I'd get on a cheap charter flight from the UK and buy a few to sell on eBay (like I did back in '07 with the iPhone) but after looking at the completed listings on eBay - I don't see enough money to be made. The iPhone was cheaper, smaller and much more sought after back then - it was easy to pay for the flight, meals, a week in a hotel and get a free phone for myself. To pay for all that with iPads I'd have to literally fill a suitcase - and there are customs implications. I even unboxed all the iPhones and had a story ready that I "have a phone for each of my girlfriends ;) "

How many iPods were sold their first week of availability in October 2001?

How many iPhones were sold their first week of availability in June 2007?

Tablet computers have been on the market for a decade with Microsoft software. How many sold last week?

iPad isn't a tablet PC. It's a tablet computer. They are different.

Serious props to this Calebx guy. He's about as unhinged as any Apple hater this forum has seen. Seriously, what is it with these people who register just to go off on unsolicited tangents about products they apparently have no interest in? I honestly think these people have significant mental problems.

Or they are part of the Microsoft astroturfing effort in some way. But this calebx guy is probably not, for the astroturfers try to make Microsoft look good, and this guy makes them look bad.

I said tablet computers.

My bad - I didn't read properly - this is how I feel on my birthday.

Ok, Tablet PC > Tablet computer. Apple hasn't entered the Tablet PC yet, as others have.

I don't see Windows mobile on a tablet (although that Mangrove thing is ok, it never made it to the UK).

Hmm, the iPad is only released in the U.S. and it's #1 here. Oh, that's a real good litmus test you have right there.

"1 out of 1 people love the iPad." No, seriously, stop... you're killing me here! My sides are hurting from all the laughing.

Meanwhile the iPhone isn't the #1 global smart phone and you we're into our 3rd DECADE with Mac OS only getting a piddly 10% of the market share while Windows 7 is already AT 10% levels and climbing! HA! :D

But you little kiddies be happy with the little sardine you caught with your branch, string and hook. Maybe one days Jaws will bite! hahahaha
What is the point of your post?

Right, so compare it to the closest thing we have to compare it against. How many were sold last week?

I don't think that it is fair to compare the sales of a product that has been out a while to a product that has just been released. Comparing first week sales of another product would be fair though.

I just thought of something:

The rating of this article is purely subjective.

The "positive"/"negative" depends on your feelings. "Is it a good thing they sold 500,00?", I would say so... so you can rate it a positive. "It's being delayed in other countries"; that's a negative.

Splitting the article up like that muddies up the waters of rating this article positive or a negative. Just thought I'd throw that out there for Mac mods here for future wording of articles.

Furthermore, you could rate 500,000 as a (-) because you can't believe there's that many suckers in the world. lol But that's just the jaded comic in me for the last paragraph. And so is this picture. :p

Have patience grasshopper

As a proud owner of a 64GB iPad, I must urge Zen-like patience to my fellow humans without access to come to the US and grab one(or buy it through eBay at exorbitant prices)

All I can say, I have on and you don't have it, nah, nah, nah, nah. Sorry :), wasn't meant to be heard with my loud voice..

For a device that a lot of people have been criticizing since it was announced, it is awfully popular.

Since there have been other threads devoted to sales numbers, I think that it is pretty clear that this thread is about the delay in international shipping.

Hmm. I might have to pick one up at the Apple store in Vegas when I'm down there especially since CAD above the USD right now.

Clever marketing, brilliant! Keep your customers hungry  The harder an object of desire is obtainable, the more people want it.

I'll wait. And I'll even have to wait some more because I want the 3G model :D

What is the point of your post?

My point being, Apple fanboys here love to dismiss a surge of non-Apple products like in a multitude of sickening ways, but it's never allowed to look at the big picture (only being released in one country, that had wall-to-wall marketing and media buzz about it; the fact that this is just "blah, more of the same from Apple" when the iPhone was more a trail-blazer when it first launched).

Google tells you they sold BLANK # of Droids in the U.S., what do you guys says ("Released in ONE country being a hit? Pull-leez!"). Let's have some context on this launch, too. :)

This new Microsoft Kin that targets 'tweens to 25 with its right mix of simpliciiy yet ticks all the right boxes for parents who don't want their teens being THAT out there on the Internet (iPhone). To me, it looks like a cheap LeapFrog-like toy and I have no personal need fo rit, but if it sells like gangbusters, I'll be back to rub your hypocritical noses in the pooh when you say: "It just shows you people have no common sense."

Perhaps some of the developers were waiting to see the response to this thing before they committed to making iPad-centric apps.

these sales numbers are good all around.

It's a pity you folks overseas won't have access to the iPad for such a long, long time.

Here in the States they exist in such abundance that they're giving them away for free. When I went to the Apple store to get mine, they handed me eleven more. "Here," they said. "Might as well make it an even dozen, right?"

I use them as frisbees, set a few around as drink coasters. I mean, really, what else am I going to do with them?

Well there's a relevant and useful post.
The two stores nearest me are out of stock. They had stock at 10 am and by 10:50 am they were gone.

From what I've seen lately, the only people I've noticed using talk and text phones were people with minimum wage service industry jobs, and welfare moms and some old people.

So basically, people with low/fixed incomes. But anyone with a salary job or rich parents were using some kind of blackberry or smart phone. Most of those phones were either iPhones or BB.

The problem was not Apple's inability to make enough iPads. It was Apple charging too little. If the demand is such that they are selling out their current stock, they should have sold at twice or three times the price.

Apple, please jack up the price * 4. You can drop it back down when demand is filled.

No.

The 300,000 included the WiFi pre-orders. Sales are not slowing down. In fact, as these new devices reach the market and people play with them, sales will increase. I'm responsible for two sales already, just from people who saw mine, tried it and said they wanted one.

It will be like the iPod. Started out well, but accelerated in sales later on as more people got to see this new device.

Just saying "No" doesn't invalidate my statement and rhetoric convinces nobody with any intelligence. I'm aware that the 300 000 included pre-orders. Hence putting quotes around "first day" sales. Regardless of your opinion, ipad sales have LOST momentum from last week. They sold 150 000 in the first 4 days after launch, but in the following 6 days they only sold 50 000. Therefore, the data show sales are slowing. I didn't say the ipad would fail. I said that since last week there has been less demand, and therefore they should have been able to predict any shortfall in supplies last week, when demand was higher than it is now. But they didn't want to admit to their developers that they were going to delay shipment by a month, because they wanted people to get all excited and start developing for a product that wasn't going to materialize for two months.

Wow Apple please don't listen to this guy.
