation where there is a corrupted file. The disadvantage to the combo update is that it is much larger and can take longer to manually download.

The 10.7.3 delta update through software update only contains the files that need to be updated for 10.7.3. It is assumed that you have already applied the updates for 10.7.1 and 10.7.2. The advantage of the delta update is it is smaller in size and it automatically downloads and installs itself.

I have always used the combo update as I feel it is the safer way to do the update. In either case, make sure you do a permissions repair before and after the update, disconnect any connected external hard drives and do a time machine backup before starting the update. You may also want to clone your hard drive and apply the update to the clone if you are unsure about the update.

I had no issue with the 10.7.3 update on my 3 Macs. In fact, it resolved two issues that I was having. So far I have not seen any new issues introduced by the 10.7.3 update.

Thank you very much indeed.:D
