It might be the servers are just overloaded with requests still.
My order just went through with no problems using the same card I did for the original purchase.

Now, i am certain that is it not a server overload, rather an error in the request form that seems to be inconsistant. Sure, a few lucky one get the right frame and they get there code but otherwise, if we consider only 1 server, at ~100request/minutes times 3 days....

I get 432 000 computer from June 6 through yesterday... That could be formulated in that timeframe... Lets divide that by 200, it makes 2160 persons that wants ther OS X lion... Even my old HP Pavillon can handle those request...

Conclusion=sever error or misconfiguration

I'm with you - apple should be able to handle the requests. I must have gotten real lucky because mine went through without a flaw. (FYI - purchased on apple.com on June 22nd).
There seems to be some massive f-up on order dates, serial numbers etc.
Hopefully apple's got their best "geniuses" working on it. ;)

Yeah, you are right. The only thing is that they seems to be aware of the online order issues but other than that, all computer purchases prior to June 20th seems to give the "cannot find serial"..

The good thing is that i reached a management representative and he was able to give me a coupon code for the inconvenience. On the evening, he even send me a e-mail stating that AppleCare lines "can assist directly with this issue"...

Got my Code

Got my code from the long from Submission method.... Downloading Lion as of right now....

Be patient everybody.... If you have done the long form submission method..... You will get the Email with attached pdf which contains a redeem code to download Mac os x Lion.....

I think the you should wait atleast till sunday 11:00 PM........bcoz there are a lot and lot of requests....... You will get your code probably by sunday...
Just keep checking your email account...

When did you submit your request? I sent my about 1:30pm (UK time) on Thursday.

I hear that people are getting theirs around the 50 - 60 hour mark.

Saying that, all this negatively on Lion makes me think if I really want to install it. :)

In the UK, purchased online from an Apple reseller. I sent them proof to update date of purchase 2 weeks ago as I didn't want a single issue with the free upgrade. Date of purchase was updated on their systems.

I have constantly checked short form, long form and post 21st July purchase route. All have stated 'can't qualify ....'

Wednesday evening - Mainland Europe call centre. Was told to wait a few hours
Thursday morning - Got UK first line support. Then Irish 2nd line. He said it will be sorted within the 24 hour SLA.
Thursday afternoon. Same as above - UK then Ireland. Will be sorted Thursday evening. Told me I could just buy and then claim back.
Friday morning - UK then Ireland - will be sorted today.
Friday evening - I purchased it and called up to charge back. India then Ireland. Indian call centre guy told me there hadn't been any known issues at all. Ireland told me submit claim online with the iTunes guys.
Saturday morning - India told me uptodate was fine and only had issues on Wednesday. I questioned this and was told this was 100% the case. Then put through to Europe who told me 1m had been processed and a small 1000 were still having issues. I called him on this and he backtracked. He then told me it won't be resolved today and if I want an upgrade I should check every 2-3 days.

In conclusion
*India call centre are not being communicated with effectively about this issue.
*Irish call centre seems to know the most and are actually nice to customers unlike
*Manland Europe call centre thinks I am immaterial and stupid for actually wanting an upgrade anytime close to release date. Isn't this hype of new things all part of the Apple culture?!?

I am hoping I get my refund but will continue to try and get a code in case I don't get a refund easily.

What makes me the most angry is Apple supported paying customers with upgrading to Lion, yet those promised a free upgrade have been left dangling. I am guessing this is because it's not new money for the company. Had it happened to their payment system on the Appstore on Wednesday it would be sorted immediately. For many it will be the first large Apple purchase and it gives a very very poor welcome to apple support and products.

How is there no contingency. They should be openly telling everyone to pay then claim. They aren't even willing to tell customers when it's resolved.

One week after Lion's release my serial number is still not accepted on the UK up to date website.

Almost one week and still no response from Apple with regards to the redemption code, just the stock "your claim reference" email.

Bit of a poor show.

Apple up to date now works! The servers must have been updated with a load of serial numbers.

Downloading now, although I'm going to hold off installing until the first few patches come out.

I got through, but no email came?

I am not sure if I messed up or something. But no email has come. I thought it was suppose to come right away, at least the claim email. What is going on?

This thread is a year old, from the Lion Up-to-Date program, not Mountain Lion... I would suggest re-posting in the correct thread for more visibility :)
