Hmm I hope this is true:
"It is tomorrow. Apple Store Regent Street will be blacked out at closing this evening with a Lion!! Not long now!"
http://www.lovefortech.com/2011/07/14/os-x-lion-confirmed-for-friday/

I'd love for this to be true, but after all the false rumors pointing to a non-existent overnight at apple stores last night and a non-release today, I'll believe it when I see pictures.

The regent street apple store in the UK should be closed now. Should be easy for anyone on these boards who lives nearby to verify...(hint, hint)...

http://forkbombr.net/no-lion/

Is this a joke topic? If it's not, wow...Burning cars in front of apple stores just because a RUMOURED release date didn't happen? Also, it's a freaking operating system. Lol

Another guy tweeted:

I didn’t have any sick days left, so I quit my job for this. Damn it, Steve.

That's funny, lol

Can someone confirm this ? or is it just another rumor like all the others ?

No, the guy who said that is an apple fanboy by own admission and wasn't in regent street at the time he tweeted.

If it's true i guarantee you will see a flood of tweets : http://twitter.com/#!/search/regent street

Nothing so far but him.

That street is so busy, people will tweet a blacked out apple store. No doubt.

//update
I've just received a message back from someone on regent street right now to say the apple store doesn't look blacked out. It closed over an hour ago.

There's no reason they couldn't release it during the weekend; in fact 10.2 was released on a Saturday back during the dark days of the CompUSA partnership.

If they're smart they'll release it at a time when people are unlikely to be awake or at home or at work, and remain so for a few days, just to keep the server load from spiking. Maybe midnight Saturday?

It has at least one critical user switching bug. iChat history bug is not fixed since DP1. Mail works crappy with rules you i set up and Apple Script support is half dead.

I love how every critical comment gets voted down. Considering the people saying these things have been using it and you probably haven't, wtf? They're obviously annoying enough for how the posters use their machines to bother with a comment don't you think?

Then what are the overnights tonight for?

This is a lack of understanding of retail by the general public and why I hate those stories about such things. Everyone has this idea that following these things, it's like Santa came on Christmas morning and that's not the purpose.

Lion is not secret, and the retail teams will needs training and hands on time to be ready when it hits. You wouldn't give them a tutorial and throw them to the lions... (pun somewhat intended.) They don't ever know there is new hardware in the stores till they show up that day for work.

On topic, maybe Apple did plan a release this week before seeing back end issues with the app store? (i.e. it's over night maintenance). They have a lot of egg potentially dressing their faces if this is another Mobile Me fiasco since they decided to ditch physical distribution. Can you imagine if the release crashed their servers and crippled everyone?

AppleWorks will not run on Lion.

When you run a law office and you have over 10,000 files in AppleWorks, you use it everyday for work, and then Lion comes out and DOES NOT support ANY PowerPC apps at ALL....then you are up a creek without a paddle. You just don't upgrade to Lion.

This is the situation my Dad is in right now with his old White Core 2 Duo iMac, running Snow Leopard and AppleWorks, which he has been running his law practice on since the old G3 iMac.

I'm a bit frightened that a professional law office would use Appleworks in the first place. I like Appleworks, don't get me wrong, but how the hell do they collaborate with anyone??

Here's a stellar idea.... should have shared this 10 years ago when Appleworks was still issued... always save your files in a office friendly format! No issues later!

HA, that's PRECISELY how it works! On major launch days, Apple Retail employees get a quick pre-shift tutorial and a pep-talk, and that's about it. Before launch, they get no information that's not already on apple.com for everyone to see. Maybe this will be the launch that changes everything, but I doubt that.

Another thing. Professional media reviews of all other OS X upgrades were always embargoed until a few days before the OS actually was ready to buy.

I wonder if Lion will be the same way? i.e. Once we see Pogue, Mossberg, ars.technica, Engadget, etc all post their "official" reviews, then the countdown-til-release clock starts ticking?

If Lion WAS to come tomorrow (friday).. what sort of time would we be looking at? Similar times that were rumoured for today (thursday)?

Again, no one knows or can even speculate. Apple has never distributed an OS through the App Store. What time it happens can only be speculated and such speculation is bound to be highly inaccurate at this point.

The release date

I ordered my MBP 3 weeks back and even though it showed "ships in 3 business days", the delivery date on the order status page was always 21st July (AU). So I am guessing that the Lion should be released in US on 20th July.

I thought we said Tuesdays... oh wait AU? You're a day ahead, so then that would be a Tuesday! I hope you didn't photoshop/chome inspect that otherwise I'm going to be sad next Tuesday. But hey, then there is like five less days until the month is over! Man I can't wait to get my first mac! (MBA)

Now this is a good looking mockup.

It's got a border around all four sides of the display, instead of edge to edge glass on the sides.

It makes a huge difference in the appearance. No longer does the phone look too narrow to accommodate the wider display.

LOL I agree that is a nice mockup but WTF Random? :)

Yeah it's was 21st July (AU) delivery date on the order status page from the 1st week of July so I don't think Apple delayed Lion by not releasing it today.

So if Lion is released on Tuesday, 19th July (US) or 20th July (AU) then I will be getting my MBP on 21st July as per the order status page.

Cheers.

The iPhone doesn't have edge to edge glass. It has a black plastic band around the edge, as well as a little bit of room where the antennae are. The band is subtle, but it does something. It isn't quite long enough to cover the edge of the glass completely though. If you look carefully, it's very slightly shorter than the glass. Anyway... These two posts are completely off-topic! How 'bout them Lions...

pity, i really want to know why lion have desktop photo of 3200x2000, when no existing monitor can reach that resolution.

Please oh apple, give us your new super size LED monitor. I am waiting with bated breath.

Sure, why not? a Giant Retina Display... (approx. 32" wide by 20" height for 320DPI). It may just be extremely expensive... or maybe not...? It all depends on the demand. I would definitely buy a monitor with such resolution, if it comes decently priced.
