I was part of the beta tester groups, so I have beta's, and the public beta, in the U.S.A, and still error in app store for new Yosemite.

Distinguishing between full installer apps and updates

… When I look at purchases in the App store it shows my last "Yosemite" purchase was PB4. Any ideas why 5 & 6 don't show?

This was discussed a few days ago.

To the best of my knowledge, neither Public Beta 5 nor Public Beta 6 had a full installer. Each one was a delta update; such updates do not appear on the Purchases page of App Store.

… running Beta 6. Does this mean I should download Beta 4 from my Purchases in order to get the full public version of Yosemite?

If you previously had Public Beta 4 amongst your list of purchases: no. Quit then relaunch App Store. If the listing for 'OS X Yosemite' does not appear in the list, be patient; try again later.

If you did not previously have the full installer app for Public Beta 4: don't waste time and bandwidth downloading something that is not release quality. Await availability of the release.

Not everyone in an area will observe availability at the same time. Please be patient.

The "terrible" part of this IF it's actually releasing at 4, then I'll be in class. "Terrible" in quotes because /sarc.

Probably not, but I strongly recommend an update to OS X 10.9.5 – and a verifiably good backup of that version – before installing Yosemite.

What could go wrong? Restoring with my Time Machine backup would be fine right? Usually I would update but It'll take about an hour to do that and a backup could take a whole night or not even work and it would take days to fix it... Right now I have everything set and a proper backup...

(Right before I made a partition and installed the PB1 in begin August my storage totally flipped. So I had to do a clean install. Time Machine didn't work so I had to spend a lot of time to fix it. Finally I had a proper backup and did a clean install and put the backup back. Worked perfectly. Then I made a partition, installed PB1 and I've been there ever since. And I bought a 32GB USB to backup my Yosemite partition to be as safe as possible. So after all that trouble, all I want now is just to go back to Yosemite and leave Mavericks behind me.)

If you have an SSD and at least 4gb of ram, you'll be fine

I have 8GB of Ram but no SSD. Maybe this would be a good excuse to finally pick one up.

I still have my 2007 MBP going strong, a SSD made a world of a difference. Also a nice 3rd party battery, not the 30$ crab on amazon, has kept the beast going. It is amazing how much slower a 5400 rpm HDD is

Thanks. SSD sounds like a good investment.

My advice is if you do not own a Mac with a retina display then hold off on Yosemite. I put it on my old MacBook Pro from 2010 and this the UI changes just don't look good on these older displays.

That's one of those things I think I'd have to see for myself. Not getting a retina MBP anytime in the next couple years so I'll just have to live with it I guess.

My 09 MBP runs the public beta just fine. 8Gb of ram and a 500gb HDD.

Thanks. That's pretty much my current setup. Glad to know it works fine.

Ok, thanks for posting this info. This answers the confusion I had. I will not re-download PB4. I will wait for the update when it is finally pushed out. I know you weren't replying to me, but thanks for the info!

Must be soon

I get

"The item you've requested is not currently available in the German Store, but it is available in the UK Store. Click Change Store to view this item."

As I think about it, I recall Apple "flipping the switch" on a past OSX update sometime around their COB (5 p.m. pacific/8 p.m. eastern). I can't recall if this was last year's Maverick's or 2012's Mountain Lion. So as we sit here and mash our trackpads like nerds, perhaps Apple will flip the switch on their way out the door for the day.

Sadly, I get "The item you've requested is not currently available in the UK Store"

Interesting. Not available on the UK store here, so I think you'll just run into the same if you accept the offer to change store.

Still nada as well. Thought of the trick with Mavericks the poster above mentioned. It actually did work last year to get Mavericks from Mountain Lion.

I'm on the third GM candidate and it is very stable, I'm really quite pleased. Probably one of the best initial releases ever. Those in an enterprise environment best holding off though.

Have way more issues on 10.10 than I did with 10.9. Still love the OS though
