I hate to break it to you, but there are still bugs in Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mt Lion... not upgrading because their might be bugs in software means you are never going to update any software ever again. =)

True but since Leopard, the latest release of the current OS has less bugs than the first release of the next OS. So if you don't want more headaches, it's wise to wait a bit and then upgrade. I never do it because I always want to use the latest, but most users imho should.

I'll probably wait and see what issues are being reported a week after Mavericks releases. I will want to make sure the applications I use don't have issues on Mavericks. I will probably upgrade somewhere between a week after Mavericks is released and when the first patch for for Mavericks is available.

Can't wrap my head around this. Will try again when I'm sober.

Most users won't wait. Just watch the top ten App store list during the first week. It will be all Apple apps (as usual) with Mavrix at the very top.

Memory Management

The two main things that have kept me off the Lion twins are an excess of skeuomorphism (hate it) and poor memory management. I bought my wife a MBP with 4GB of memory, which was fine for SL but leads to chronic beachballitis with ML. I had to boost memory up to 12GB to avoid this, and she's not really doing all that much on her system. If Mavericks just fixes these two things I'll love it, and I'll move my office systems (iMac and MBP) from SL to M.

I would disagree with that. If a given person is content with the current state of their OS, and everything works as they want it too and the features in Mavericks doesn't really entice them. Why upgrade. One thing that seems to be mentioned here and there is that there are bugs in Mavericks. I see no problem with a person staying on a stable version of OSX if it meets their needs.

I agree with you. I was slow to move from Leopard to Snow. I am now still getting used to my last upgrade of Lion/ML from SL. If I did not have an iOS mini-iPad I probably would not have upgraded as I did not need any of the features for 90% of my work / play. The iPad has spoiled me as to ease of use for general activities such as email, music, reading and browsing. I want more ease of use and portability. When upgrading I have to take into account my other software, printers, scanner and other add ons. I recently upgraded to Lion/ML to get features that my mini iPad has. I believe that there is streamlining going on under the hood with the new OS and there will be more in the future as we move towards an iOS / iPad experience for our non-iOS based hardware.

i had no problems with Snow Leopard, but i agree - lion was so bad i went back to SL and never went back. I only finally upgraded to ML on my MBP around may of this year!

still giving Mav a try now though :)

it's only day 2, so...we'll see how things go with all my apps (which all open & work so far).

but it's fast. hopefully stable. the 2 things i want most from the new OS.

i like the finder tabs, and am adapting to using them to move things around. i love the look of the calendar, notes... a few issues, but will deal with it.

all my hacks work! amazing...

i think it's a winner, and potentially apple's best OS to date (i loved SL, and ML...).

The jury is still out here.
Yesterday as ram usage increased up to the maximum available my system started lagging and at times the multi-coloured beach ball appeared and at other times a plain blue beach ball appeared.
After a reboot things are normal again. I'm just waiting until the ram usage creeps up to the max again (which it's designed to do, apparently) to see how things react.

Im really happy with the upgrade. The system is running well and RAM usage seems to be much lower, it seems apples compressed memory is really doing a good job. I just find that everything seems to run smoother on my mac. I have not yet seen the battery life advantage on my MBP, I have not done a full working test on my MBP's battery. Altogether, really satisfied.
