Will my Office for mac 2011 still working if upgrade? Can anyone confirm this?
I very worry about this, thanks.

Testing thus far has not shown any major problems with current versions of software, but until we are able to confirm these results on the final release and with our vendors, the MIT community should wait. Departmental users should also check with their local IT support about rollout plans.

We use MS Office 2011. :)

"Optimizing Your Mac"

Hi,

How long does it take for the "Optimizing Your Mac" to finish after the Mavericks upgrade? It's been like that for around for more than an hour.

So what you are saying is that you already upgraded to Mavericks and MS Office 2011 works fine?

So far I've noticed a couple bugs.

1) sometimes you lose the toolbar on one of the two monitors when in dual-screen mode. This seems to happen more often if you try to full-screen a flash video for example, and putting one open copy of Safari per screen. But it's also happened when just browsing

2) Safari seems to put a blank tab at the end of the tabs randomly sometimes. Weird.

Other than that, so far so good. Notes is uglier, as is calendar. At least calendar has added functionality.

Poor Poor Microsoft

Microsoft really is getting attacked from all sides.
They actually mentioned Office 365 in the Apple Keynote and how it would be inadvisable to spend $199 on Windows 8 Pro plus Office 365 subscriptions on a yearly basis.

I wonder how many will listen.

:apple: can get pretty passive aggressive sometimes.

OS X Mavericks has been amazing for me, not sure what they did under the hood but my air has been much faster then it was before the update.

Also I am so happy i can finally read books on my laptop... it really sucked having to carry both and iPad and macbook air. I do wish the ibooks had continuous scroll though but not a big deal.

I also really want to try the new iWorks but don't want to pay 60 bucks considering i just spend 100 on Office 365.

Just got home after a night out with the girlfriend, starting the download now.

"1 Day, 20 Hours to go."

Bring 'er on!

How do I get rid of it?

I installed it... no wonder it's free. My computer is crawling. If the situation doesn't improve, I want to downgrade. What do I have to do? EDIT: Actually, it's fine now except that Safari has minor issues scrolling on MacRumors, and Pages is still dead.

P.S. It killed my mom's Safari on a 2011 iMac. EDIT: JavaScript core was corrupt. I had to copy from my computer to make it work.

I never got that message... Maybe that explains why my Mac feels like it's dying right now.

I had to turn off (and eventually just uninstalled) XtraFinder software and that seems to have solved my "laggy" behavior (it wasn't working righ anyway; I got no text in my finder windows with it running despite the program's web page claiming it works with Mavericks, but that was earlier this month with a developer version. Maybe the final version broke something?)

Maybe you have some software running that Mavericks doesn't like? I'd try turning off any extra menu-bar or background apps that you added to OSX previous one at a time and see if performance improves any.

P.S. Am I the only one that hates the new "lights" on the dock? They look like LINES, not "lights". Ugh. More ugliness.

I learned my lesson from my days of Leopard and have been very careful not to install add-ons or "haxies". Mavericks did warn me about two things that were incompatible with it, but they were minor little things that don't run in the background or anything.

Sorry if asked;

Anyone having issues where scrolling with the trackpad feels weird? Doesn't seem as fluid.

YES. I have noticed this as well. Moving the mouse around is okay, but scrolling a page with two fingers for example is much slower. I turned up the trackpad speed a couple of bars and it's much better now.

But worst of all, the three-finger swipe option in Finder isn't working. Meaning you can't swipe back and forth between pages in Finder with the usual three-finger swipe. It works in Safari, System Preferences, etc., but not in Finder. It melts my brain how they could have possibly missed that bug. And I know someone will say "your settings are wrong" or some BS like that, but I can assure you they are not.

I chose to try out a clean install and it went fine. The only hitch was my iTunes backup got screwed, but that's entirely my fault. So OS X Mavericks seems okay.

I did the same as you and it seems to have improved with usage as well. Not as smooth as ML as of now. Hope they weren't changing the scrolling just because.

Just a word of WARNING for those of you that paid for OSX Server software for Lion or Mountain Lion. It will NOT work with Mavericks. You have to BUY the UPDATE to get it to work again ($20 every year from now on, it seems since they are apparently going to charge for the update for every OSX update from now on). I own a Mac Mini Server Edition (considerably more expensive than the regular Mac Mini) and it's not free even for that model. Worse yet, the OLD server software no longer functions AT ALL so they have you by both kiwis, as it were. So much for the "free" update to Mavericks!

Guess they gotta charge someone somewhere. Given that not nearly as many people or companies use Server it would make sense to charge for that version. Otherwise Apple would probably just drop support for OSX Server.
