Download ML and run the installer. It will migrate all your stuff for you.
The Mountain Lion installer does an upgrade of your system so all your files and such remain intact, but it's highly recommended to back everything up (or at least the most important documents) in case anything goes wrong.
Remember that Google is your best friend. How would I go about creating a Mountain Lion install disk from the App Store download image file?
But what happens with Apps that are not compatible with ML... The wont work and we ll have to wait for each of them to get an update?
I see that Apple is stepping in with the Penn State version of OSX.
I will pass on this version.
Yeah me too. I've copied my 137GB of games on Steam to an external, removed my Windows 7 partition, copied all my files on OS X to an external, and now... we waitShould these people really be installing an OS when asking questions like that?! /joke
I can't wait to get home for work to Download ML. I have iTunes store credit from a gift card I've had for a while. Saved it for ML!![]()

I dunno, but I'd rather pay $20 every year than spend a hundred bucks once every three (or so) years for a competitor's operating system. Especially when one can install OS X on multiple systems.
Plus, I won't be paying $20 to upgrade to Mountain Lion. I'll be paying $16 because I figured out how to (legally) game the iTunes/App Store system.
I find a DVD doesn't have enough space, but a flash drive or external drive works OK.
Doing a backup first is definitely the smart way of doing it.
I'm doing a full install instead of an upgrade. I always do it when it's a major version upgrade. It will also help me get rid of the zillion apps I have install that I hardly ever use, but we're freely available at the Mac App Store.![]()

I can't believe no geek has pointed this out! It's PDT, not PST!![]()
Not sure what OS you're talking about, but Windows 8 that will be available next month will have an upgrade price of 39$, and you get skydrive (Microsoft's version of iCloud) for free...
So at the end of the day, Microsoft has a cheaper solution...
