The most important news of all: John Siracusa managed to get his big ML review done in time for tomorrows release. :)

yeh my approach is wait for the .1 release from Apple but get Siracusa's review immediately. It usually improves my outlook on the release when I am less surprised by what I eventually run into after I install the thing.

I hope someone else can confirm / deny this.

In my experience, you have always been able to dismiss the registration request in an OSX install. Sometimes you have to hit command+Q to skip it.

Maybe. If someone checks on that, try to download apps on the app store then. That is probably where it would catch you if you were able to skip. I mean, when I bought Windows 7 Ultimate, I didn't care about the DVD. I can download Windows from Microsoft for free. Installing, I need the key though and I have a certain time allowed to activate it. If Apple doesn't do that, they basically invite you to "steal" it.

Has it been suggested that they release it at midnight local time around the world thereby staggering the demands on the servers? Seems logical.

I can't update to Lion/Mountain Lion because Apple dropped Rosetta for unknown reasons. Can anyone suggest a valid replacement for ImageReady CS2?

I tried Photoshop CS5 but the "Web Export" interface is a joke, like it's been added as an afterthought, IMHO it's counter-productive.

I know production companies still using Leopard / Snow Leopard for software needs. As long as your file integrity is not at risk, and your OS can handle your computation requirements, there's no need to upgrade.

If they release it at midnight to the 25 then we here in Europe can have it in about 3 min.... Not sure if thats right but could be awesome to upgrade my Mac before i go to sleep ! :D

I can imagine a LOT of angry Apple enthusiasts if they can't download when others around the world can. It's bad enough that users in some countries wait months for hardware. Flipping the switch everywhere all at once seems good to me (especially since I just learned that the download is likely to come from local servers that Apple pays to use, not their own central servers).

Why would you need an install disk? Any of your Macs using your Apple ID can download and install from the App Store.

Yeah but it you have a modest internet connection. It would be tons faster using an install disk.

6 pages so sorry if its been spoke about already, but I'd love to see an iWork update tomorrow. When the 'latest' version was released we had never heard of a retina display, the iPad was non-existent to the consumer and iOS never had home screen wallpapers! I think its about time for an upgrade.

I think we'll an update for iWork today or tomorrow.

May i say something... If Apple is releasing it at day in America then its nearly midnight its 20.00 in Europe... Not gonna work! But some is gonna be crazy!

Last year, Lion showed up in the App Store around 8:30AM Eastern Time.

As for demand on "the servers", they're probably partnering with content delivery networks (like Akamai), so not everyone is downloading from just Apple's servers.

That would be swell. There are features I'd love to see in an update. If it's not tomorrow, I expect it to be relatively soon.*

*based on no information whatsoever other than my own preference.

Why does everyone want to download ML as soon as it's available. Hasn't anyone learned that the servers are going to bog down or crash and people will discover untold numbers of bugs the first few weeks?

I downloaded Lion on three different computers on day 0 last year with no slowdown. I'm not sure there were "untold numbers" of bugs, either. I didn't experience any.

I've been living under a rock so forgive me if this has been discussed repeatedly, but how is the stability of this one looking from all of those who have tested it? I will be skipping from Snow Leopard straight to this and am looking forward to it, but am a bit nervous.

People torrent movies that are worth around the same, and you're getting much more utility out of ML compared to a movie, so it's a pretty good deal IMO :p

good point but when my torrent movie doesn't look good or is choppy etc, i shrug it off and move on i need my OS to work properly so i just spend the $20 and avoid headaches

I remember thinking how cool pages was going to be after a year or so. How it would finally break me from having to work with Word--things like transferring the new DOCX standard even before Office really made me excited for good things.
By now it's so stale that MSWord easily wins. I think the last keynote update was new transitions. Whoopee, something to make a 5th grade math presentation seem cool.

When I was a widdle boy folks said, 'Swell!'

When I got bigger folks said, 'Cool!'

When I was a fully grown guy the younger folks said, 'Groovy!'

Now the hip crowd says, 'Sweet!'

Wonder what the next 'in' expression will be? There will be one..there's always one.
