They are preparing the app store for Mountain Lion. When I used search half an hour ago for Mountain Lion I got no results. Now it's showing an app that has been updated for Mountain Lion.

For the brave ones only, prepare for bugs galore.

Btw, 19.99 is $19 dollars too much, this is the most overpriced service pack ever, and it would have been the most shameful/shameless release of os x hadn't it been for Lion.

It's sad to see the os we loved, the one that had Redmond starting their photocopiers being reduced to this.

I ve said it before and I ll say it again, os x is a joke these days.

I would not "joke" about Mac OS quote: "service pack", and go back to your B/W Windows 95...

do i have to backup before installing mountain lion? or will all my documents just delete?

you should always do a backup to be on the safe side. Your documents will only be deleted if you format/repartition your hard drive. So, if you just install over it, then all your docs will be there.

Doing a backup first is definitely the smart way of doing it.
I'm doing a full install instead of an upgrade. I always do it when it's a major version upgrade. It will also help me get rid of the zillion apps I have install that I hardly ever use, but we're freely available at the Mac App Store. :D

is it ok to just install over it?

Install ver should be fine, but I would suggest a clean install if you have installed a lot of apps in it.
You could download it from the Mac App Store and then create an install DVD or USB drive to install it from scratch.
You could also mirror your current OS X system to an external drive, in case you must boot it for any reason.

I'm all ready for doing a clean install... just waiting for it now... do they release it at midnight or sometime during the day? :p

Anyone able to download/buy it from the App Store yet? It's 1:30 AM here in the eastern side of the US... no dice yet on getting the app store here to show ML. Even the up-to-date page on Apple's site is still missing the ability to get the redemption code for the purchase. Someone did mention though that the download will be live at around 10 AM (PST)... but can't find any confirmation.

I'm suffering from early-adopter syndrome.

Okay so where is it? It's 7:41am over here, just about to go to work. Would've been nice to let it download during the day so I can install at night,

The advantage of physical copies of an OSX upgrade was that you would get it at 12 o clock local time. Now we have to wait till it becomes 12 in cupertino. Did cost much more but we knew exactly when we were going to get it.

Darn it, it's almost 1:00 here and still not ML! They probably if they do realize it at midnight would be at California Time and that would be at 2:00 and I don't feel like staying up any longer... That is even if they do release it at midnight. Probably be at 6:00 their time... or 8:00 mine so sleep till 8:00. sounds pretty good to me!

1 Hour and 5 minutes... and counting.

EDIT: for a midnight release!

----------

They should allow users to Pre-Buy it and Pre-Download it.... Then at midnight, unlock it so it can be installed... wouldn't that be nice? Maybe for OS XI

So can anyone help me understand

If I download ML, What happens then, I want to keep all of my stuff on my computer without having to backup all my data is it possible to do this? If so how would I go about doing this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Download ML and run the installer. It will migrate all your stuff for you.

The Mountain Lion installer does an upgrade of your system so all your files and such remain intact, but it's highly recommended to back everything up (or at least the most important documents) in case anything goes wrong.
