Yes I know most will never use it or need to with the boot partition found on all new Mac's.

Even the boot partition isn't necessary anymore on newer machines. Even further decreasing the need to enable those who feel the need to hold some sort of physical media in their hand.

Another companies have completed many midnight releases. So could Apple!

I don't know if I'd compare Mountain Lion to a WoW expansion. :p

Right now i don't understand Apple.... They could release ML many times if they just released it when each time zone woke up... Or if it was midnight release... Another companies have completed many midnight releases. So could Apple!

They're probably relying that not everyone is going to rush to App Store at the same time - yes there'll be a peak right after it has been released, but then it'll calm down. Such a big release at once is a great opportunity to gather data about their content delivery network bottlenecks. And queueing adds interest, and Apple is happy to later present numbers like "Mountain Lion was downloaded xx million times in the first 24 hours."

Thanks for the correction, thought we would get shafted :)

Even more of a reason, and additionally, not to torrent it up !!

Anybody who Torrents it at that kinda price doesn't deserve to be called a human being. I'm 26, living alone, broke, unemployed and can STILL afford Mountain Lion like it's nothing. £14 is insanely cheap for a complete Operating System when you consider a brand new videogame is usually £40.

I'd seriously like to see M$ compete with this...

On a side note: 1:30pm can't come quick enough!

Plus they'll be ready for it this time. They know the servers are gonna take a big hit and I'm pretty sure they can more than handle it. This is not a first for them anymore.

This might be a bit off topic, but all those who says it's wrong to say it ships since it's distributed over the internet - do they get as upset when people say they're surfing the web?

I mean, it's a mean of transport on water being used as a synonym for internet traffic...

It's dangerous to surf near ships. ;) You'd think Apple would be more considerate of people's safety.

There's some premium price on apple hardware that more than makes up for the cheap OS price :D Nothing's ever cheap!

Don't know if anyone can help, but my macbook air is October 2010 model. I already upgraded to Lion.
The hard drive has a capacity of 125GB, and the HD Macintosh, get info is showing 95GB used.
I have about 10GB of music, a few GB of pictures, and no films, so I cannot see how I am using 95GB.

I have had my mac for over a year - and still haven't got to grips with it! Where can I see exactly see how all this used capacity has gone?

Has it stored my snow leopard in a partition - am I able to delete this, if this is the case?

Thanks

This is very good. It'd be hassle to install Lion first and then Mountain Lion. Straight from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion is what many will be doing.

I wanted to go to Lion, but Apple STILL haven't fixed the VNC server when connecting from standard VNC clients on windows!
Cannot believe it after all this time.

We'll see if it's fixed out of the box with Mountain Lion, I suppose.

Here is what I do.

Bring up Finder.
Put a space in the search bar in the top right hand corner.
Then a plus sign will apear beneath it.
Click the plus and choose :- File Size - Greater than - 50 - MB
Make sure the search is for "This Mac" (just above where you just altered the settings)
This will then show you any large files you have on your machine. By clicking once on a result, the bottom of the finder window will display their exact location.

Delete any unwanted files.

DaisyDisk is a nice tool to find what stuff uses up the most space on you drive. :)

Assuming you have an iOS device, iTunes stores backups each time you connect a device and multiples of the same. Go into the preferences and delete them except the most recent.

Should still be a little while until its live, here are my suggestions for passing the time.

1. go grab a coffee
2. take a walk in the fresh air
3. annoy the wife/girlfriend
4. play some video games
5. annoy wife/girlfriend some more
6. eat some food
7. Download Mountain Lion
