My first impressions -

I've had no problems at all with Yosemite so far. Everything seems to work as good if not better than on Mavericks. The really only nit pick I have is I don't like the way the Favorites Bar in Safari centers your links. I keep going to the wrong place to click on a link. But I'll get used to that I am sure. Things I really do like - iCloud Drive in Finder and the improved Notification Center. Plus I also like the new fonts. I am still trying to get used to the more washed out look on buttons and icons. But once again that is something you just have to get used to. IMO none of the buttons and icons have really looked that great since Snow Leopard. Overall a great upgrade, especially considering it's free. Looking forward to getting IOS8, so that iCloud Drive is really useful plus the new Photos app. Right now I have all my photos stored on Dropbox (I am a former Loom user), but hope to move them all to iCloud Photos.

I have access to both this Public beta and the developer Beta, which one should I use ? I'm assung dev beta as it will be updated more often...

What do you think ?

How Apple went from getting more and more elegant and refined with their UI design, to more bland, cluttered, illegible... first iOS, now OSX?

wtf is going on over there, and is there any way of stopping it?

Step 1 - Fire Scott Forstall
Step 2 - Make iOS look Amazing
Step 3 - Copy iOS UI
Step 4 - Paste in OS X

Now OS X looks beautiful.

Is TRIM (for non Apple SSDs) finally a standard feature/setting in Yosemite?
(or did you have to install some 3rd party app).

According to this article TRIM should NEVER BE ENABLED - as it can cause system boot failures - http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/apples-yosemite-beta-dont-use-trim-with-ssd Additionally all MacBook Air's have TRIM enabled by default.

If you want to enable it at your own risk- follow below:-

1. Remove your current Trim Enabler and “org.Cindori.AuthHelper” in /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools, and redownload the app
2. Add this boot argument to remove the kext block (run in Terminal):
sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"
3. Reboot
4. Enable trim using Trim Enabler
Wait ~1 min
5. Rebuild kext cache manually using this command in terminal (wait for it to finish):
sudo kextcache -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions
6. Reboot again

federighi instead to take acting classes should work to make a true new OS instead to bloating around and slowing a perfect OS that he received when he joined apple, yes snow leopard. this time he have the new ive's eyes killer UI in his favor but still the old same ****.
I'm sure he would have been fired long time ago if steve jobs was still alive.

I don't think so. It took Jobs being gone for Forstall to be booted. And that's the time iOS was free to become amazing. Then the flow on effect to OS X was inevitable.

Yes, Developer versions are updated more frequently as they develop the software for the public before release. Beta releases get updates, just not as often.

My first impression was good, it looks nice but I wish dark mode actually made the whole interface black. Not just the menu bar and dock.

Yep, its better than nothing... Doesn't look that bad does it...

I mean you wouldn't be able to even 'see' the desktop let alone the icons.

I'm just wondering how much more iOS stuff Apple crammed into this thing.

I don't really care for the design. I've used it about 7 hours today and I find the Safari UI transparancy distracting.

Also, some choices are just counterproductive. Some drop down menu fonts are too light and certain text is hard to read.

Also, I don't really care for the transparancy, but it's growing on me.

I also have issues with Safari when I have the Favorites bar always showing. Sometimes the tab bar replaces it and when I enter the Tab switcher page and open a second tab, the widow stays the same size so when I close one tab the window shrinks. This happened several times and my Safari window kept shrinking.

Are you using the latest beta build? Because I have it right in front of me now and I don't see any more transparency. The drop down menu fonts are very clear, too. And my Safari has no Fav tab showing...

I'm happy that Apple decided to do a public beta. With the release date looking like late October they have two solid months to get rid of the kinks.

Will my computer run more efficiently and faster?
Never mind that....check out the "new look".

Sigh...sometimes I miss 10.6.8.

With Snow Leopard, Apple said out of the gate that SL was all about working off bugs and making the OS run better. With SL there were no new features, no new "look", and (thankfully) no social media emphasis. Everything was about speed and efficiency. SL was by far, my favorite version of OS X to date.

Why? Yosemite is already quick and running smoothly. I average more free RAM than with Mavericks, too.

Go to "View" and add the favorite bar back.

I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing a ".... Yosemite is the most popular OS by 50% of people in the U.S"

That USB installer didn't take long to come out.

I gotta get to the *new* app (Apple calls in a window which expands, but i don't care)

To me, its till an app just for searching via spotlight, which expands to a window.

Which this gives you a vast amount of info, i would say its not needed.... This is the idea of "putting all your eggs in one basket",, It;'s just too much chocolate... I'll get sick...

Its too much "in your face"

While you can move it around, that's not really the point, its still an app per say. While 10.9 Spotlight, not as much info, and less cluttered..

Im sick of Apple treating Apple users as monkeys and simpletons (despite some users being this). Apple hide way too much information in their OS's, so its great they give users more information to make better decisions instead of performing multiple tasks individually. Im from a Windows background, and almost nothing is restricted in Administrator on Windows - more choices is always better - not treating the minority like children.

Especially their stupid "unknown error" and no option to see more specific error details and information. Its this withholding of information which is stupid.

Yosemite is awesome, posting from it right now. It is quite stable and fast too for being a beta. I think it will become much more better in the final release.
I did a fast Cinebench OpenGL test and seems to be faster thanks Mavericks at least with Iris.

"...Some remaining bugs include poor management of dual iTunes accounts."

So what's actually happening with the dual accounts issue - I have both a CDN and US account - am I going to be able to use both accounts on 1 computer using the same library i.e. only1library?

I use the accounts for book purchases. I can use both on my iPad but can no longer sync my iPad because of the 1 account issue on my computer.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'had it fully upgraded online through apple' - does this mean you have already upgraded from SL to something else or are you still running SL?

)

i upgraded the HD to a SSD and maxed the ram to 8 GB. which isnt really much now a days but a few years ago my computer was flyin with speed. Im kinda worried about missing the way i do things but i very much want to use Continuity!!! i use notes ALL the time on my phone and computer, having them combined, would simply be amazing.

the rest of your post was also very helpful thank you.

It's really get's to me to, i like to do allot of custom stuff and dig deep to delete hidden folders to "protect" the user, when what it really does is "clamp it down" so experienced users can't delete stuff they know that's not gonna muck up the OS..

Apple doesn't see it that way, while giving us users access to the Terminal..

True, Windows is far better which custom stuff, while Apple users if you really wanna do stuff, your on ya own since Apple support doesn't help users with UNIX stuff in Terminal..(or head online for hours for answers). That's the thing that annoys me. Which then says to developers, "we must bring out all these apps you must install just to give you all that functionality as Windows users.." that Apple left out.

On the upshot. it's for security, which for the experienced, doesn't mean anything, since they know what they do.
