Why doesn't Apple just give away free bumpers to those people who are experiencing signal issues due to the capacitive coupling and when customers come in to receive their bumper, they can schedule an appointment to get their phone replaced at a later date?

Problem solved.

I think that would be the perfect solution and that would make me happy. It would show they took it seriously and were willing to make it right. Then for the effort I would have a bumper for my new phone.

i've decided that i hate the forums. no matter what you say, someone will come back and say "Nope. You're wrong." It's just exhausting. If you ever disagree with SJ, you're a troll. What a joke. i quit

Well, bye!

LOL. Actually, I agree with you, Apple-related forums can be a bit exhausting, no matter what side you're on. The FanBOIs argue with a religious fervor that makes the Jesuits and the Inquisition look like a girl scout camp-out, and the Trolls attack with the vigor of starving great white sharks let loose in a pool of wounded sea lions.

Also, almost any thread around here devolves into a flame-fest after about 4 or 5 pages. Just don't bother reading or responding after that and you'll find it a lot less stressful. ;-)

Hey, what if you, and this might sound crazy, just returned the phone instead of start yet another class action suit. Just an idea.

No no no, that won't work. Some people really hope and think that courts in the USA will sentence apple to pay billions of damages to affected users. Think of all the dropped calls and the important information that was lost forever and the results of that:

-Husbands coming home unexpected
-No milk in the fridge
-5 minutes of lost Facebook and Twitter time
-etc..

Compensation is needed, millions of it, and Apple needs to pay.

For what its worth, I read an article earlier about older 3G and 3GS doing this exact same thing. The key was iOS 4. With iOS 3.x the problem didn't occur. My wife just got home with her 3GS and for ***** and grins I grabbed her rig and tried the same thing everyone is doing with their iPhone 4s. Low and behold the 3GS immediately dropped all 5 bars down to 1.... and when I say immediately, it was much more rapid drop than on the iPhone 4.

It seems to me that Jobs may be unaware of a potential software bug in iOS4. I have no idea, but food for thought anyway.

I can confirm this. I am on Rogers in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS4. If I hold it firmly in my hand, I drop 2 bars. My wife has the exact same phone, but did not upgrade the firmware. Here's does NOT drop any bars.

Someone else also noted the same in www.iphoneincanada.com. For my phone it's an issue with iOS4. Hopefully it's the same problem with the iPhone 4's.

I was planning on buying a case anyway, so I'm more amazed by this than upset. But that said...

There needs to be legal action taken... Not for $$$, but an order that Apple must only show photographs of their beautiful phone in bumpers from here on out. There will have to be a big asterisk in any ads of course...

*Bumper not included**

**A Bumper or other case may render your phone usable.

I've found the Evo/Android fanboys to be just as bad or worse. Even though the Apple folks fight with will of the first and second crusades, they usually tend to be a bit older, mature, and well reasoned. Normally I avoid any comments regarding any new smartphone post. I just happened to be more curious about this one since, I haven't been having any issues on my end.

I took a look at your previous posts and saw on the first page that you called some people douche bags, and responded to a number of people with "you're wrong" yourself. Maybe it's you that's attracting these responses in stead of people being unfair. So I suggest staying and taking a look at your own way of communicating before dissing the forum. I find that you always get a good answer if you ask your questions nicely and contribute.

And then you have folks like this stuck in their moms basement or just no life whatsoever in general.

So much so, that they have to go to sites posting content that they have zero investment or interest in at all just to flame ppl.

Seriously, you have no life. Try picking up WoW or something.

Problem solved.

Or they can sell them for $10 including tax. What person is going to cry foul for $10? That's a movie ticket.

Seriously, if you can demonstrate this flaw they should run a ``bring your phone in and get a bumper for $10 [$9.99] and then test the results afterwards.

I was configuring my sister-in-law's 3GS today and not once did I squeeze the phone to hang onto it. I'm also left handed and only hold it in my right hand to talk.

I was going to buy a bumper for protection, at any rate, and if they do run a $9.99 bumper special I hope people find that as a solid compromise.

It beats the $29 + tax for the bumper currently.

I don't get it, every time I go on this website, when I see them advertise a new product, everyone is like OMG IM GONNA GET IT! IT LOOKS SO COOL AND SHINY! and then the next few days they encounter all these issues and everyone is like I HATE STEVE JOBS, THIS THING DOESNT WORK IT SUCKS IM GOING TO VERIZON.

Same old crap. That's why i wait for a while till they fix the issue and bring in the new stock, i don't get it right away like all of you fanboys do, there's no rush, you can always WAIT

How long does it take to drop a call when doing this drop call trick? I tried it on 3 or 4 of them (wifi off) in the Apple store and it took 10-15 seconds between bars being dropped. I really think this is being blown way out of proportion...

I mean, if you as a thinking being knows if you hold your phone a certain way it will drop your call in a matter of time you will learn not to hold it like that. I got my iPhone4 even after I knew of this issue and guess what? I havent had one dropped call. I guess Im just a guy that wants his stuff to work and dont feel the need to make it not work. Call me a sucker but Im happy with my iPhone 4 purchase and I apologize to anyone that my happiness insults.

Are you mad?

You wold be happy with having to go to an Apple store, having to prove you have the issue then pay $9.99 for the pleasure of using a working product at last?

Look at what Nintendo did with the Wii mote covers. They sent up to 4 per houseold for free on a £179.99 console.

I'm sure Apple could give each iPhne user a bumper without breaking a sweat.

My iPhone4 isn't busted.
I do NOT have this problem at all.
Haters stop hating
Its not happening to ALL the phones.

Or like Apple scrapped one button mouse design immediately once they learned that everybody hated it.

That's not even close to the same thing as a potentially defective product. You see, there is something you need to realize: Your opinion is not necessarily the same as everyone else. I'm sure there were some people who like(d) their one-button mice, don't you think?

This isn't proving anything but that the Apple community is full of drama queens that search for problems to find some way for their products to be defective.

Apple won't do A THING to fix this and in a month ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS will disappear because everyone will realize this isn't effecting normal use of the phone. Why can't people just accept that Apple isn't STUPID, this is way too obvious for them to just NOT REALIZE... Apple won't 'fix it.' There's no PROBLEM, we're just creating one by manhandling our devices to reproduce this. How about you just USE YOUR DAMN DEVICE, you know FULL WELL you never would have noticed this if it wasn't spread all over the internet and you'd be JUST as happy with your iPhone 4 now as you were when you first opened it.

This is a NON issue.
