I think that Lion is gonna be the most crappy Mac OS X ever for a number of reasons... No more frontrow, no more isync, no more rossetta (ok rosetta is not so important, but it's still a miss), but most of all no more spaces and expose! This is definetely a downgrade compared to Snow Leopard! So I'm gonna stick with it and if Apple is gonna continue with these "ideas", I will seriously consider to stop buying Apple computers! Believe me I'm really sad about that! Thankfully my 2 mbps will continue to provide for me, but I worry for the future Apple Mac OS X releases! :(

So, I think that all of us should start complaining to the Apple forums, by saying what we actually need from an OS. iOS is very good for touch devices, but I think that Mac OS X can offer to iOS whereas the opposite is not certain. Some iOS ideas are useful, but not so important, whereas Mac OS X functionality should not be killed by fancy ideas like full screen apps and mission control. Ok all of these ideas are not bad, but I don't understand why they should kill some of the most useful features of Mac OS X.
I understand your viewpoint, but Apple's focus after nearly collapsing years ago, is to go with what they know. To sell entertainment products like pods, pads, and phones to the mainstream consumer. This is where the big money is, along with less tech support costs. Mainstream consumers don't want anything technical. They want the appliance like sealed devices from Apple "the cool company".

"OS X Lion Not Going to Launch This Week?"

Ok, do we mean this week or "this week" as in last week? Or is "this week" now this week?

In other news.....my head hurts.

BTW, my money is on a Friday launch, as it has been since 10.3. Prior, all versions of OS X were released on a Saturday except for 10.2 (Tuesday) and the beta (Wednesday).

A list provided by Computerworld sums up a timeline of earlier four OS X releases which coincidentally were released on a Friday:

--OS 10.6, Snow Leopard: Friday August 28, 2009

--OS 10.5, Leopard: Friday, October 26, 2007

--OS 10.4, Tiger: Friday, April 29, 2005

--OS 10.3, Panther: Friday, October 24, 2003.

If Lion comes out this Friday, then ... the next os x release, 10.8, will be in 2013, on a Friday of some month with the date being 20-something ?

Wow. Coincidence or planned ?

There probably won't be a 10.8. Lion is the likely the last of OS X.

Why do you say that? Nowhere else to go?

Because when Apple launched OS X ten years ago Steve said the lifespan of OS X would be a decade. They named it Lion because that is the last of the big cats.

Of course this is all speculation and I could be wrong, but yes I also feel like they have pretty much added everything they can to OS X.

iOS will most likely be the next OS used on Macs.

Dear God, I will become a Windows devotee instantaneously if they do that. Smartphones should be smartphones, desktop computers should be desktop computers. People may call me stupid or an enemy of progress or whatever, but that's how I see it. I'm already a little worried about how Lion will work-I don't think it should go any farther than that.

I think he said 20 years, not 10. Also, I believed Snow Leopard was stated as being the foundation for the next 10 years due to all the under the hood changes, 64-bit, OpenCL, GCD, ect....

in your scenario you would be using Windows 8, which so far is basically WinMO 7.

I doubt future macs will resemble iOS in its current iteration. People think Apple is dumbing down computers, but its really not the case. Down the line, especially when mobile hardware catches up, iOS will mature to the level of current desktop operating systems, not the other way around.

1. I've seen Windows 8 before-it's like my worst nightmares have come true. I'd be sure to use Windows 7-of course, I'm exaggerating. Never going back there.
2. Yeah, that makes a heck of a lot more sense, and I highly doubt Macs will literally "run" iOS in the future. That'd just be my reaction in the highly unlikely event that they would.
