called Apple... the guy I talked to said they were aware of the problem (obviously) and they are working to try and get it fixed by the end of the day... I want my Lion!!!!

Apple doesn't bother much with piracy control. At $29, the upgrade is cheap enough that most people will buy it without thinking twice, so it really will not damage Apple's bottom line much if a few cheapos don't want to spend the $30 for the software.

Oh yea, I agree with Apple being lax about anti-piracy, but I was just wondering if this truly is technically impossible or possible to do.

Okay I went though and did the long process. It tells me that my claim is being processed and that I will receive an app code. How long is it going to take before I receive this app code? I also have the claim reference code, what do I do with that?

No idea on the time frame. Keep the code. I'm guessing it acts as your receipt.

Did the same at 9:00 AM EST time...(The long process)
No replies yet... and the girl at customer support at Apple told me that the servers are down/being repaired and it may take a "few" hours to fix it....

My bad. I thought your problem was you were not home. The actual problem is you don't know the security code on your credit card?
Once you enter your credit card info for a $0.0 purchase it should give you a code. You can redeem your code when you want. Correct?
It is both. Not home and don't have my security code.
But No worries got it all sorted out, lion downloading on my iMac at home :)

If you already have a iTunes account, i guess so...

Hello, to anyone who has successfully completed the process WITHOUT a credit card attached to your iTunes account, could you please share the process or steps, as it's been giving me major issues as well.

I've tried to add my vanilla Mastercard (which has worked fine to purchase online goods in the past) to no avail. I've also tried adding another Mastercard, which is a Freedom card (valid credit card, just pre-load your own funds) which also doesn't seem to process.

Upon entering my serial number, I am eligable and it shows me that I am. It says proceed to the next page, which asks you to sign-in, I sign-in successfully, then it re-directs me to the payment page, enter my card details (both cards) it says there was an error processing... but why would it try to even process, when the total and such says $0.00 - its quite confusing and I reckon apple should fix this issue, especially for the users who don't have credit cards!!!

Bull Crap!

I input my info, it was OK'd, and the Lion up-to-date "purchase" is showing up on my receipts page. Now what? When I go to the Mac App Store, it is still listed as $29.99?

I asked too soon. On the front page of the App Store, in the right sidebar, is a "Redeem" link. Follow that link, and then take the Lion serial number from the order page, and plug it in on the Redeem page. Download will start automatically.

Are there still users that are still having "Sorry, we can't find the serial number[..]"?

Oh yeah. This guy. Joined the forums today after trolling in the background all night waiting for Lion, and now its been out for almost 12 hours and I still can't get it. ARGH!

Anyone else still not able to get their up-to-date promise fulfilled?

Me too. I can't believe Apple screwed this up... did they not test this beforehand? Just... want... Lion...

Eh, I'm not sure i understand your post...
Are you saying that im trolling? or did i just didnt get the tone...

sry if this is not what you intended...

Definitely still trying and trying... I didn't expect Up-to-Date to be a 'second class' avenue to Lion or I wouldn't have purchased my computer in the interim between the announcement and today. It's been really frustrating. Over the phone they're happy to acknowledge that I'm entitled to the free upgrade, and that all my ducks are in a row, but they insist that there is no other way they could possibly make good than via their Up-to-Date servers, which they assure me will work at some point in the future.

I suppose they do already have my money, and the fact that I'm not downloading Lion means that someone just about to pay will have an easier time of it without me in the way...

I'll just keep trying, in any case, as I don't even have $29 just now!

No no no, I meant I was trolling (not bothering people, just lurking in the background I guess is a better way to put it). I was commiserating with you. Sorry for the confusion.

Any luck?

The error message has changed from "ineligible serial number" to
"There has been an error with the system. The administrators have been informed, please try again later."
But the problem is not resolved... I want to upgrade to lion!!!

The error message has changed from "ineligible serial number"

I'm still getting "ineligible serial number" on the long form...

Here's a thought -- How upset should we be by this? I'm trying this new zen sort of mentality (I sorta fly off the handle at little things sometimes) and want a second opinion...

I'm pretty pissed, but hiding it well. I wanted to call AppleCare and talk to someone again, but they're closed for the night. But really, is this something we should shrug off? Or get all HULK SMASH on their asses?

etcetera, i am exactly in the same mood set as yours. Just before the lines closes, i did call a 3rd time apple customer support.... Honestly, i was on the edge of going in berserk mode...

Be assured that ill call tomorrow morning if i still don't have my code...

Glad I'm not alone.

So let's collect our knowledge:

I called one time today, around Noon CST. Talked to a guy who honestly didn't seem too up on the situation at all, but assured me to keep trying and that it should be fixed in a bit. He did confirm that my serial number was eligible, which was nice to hear. I thought for a second that they'd try to say I somehow wasn't eligible now and then there'd be a fight.

Anyway, purchased my MacBook Pro 13'' i5 (my first mac ever) on June 14th. Just as when I bought my iPhone last year, I can't imagine going back to the crap (compared to my Apple products) I used to use. This, honestly, is the only issue I've ever had with Apple. Does this stuff happen often?

Anybody else get any further information out of customer service? Any sort of realistic time frame other than "should be a few hours"?

I need to install a bunch of softwares but I figure I better wait until I upgrade to lion. BTW, do I have to reinstall everything after I get a fresh install of OS? -- I'm new to mac os...
