Yosemite is strange so far in the wide array of experiences, especially considering Apple has so few hardware configurations to target. On my mid-2011 MacBook Pro, it has been perfect - by far the best OS X .0 release ever. Fast and sold. On a 2013 iMac at work, is has had the slow login issues that have been reported. I watched it get rebooted five times and it did something different each time. I guess that is why you don't install .0 releases on a work machine.

Interesting Morky. My late 2011 runs like a new mac on Yosemite. Had a lot more issues with Mavericks. I'm extremely happy with Yosemite!

Agree. Experience with Yosemite seems to differs from model to model much more than other OS X release I have tried before. I like the design and features in Yosemite. Hopefully the future updates on Yosemite can solve these bugs and inconsistency.

Youtube is fixed but I'm still getting screen tearing/corruption on Safari in Yosemite.

Of course Apple tests updates

Can it test for all scenarios? no.

Is their testing perfect for the scenarios they do test against? far from it in recent experience.

However this is no different from any other OS out there.

Apple has more money than G_d plus relatively few models and configurations. They can set up all configs and have people test them all-it's something they should have been doing all along

First glance is that it looks like Youtube tried to update their player controls and something went horribly wrong...

----------

That happens to me with the new versions of Firefox a lot. Well, more than usual. I don't know if it's a plugin issue, or what. Sometime when I reload the page, it comes up, and sometimes I have to close the tab and reopen. I'm thinking this issue is more Firefox than anything else.

But if you don't use Firefox, well, then...

Tangent: Is Safari that much better than it used to be?

It's worse. The new design is terrible, it hangs on many websites and you can't just delete history now, you have to delete all website data at the same time.

I tooo experienced the same problem and it kept on making the safari browser crash. But as of today its working smoothly.

They can do that with base Macs, but all peripheral hardware/software combinations including non Apple?? No. There are way too many for that, and the time required would be ridiculous.

I don't know why the apple apologist here say this is a YouTube problem. My linux desktop works fine my iPads work fine only my imac running Yosemite is having this issue. The latest download of Yosemite not only did not fix problems for many it created new ones. I am not an expert just a new apple user that has been having a poor experience with ios8 and Yosemite.

The fact that it occurred on one day on one particular site for many people, and without any software update on their Macs mysteriously disappeared the following day???

Yosemite isn't perfect, far from it. However this was a google issue. Youtube wasn't playing nice with safari.

Firewire audio

Hi guys! Hope this help somehow

I run my audio through a Focusrite Saffire 26 i/o (fire wire). Running on Logic 9 my audio goes fine, even changing the sample rate. I can use youtube on firefox or chrome without any issues (even checking the sound, changing the system sounds on sound effects tab, under sound on system pref).

When I open youtube on safari, looks like the sound card get lost, system wide sound goes bad. On safari, youtube play sounds making noises somehow similar to Logic Pro when its buffer size get wrongly configured.

Hope it add something for you folks.

Cheers

Congratulations, you're not a developer

I had that happen for the first time today when I tried playing the new Cortana video on the Macrumors home page.

I've been using Chrome for when things just don't work right in Safari, and in Chrome they do just seem to work right. Been using it more and more.

EDIT: Somewhat related, I practically took on a part-time job after Yosemite came out with a bug I discovered in screensharing. As a non developer I still took it upon myself to submit it to bugreport.apple.com. I have in total uploaded 15 attachments and tens of updates. I've taken videos showing the bugs to them. I have had to harass them and call developer support who told me to create a new bug report to tell them to respond to the other bug report that they hadn't responded to. Finally today they told me they could reproduce the bug, and I felt a little bit of relief that I'm not crazy. I didn't even get a thank you. AppleCare had me do a clean install of Yosemite twice. I spent tens of hours on helping Apple to fix something that they broke in Yosemite.

You don't need flash to play YouTube videos, switch to the HTML5 player.

I stopped using Youtube on my mac because it requires Flash, unless I switch to make youtube think I am on a iPad. Google/Youtube is still in the 80 with that flash crap. if you switch in the dev menu to the iPad client, you force youtube t send you the videos differently and then it works for me. I don't even have flash installed on my computer any more.

But until youboob/goggles eliminates the flush requirement, I am avoiding them altogether (sorry about the misspellings - well not really. :D)

Not test all peripherals but they should have various configs of the Mini, Macbook, iMac, Mac Pro, etc and all should work using general apps such as safari, Pages, etc without a hiccup before releasing the OS
If Youtube isn't playing nice with Safari (along with some other websites I use) is that an Apple issue? I think it is. If Safari isn't playing nice then Apple should find the reason for it and make it more compatible.

You obviously don't understand how websites work.

Your linux desktop doesn't use Safari. Whichever browser you do use on linux (Firefox, I'm guessing) will interact with the Youtube website differently than the Safari browser on the Mac because they use differing technologies to display that website.

The fact that it works on your linux machine only proves that Google didn't break the website for Linux users.

Even Safari on the iPad (if that is the browser you're using on the iPad) behaves differently than Safari on the Mac.

And anyway, it's already been proven conclusively this was an issue caused by and fixed by Google/Youtube.

Skype & Yahoo

Other than Video problems,
Skype quit working for me and so did Yahoo messenger.

Such a disappointment that it got disabled in this Yosemite upgrade.

I used to Skype with my mom a lot until the update. Now it can't connect.
It's not Skype. It's Mac OS.

Until Safari gets tab icons and backspace functions as a page back key, then it will remain broken. I'd rather use internet explorer.

What are you on about? IE isn't even available on OS X anymore!

what the heck is happening at apple?

How is this Apple's fault? They didn't changed anything, Google did!

Reading through all the comments (yes, I did, I just had that much time today), one would assume Yosemite, Safari and generally Apple are the worst thing ever happened in the world, while actually it's the Google who made the mess. When it's fixed by Apple, everyone praise Google. When it's broken by Google, everyone blame Apple.

Well, nothing changes, though, this has been happening A LOT lately. To the point, I have never had any issues with Youtube or Yosemite, it's been the best OS so far for me. Way ahead from Windows.

From all your previous posts you are officially an Apple hater. I don't believe one bit that you own a Mac. I think you just claim you do so you can troll people on this website. It's clear that you were completely wrong in this situation along with your other posts. You fail completely. Enjoy!

My first Mac was an LC III running Mac OS 7. I still have it. It still works.

So you're wrong. My current Mac is a late model non-cylindrical Mac Pro 2.93 GHz XEON with an SSD and 3 HDs spanning a little over 3TBs of space or so. With the Radeon HD 5770 graphics, this Mac was used in Hollywood for movie production. The movie edits were deleted of course before I bought it, but that's why it has Final Cut Pro on it, which btw is another Yosemite bug.

Final Cut Pro is disabled with Yosemite and there's no way to update it.

----------

In this particular case, it was Youtube. It was working one day and not the next. It works again now.

I'm still having FLASH issues though with Yosemite. In this case it appears to be HTML 5 issues.

I fail to see how anyone can definitely say this is all Youtube's fault.

Apple has been rolling out Yosemite betas faster than Golden Coral's All You can Eat! LOL

Why are you so bent on blaming Apple for this? It is absolutely NOT Apple's fault, as has been stated countless times in this thread. Nothing they did caused it to stop working, and a YouTube engineer even posted this in the YouTube support forum: "Hi all - our engineers have been aware of this issue and are preparing a fix now. Thanks for your patience."

It was an issue on their end, not Apple's end.

You'll never hear me say Yosemite is worse than Windows.

But some of the reported issues with Yosemite are Microsoft-like.
It was clearly not ready for prime time except on certain Macs, apparently mainly the currently shipping ones and I criticize Apple because of how they treat the Pro market mainly.

I don't have an iMac or Macbook. Those are the machines that seem to have few problems. It aggravates me that I have a much more powerful and expensive Mac Pro and none of my issues have been addressed. It's like Mac Pro users don't exist unless you bought the one currently shipping.

A Mac Pro is not exactly a quickly disposed of machine like Windows machines.

And another issue that is driving me nuts...

The iPhone Bluetooth of Death bug.

Why Apple should I have to reboot my Mac just from plugging in an iPhone?
