Actually, I can program in Java and I'm taking a networking class. I'm not ill-informed at all.

By the way, before writing anything here, I tested YouTube in Chrome and Firefox and was able to successfully watch a YouTube video without any issues. By the way, Chrome uses the same web engine (Webkit) as Safari. So, by deduction, it's Safari that's having an issue, not YouTube.

Chrome doesn't use WebKit.

"Don't be evil"

What happened to that famous "Don't be evil" mantra of Google's?
This is the sort of **** M$ used to get up to with IE by breaking other browsers.

And Google is praised for their anticompetitive behavior. People act like this is new, but it isn't.

I thought it was just me. I think it is a YouTube issue. I was watching YouTube videos last night and it worked fine, then I woke up this morning and it doesn't even load. I've tried websites I usually visit, in case it was a flash issue, I checked NHL.com and Twitch and it works on Safari, I tried the Facebook video player and it works, I even tried numerous porn sites and they worked. And then there's YouTube. For now, I'm fine using Chrome just to view YouTube videos. Hopefully Google fixes this issue.

This is starting to piss me off. Maybe one in ten videos works.

Right click on one of the videos that DOESN’T work and you’ll find it is HTML5 encoded. Right click on a video that DOES work and you’ll find it is Flash Player encoded. Simple as that. There’s something about the HTML5 stream from YouTube that Safari 8 is choking on.

Why be pissed off about something you can’t control or do anything about? Is watching YouTube videos that important? Really?

Well what do you know, somebody with a logical way of thinking. Thank you. Let’s see, Safari is working just fine on ALL other websites except YouTube yet the ranters are claiming it’s Apple’s fault.

In addition to your logical explanation I would like to add that I have visited several websites that features HTML5 video and they are also working okay with Safari. So HTML5 and Flash work on every other site EXCEPT YouTube.

I wonder whose fault it is? Hmmmm...

"Hi all - our engineers have been aware of this issue and are preparing a fix now. Thanks for your patience."

Sourced from the Google Youtube support forum.

But we've already established that it was Apple's fault... why is Google trying to cover for them?

Have had this happen on/off for months on pcs and macs, where a video will play for 5-10 secs and then error.

Google has a mix of hints blaming the computer, bandwidth, outdated browser, outdated flash, ...

Of course it could never be google when my internet connection is wide open and other video sites play fine.

Oh anf they want me to use chrome and low and behold, use chrome, still get video errors.

Driving..... Me.... Crazy... i never realized how much youtube has proliferated the internets until today.

----------

my work around so far has been keeping my iPad near by and taking advantage of that handy hand off feature. Come to a webpage or youtube video i can't play. swipe up on my iPad, it opens the page and i watch the video lol.

iTunes issues?

The latest update to OS X Yosemite, 10.10.1, appears to be causing some users to be unable to play YouTube videos in Safari. According to threads on the Apple Support forums and Google's Product forums, some users that attempt to play YouTube videos are seeing only black screens with audio clipping or are experiencing problems loading videos.

Other users are able to play videos, but are seeing a brief error message before a video begins to play, and still other users are getting complete browser crashes when attempting to watch a video. For some users, the problems just started a few hours ago, suggesting the issue may be on YouTube's end.

MacRumors has confirmed the problem and has also had some trouble loading certain YouTube videos in Safari. Users on the support forums have tried various methods to fix the issue, including resetting PRAM, clearing cookies and caches, but nothing appears to work to fix the problem. One user discovered a temporary fix, going to Develop --> User Agent --> and checking Google Chrome - Mac, but the fix resets when the browser is closed.

YouTube videos appear to be playing fine in both Chrome and Firefox, so a workaround until a fix is available is to watch videos in an alternate browser.

Released to the public on Monday after two weeks of testing, OS X 10.10.1 bundled in reliability improvements to Wi-Fi, Microsoft Exchange, Mail, and Back to My Mac. Apple has already seeded a second Yosemite update, 10.10.2, to developers, but that beta has its own issues, including problems with Chrome, and user reports suggest the Safari error is present on 10.10.2 as well.

Update: Users on OS X 10.10.0 are also reporting the issue, suggesting it is indeed a YouTube problem.

forget Youtube! Ever since I upgraded to Yosemite and iTunes 12, iTunes won't let me play or download HD movies. Saying my MBPr Late 2013 is not equipped to play HD movies with my external display. Works fine on the internal.

Worked fine until i did all the updates. And the bugs just continue at Apple! At this rate, I'll go to Windows 11 on a Surface.

Computing 101,

Never upgrade to a new system until X.0.3 releases and the way apple is heading the last few years, better to wait until X.0.5 before upgrading!

I don't think it has anything to do with that. I just tried Youtube on my wife mac and its works fine where it was not working earlier. FYI I didn't not run the Flash delete process as mentioned.

This is another reason why I don't even let YouTube's Flash or HTML 5 player run. It's too annoying to deal with when it has problems. I use Click2Flash and load the MP4 directly. It has no ads and seems to load more quickly (especially because the YouTube player barely loads when it's paused).

Not in my case. I tried rebooting my rMBP multiples times with Youtube still not working...until I tried this.

This is news...??

I always seem to get this in Mavericks, and its old..... Naturally, its on YouTube's end, and its not Yosemite realtes by any means...

Any browser can get this error, even in Firefox.
