In light of the issues people have been having with the Ozaki cases, I have been researching similar alternatives. I thought people might appreciate my results.
While I'm at it, I might as well recap some key results from the previous discussion about the "Ozaki iCoat-Slim-Y," "Y+," and "Y++." These models seem to be almost identical, except the "Y" omits the stylus, and the other models use different materials from different suppliers. (Remember, I'm just echoing here what I've read!)
As for vendors, igearguys has the Y++ on backorder in both
black ($69) and
yellow ($65). In stock, they have the Y+
Futurism ($65),
Organism ($57),
Rotionism ($57),
Baroque ($65),
Mechanism ($57),
Art Deco ($65),
Post Modernism ($57), and Y models
red ($52),
black ($55),
white ($52), and
brown ($52). Hopefully I got them all, since their website is difficult to search. With free shipping from Hong Kong (careful!), GimmeDigi has the
Y models in brown, black, and white ($63), and the Y+ in "Green, Black, Brown, White + Grey, Light Blue" ($83). iTrendyStuff.com has
various Y cases ($80) and
Y+ cases ($90) (their Y++ are out of stock). Amazon has
various models for $76-$95. The eBay seller
mgs-mygearstore is selling several Y+ cases for $62, and also
a black "Y" for $33!!!

(
TB07-NJ successfully received the $33 case.)
I did some original research into various alternatives:
The
ONGUARD Triangus has been "coming soon" for a while. It seems that they are tailoring it for the new iPad 3, and one can hope that they avoid Ozaki's problems. Rumored MSRP $64.
There is the
Kasja Svelte Collection (Origami). Unfortunately there is no portrait mode, and it doesn't look like it provides much protection.
The
FlipSteady is a Kickstarter project in development. Looks very promising, but doesn't seem to provide much protection. (Perhaps it can be layered with something.)
The
Incase Origami Stand is a foldable neoprene sleeve.
The
Joby GorillaMobile Ori looks awesome! It's an origami-style, adjustable height, rotating stand. It's designed for the iPad 2, and
the manufacturer has no plans to update it for the iPad 3. It seems
up for debate whether or not the iPad2 version works with the iPad 3.
Finally, there's an awful product called the
iLuv Origami Folio.
Slightly off-topic, but personally, I may ultimately ditch all of these possibilities and just buy the
Ballistic Tough Jacket case. For the next three years I'll be working overseas. When I asked Apple about international AppleCare coverage, they told me that even with AppleCare, my iPad would need to be shipped to the US for service. Ballistic isn't as elegant as these origami cases, but at least I wouldn't need to worry about dropping it. (All notable competing products incorporate screen covers which blur the Retina screen.)
By the way, how much protection does the Ozaki case provide? If I accidentally knocked the iPad off my desk, what do you figure are its chances of survival while wearing Ozaki?
I'll be thinking it over for a few days before I place my order.
This is my first post. Hope you all find it helpful!
