Gah what were they thinking? Do you think it would be easy to change the polarity or would it essentially destroy the case or leave visible scars?

Not at all. You can change the polarity of any magnet with a strong enough e-magnet. It's worth a try, and in any case, you can bring it back to the original.

Cool. I think I might just order this case even though the front cover may flop around.

I was looking for a case like this :) Ordered one this morning. It looks so much less bulky than some other stand cases, and much more stable.

cool, which model did you get and which reseller did you go for?
I'm hoping the Y+ and Y++ rectifies some of the impotent cover issues of the Y

cool! if its not too much, please write a mini review!

I also wonder where Ozaki is based at.. their name is Japanese but their site doesn't have a native Japanese language site nor is their products carried around Japan in most chains.

They are all identical except for the covering material and lack of or inclusion of the stylus itself. The cover "issues" won't change between them.

Despite all that there are some good prices on eBay.

In light of the issues people have been having with the Ozaki cases, I have been researching similar alternatives. I thought people might appreciate my results.

While I'm at it, I might as well recap some key results from the previous discussion about the "Ozaki iCoat-Slim-Y," "Y+," and "Y++." These models seem to be almost identical, except the "Y" omits the stylus, and the other models use different materials from different suppliers. (Remember, I'm just echoing here what I've read!)

As for vendors, igearguys has the Y++ on backorder in both black ($69) and yellow ($65). In stock, they have the Y+ Futurism ($65), Organism ($57), Rotionism ($57), Baroque ($65), Mechanism ($57), Art Deco ($65), Post Modernism ($57), and Y models red ($52), black ($55), white ($52), and brown ($52). Hopefully I got them all, since their website is difficult to search. With free shipping from Hong Kong (careful!), GimmeDigi has the Y models in brown, black, and white ($63), and the Y+ in "Green, Black, Brown, White + Grey, Light Blue" ($83). iTrendyStuff.com has various Y cases ($80) and Y+ cases ($90) (their Y++ are out of stock). Amazon has various models for $76-$95. The eBay seller mgs-mygearstore is selling several Y+ cases for $62, and also a black "Y" for $33!!! (TB07-NJ successfully received the $33 case.)

I did some original research into various alternatives:

The ONGUARD Triangus has been "coming soon" for a while. It seems that they are tailoring it for the new iPad 3, and one can hope that they avoid Ozaki's problems. Rumored MSRP $64.

There is the Kasja Svelte Collection (Origami). Unfortunately there is no portrait mode, and it doesn't look like it provides much protection.

The FlipSteady is a Kickstarter project in development. Looks very promising, but doesn't seem to provide much protection. (Perhaps it can be layered with something.)

The Incase Origami Stand is a foldable neoprene sleeve.

The Joby GorillaMobile Ori looks awesome! It's an origami-style, adjustable height, rotating stand. It's designed for the iPad 2, and the manufacturer has no plans to update it for the iPad 3. It seems up for debate whether or not the iPad2 version works with the iPad 3.

Finally, there's an awful product called the iLuv Origami Folio.

Slightly off-topic, but personally, I may ultimately ditch all of these possibilities and just buy the Ballistic Tough Jacket case. For the next three years I'll be working overseas. When I asked Apple about international AppleCare coverage, they told me that even with AppleCare, my iPad would need to be shipped to the US for service. Ballistic isn't as elegant as these origami cases, but at least I wouldn't need to worry about dropping it. (All notable competing products incorporate screen covers which blur the Retina screen.)

By the way, how much protection does the Ozaki case provide? If I accidentally knocked the iPad off my desk, what do you figure are its chances of survival while wearing Ozaki?

I'll be thinking it over for a few days before I place my order.

This is my first post. Hope you all find it helpful!

I ordered the pink Baroque style from igearguys, but I live in Australia so it won't be here for at least a week, probably longer.

I'll post pics/thoughts when it does get here.

I ordered the black y++ from igearguys they seem to have the cheapest price at 69.00.

I contacted them about my order which has been 'awaiting shipment' for a week, they were certainly quick to reply:

I apologize for the delay, it appears that it was backordered but they are telling me that it should be back in within the week.* I will keep you updated as I hear more.

Given that they had 68 of them supposedly in stock when I ordered its all looking a bit suss. I will organize a refund if they decide to give me the run around.

It's not their fault if you go on ozaki Facebook page they said the y++ is delayed a little to June in Singapore. The release date will probably be similar for the US.

In fact here it is from the source:

Actually I ordered a Y+ but delays aside they should be upfront about that on their website. (igearguys I mean) They had the baroque case listed as having 68 in stock when I ordered, and there's still no note on the page saying its out of stock. It's simply not good enough. I certainly don't blame Ozaki for igearguys lack of organization.

I don't blame you for being upset. They listed as having 48 in stock for the y++ when I ordered and then 2 days later they removed the stock counter.

Well this is an improvement:

An order you recently placed on our website has had its status changed.
The status of order #--- is now Shipped

Hopefully by the end of next week it'll be here. Has anyone else's order from igearguys shipped?

Did you order the y++? Mine hasn't shipped yet I ordered a black y++.

I did notice that Amazon has changed their availability on the y++ to ships in 2-4 weeks so I think they may be coming soon! Can't wait.

I probably was the cause of that :). I couldn't order the Y++ from that site because there was no pre-order button to add to cart. After going back and forth with igearguys support they finally realized that you couldn't pre-order it (they thought I could). They fixed it the next day showing stock but below that they stated the item might not be available as a note further below. They probably did it quickly just to get the pre-order page working. The nice thing is you could see how many were being pre-ordered.

They don't know when they will have it from the manufacturer yet going by the email to them earlier today. I have seen facebook posts from the manufacturer mentioning anywhere from mid-May to June. I hope they are taking the time to make sure it is even better :). I am in no hurry because I have a few solutions that I like (tucano magico with apple smart cover, Invellop leatherette smart case).

Yeah the Baroque Y+ has gone up in price by $20 however the shipping is now free, I paid $20 for the shipping, so for me it would be the same price.

Maybe in the US? But certainly not to Australia. But when I went through check out to see if the current offer applied to international orders it seemed to. I may order another case if this order arrives in good stead.
