Hi all,
~long time reader, first time poster~

I'm starting this topic regarding to certain issues that emerged following the process of claiming a free copy of Lion with eligible purchases.

You basically have two option. Either to claim with the short form:

http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/

or the long from:

https://uptodate.apple.com/us/uptodate/macosx/

The short is having trouble recognizing purchase (serials if you want) made after June 20. Therefore, some serials are not recognized because (this is maybe only my speculation, but i guess a "genius" misunderstood some rules...

Now, has any of you tried to contact Apple customer support after having bad serials that should be valid or received a response back from the long forum....?

...ugh

P.S. These are the hardware that qualifies

Any one know what would happen if I already purchased Lion on App Store and later I apply the UP-to-Date code?

Nothing. It will say it's already installed.

Call Apple if you bought it by mistake but were entitled to a free copy. They'll most likely give you a $30 gift card.

Tried using the short form around 9:00 this morning and was told my serial was invalid. Called Apple Care and they told me it was a known issue and that I should try again in a couple hours or later today. Just tried again a couple minutes ago and it still says it's invalid and the long form is not working at all.

sry, didnt see your post...
UPDATE: I Just Called Apple Support

Ok, i just called.
The reason it doesn't properly recognize the serial is because their servers are full. This is a know issues and they recomand waiting an hour or two...

Grrr....

Got the same message from them this morning (post above) and an hour or two later it's still not working.

I just tried and got "There has been an error with the system. The administrators have been informed, please try again later."

Those of you with issues, try using the "other" up-to-date form. I bought my MBP on July 3rd, but going through the before July 21st form kept on saying invalid serial number. On a whim, I tried the after July 21st form and it worked perfectly.

I purchased iMac in Croatia in Premium Reseller Store.

It would be there:

https://uptodate.apple.com/hr/uptodate/macosx/

but....

Došlo je do pogreške u sustavu. Obavijestili smo administratore, a vas molimo da pokušate kasnije.

Wich mean:

There was an error in the system. We have notified the Administrator, and please try later.

So, give it a try in a few hours

It's finally working for me! Just got my redeem code and off to start the long process of waiting for Lion to download.

Still says my serial is invalid. I'm now looking for the "Chat with an Apple Representative" link on the Apple Store so that I can chat online with someone. No dice. Link help?

Do you really have 20 minutes to lose? :p

Trust me, your serial is fine. Servers are not responding so they cant tell if your serial is ok or not. Give it some time...

Old-fashion way: wait, wait..................

Neither form works for me. :( Funny thing is, if I enter my serial to check the support level, the system finds it without problem. I guess, they use a different set of servers for that.

That worked for me as well and now it says I have to wait for my claim to be processed....I assume that's normal?

This says that online purchases are the ones affected... for those who have gotten it to work, did any of you purchase online?

Mine was a BTO iMac bought online through their education store.
