This might be a bit off topic, but all those who says it's wrong to say it ships since it's distributed over the internet - do they get as upset when people say they're surfing the web?

I mean, it's a mean of transport on water being used as a synonym for internet traffic...

What web? Oh, you mean accessing hypertext documents using application capable of presenting html file contents to the user in a way that enables the user to initiate a new document access by selecting a specially marked string of characters acting as a link? I do that all the time. But I never "surf the web", what ever that is.

I'm still on a late 2009 regular MacBook, would there be any noticeable decrease in performance upgrading to Mountain Lion? I skipped Lion due to a few changes I didn't like the sound of, but now I'm tempted.

I know ML isn't released yet, but some here might know the answers to these questions :)

1) Can we go back to full colour for the Finder sidebar icons? Lion looks a bit drab compared to Snow Lion.
2) Can we change the system fonts to make everything look bigger? (important to me) The new 27" Apple display is lovely, but very hard to read sometimes.

Thanks! :)

You can get third party apps to change the system fonts, but I dont know if it will be available natively.

Third question should be performance, just MidianGTX has enquired. I use a 2009 13" MBP and we'll see later on how we get on.

Thanks gabicava83. I have seen some 3rd party stuff and used various tricks (like setting minimum font size in Safari) but it's never "just" right. Really needs something baked into the OS for it to be done properly.

Occasionally, I use my old Mac Mini which has Snow Leopard – and it always looks so much better with colour icons in Finder, and is a LOT easier to quickly navigate. I was just hoping …. :)

I can’t see ML being the performance improvement over Lion, that SL was to Leopard. I think Apple would have been shouting about it if so (as they did for SL).

On my main system (Mac Pro), Lion was definitely slower at doing certain things than Snow Leopard…

Mountain Lion will be £13.99

So it will be approx. 20 USD, 14 GBP and 16 EUR? Pretty affordable upgrade. Smart from Apple, I think. And I really like that upgrades are now available via App Store, makes it so easy to do. And sometime in the future when my mac is no longer supported for OS X upgrade, I'll have a lovely excuse to get a brand new mac and hand this one over to some relative, who'll be very happy using it for couple more years.

Thank you so much to the MacRumors people for writing the news correctly. I saw a few stories elsewhere that said Mountain Lion would *ship* Wednesday. There will be no "shipping" of this product aside from the vast minority of purchases made for more money at Apple Retail Stores on a USB flash drive. It will release, go on sale, unveil, whatever. Kudos.

Wish it was ready now so I could download before going to bed, but it can wait a few hours. The previous upgrades have gone off without a hitch, so *knock on wood* I'm excited to see what all 10.8 has.

I could be wrong, but I’m sure somewhere I read that Apple will NOT be supplying ML on USB stick because the take-up of the Lion USB stick was so underwhelming.

Thats probably because:
1, No one really knew there was such a thing (it was very poorly advertised)
2, No shops really carried them (outside of Apple stores)
3, They were over priced.

I would of bought one if I knew there was such a thing, but i had already bought it online and didn't see any discounted option for people who already had Lion...

Just my 2c

1) Completely agree
2) Completely absolutely agree
3) Completely absolutely totally agree

I think that Apple REALLY didn't want to offer, but so many users were unhappy with the shift to download only for Lion.

I purchased a Lion USB stick from an Apple Store. It came (I kid you not), in a brown jiffy bag. No Apple packaging, it wasn't in front of Store and it was very expensive. AND I still couldn't use it on my laptop that came with Lion preinstalled. As I said, I really don't think that Apple want to offer USB sticks at all.

Latest version of Paragon NTFS (9..5.3) wont work on ML so uninstall it before upgrading to ML... If not you should uninstall it from terminal.

Paragon says a compatible version of NTFS is in development but it'll be a paid upgrade (with ~50% discount).

Is it true you can go to Mountain Lion from Snow Lepord, or is Lion Needed?

Rumour says it's possible, but probably unsupported option. And may require to use USB stick upgrade. Or not. I'm sure we're going to find out this soon. I'm hoping it'll be possible to do at least without intermediate upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion.

Lion is not needed.

Apple said:
If you are running Lion (10.7.x), you’re ready to update to Mountain Lion. Go to Step 3. If you are running Snow Leopard (10.6.x), update to the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard before you purchase OS X Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store. Click the Apple icon and choose Software Update to install Snow Leopard v10.6.8, the latest version.

Source.

I still maintain that Disk Utility should have a Tab so you can build a boot DVD or USB without having to download it again or in the first place if you buy a Mac with Lion or ML pre-installed... guess that would be too logical for Apple.

Yes I know most will never use it or need to with the boot partition found on all new Mac's.

Right now i don't understand Apple.... They could release ML many times if they just released it when each time zone woke up... Or if it was midnight release... Another companies have completed many midnight releases. So could Apple!

Just too bad if it comes at 16.00 here in Denmark -.-'
