A reason why I would love to have a 512gb HDD to facilitate a VM copy of Yosemite, and see how it runs. As my OS X device is primarily a tool to run software, there isn't the rush to jump in pre "1.0"

A VM wont help you anyway as the GPU performance in VMware is like freshly warm poop. Just grab an external disk, or make a partition you can do a safe install on.

i'm getting an error when downloading the Beta. Gonna try the usual fixes (quitting the MAS, waiting..., restarting) and report back.
anyone else getting errors?

Edit: Was downloading smoothly, but then it decided to poop out on me after I quit the MAS... Oh well, i can wait a bit longer, its not like i'm in a huge rush to see an Install screen!

This is the part I'm worry about Apple releasing Yosemite as public beta when so many people will jump on it... Wonder how many people will read this before flipping the switch

Enabling iCloud Drive
After you install the OS X Yosemite Beta, you will be asked whether you wish to upgrade your account to iCloud Drive. If you choose to upgrade your account, iCloud Documents and Data will be disabled on devices that are not running OS X Yosemite or iOS 8. iCloud Drive will be available only on other Macs using the OS X Yosemite Beta and iOS devices running iOS 8. If you want to continue using iCloud Documents and Data on devices with earlier versions of OS X and iOS, you should not upgrade your account to iCloud Drive.

Next complaint is... Yosemite sucks, I can't get to my iCloud documents from iOS7 / OS X 10.9

Is it Risky to download this if I only have one mac to try it out on?

Sam
I mean within reason kinda.. you gotta expect the worst could happen. However, that being said.. I would think its stable enough where you shouldn't have any major problems. Expect some bugs and other annoyances though. Also, backup anything super important (just in case).

Signed up on Day 1. Did not receive e-mail, logged in and accepted the TOS, received my code, and now downloading OS. Now if only they would release iOS 8 beta to the public...

In regard to using this beta on my secondary mac. It's a macmini which I literally only use as a hifi (spotify and itunes) and to watch netflix/hulu/sky go etc. I also have loads of videos on it.

What are the chances that any of these videos will be wiped?

Yes, I'm surprised they didn't disable iCloud Drive altogether. Hopefully there's a huge warning when you enable it.

Low, but it's a beta so don't install it on anything for which you don't care if you lose data, or you have a backup.

Really curious if this will actually be updatable to beta 2, beta 3, etc and finally the GM.

Bad Code, Bad!

I too am getting the dreaded "This code has already been redeemed" error message. I wonder if these codes will ever start working, or if Apple will need to cut new ones.

Almost zero unless you do something stupid... When your finished playing with Yosemite just drag its System folder, users, apps, and library to the trash.

So basically if you don't have iOS8, which I'm guessing many people don't, it's wise to NOT enable iCloud Drive?

Just for clarification .

I'm having trouble with the download failing, but it's probably tens of thousands of people like me trying to download it at the same time. If you guys see that the code has already been redeemed, then go to the purchases tab in the Mac App Store and click download to try again. I'd probably wait a while.

I didn't receive a code either but just resigned up and it's downloading now... super fast I might add! Just finished in less than 10 minutes!
