My case from igearguys arrived today, very well packed I must say. First impressions:

It looks and feels absolutely fantastic.
The on off feature works perfectly.
The corners of the top flap are loose, which will annoy some people, particularly if you just want to toss it in your bag.
The embossed design is really nice to look at and touch.
The various ways the stand can fold feels sturdy.
Despite only being held in by four little tabs the iPad feels secure and certainly doesn't feel like it will fall out. All the same I wouldn't go flapping it around.
The case feels a bit stiff to fold, although I expect that is only because it is new.
The cut outs are spot on.
The cover fits squarely and perfectly.
The stylus is a surprise, it's actually very good, I was expecting it to be just a cheapie add on, but it is a nice stylus in its own right.

glad to see that you finally got yours delivered!

my question is, how easily does the cover accidentally trigger the auto on/off?

and how is it in book mode? (cover folded all the way back)

I can turn mine almost right upside down before the sides of the front flap fall enough to trigger the on/off, I also tossed it in my backpack and it didn't trigger. If you hold it by the center of the flap on the open side it won't trigger at all and even if you hold it by the closed edge you have to swing your arms an awful lot to make it trigger.

I find it quite comfortable in book mode, that was a concern of mine too because the smart cover always annoyed me. It's not at all bulky. But all the same I prefer to fold up the triangle, although folding the other way is making it the perfect angle for typing this right now in bed :p

i see, so the magnets in the front are both for auto on/off and to keep the cover in place?

looking nice so far, the only thing I don't like is the logo on the side which may look a bit tacky for business settings. But so far the other origami type folios don't seem to have good reviews. The most similar one, the Iluv Origami is getting bad reviews on Amazon from verified customers.

I wonder if DieBurnBot got his/hers yet. Would be nice to see more reviews!

on a related note the price of the Slims has gone down! the Y++ is $65,the Y+ is 60. Y- is $55 ish depending on color.

Nope not yet. I noticed iGearGuys took off the backorder message on the order page though. However, no shipping notice for me yet. ;(

I found this case too Moshi iGlaze Versacover, it does the stand thing as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fj3bjL-AHjw

I wonder if it is better than the ozaki, they're saying it'll be available by the end of June.

It is meant to, but as others have said, if you wave it around madly the cover will flap around. If you did a brisk walk holding it by the 'spine' it might be a nuisance. I haven't had it turn off or on unintentionally myself, but I'm pretty careful with my iPad. Also I'm female so it gets carried in my handbag out and about. I'm going for a bit of a road trip tomorrow, I'll see if I have any issues then.

I don't like that Moshi one, the typing angle would be too uncomfortable for me, and microfiber attracts evey speck of dust, dirt and hair in the house :p

I'm not going to stick magnets on my beautiful iPad  That would annoy me far more than the cover flapping while I hold it upside down (which I would never do lol). It worked well on the car trip, plenty stable enough on the stand and I only had issues with the on off while shoving it in my bag and it got caught on a zipper.

wow that design looks really cool.
on the down side, as Lilo stated the typing angle doesn't seem to be as good because its steeper than the Ozaki. although this isn't such a big problem for me since I prefer to use a bluetooth keyboard.
on the upside, I really like the magnet on the back that keeps the cover in place, great for book mode. and the back shell looks more durable than the ozaki (looks).
the cover however looks like it doesn't stay in place so well so I wonder if it triggers the auto on-off easily.
all in all looks nice

you ever thought about adding two magnetic strips on the back like these guys? probably would be the one final thing to make this case one of the best. good for book mode!

I will be doing this when mine arrives. I bought a bunch of sheets of the material for my previous ipad 2 case.

I'm not going to stick magnets on my beautiful iPad
The material is not a magnet. It is more like a soft plyable material(EMI Absorber) that is attracted to the magnets in the apple cover. I assume it has some kind of metal particles embedded into the flexible material. I used it for my older belkin snap shield. You just put it between the ipad and the back cover.

Igearguys refunded me 10 bucks for the y++ because I asked them to match the new lower price. They also said it should ship Friday.

Lilo, I really, really like your pink one! Looks great! Too bad I've already bought three cases for my iPad 3 (I know, I'm out of control ) or I'd be ordering one today.

*quickly hides pile of rejected iPad cases* ;) Everytime I get a new iPad I go through the struggle of finding the perfect case. Fortunately I love this one, so the search is over for the next 11 months.

About where to buy OZAKI cases for new iPad

Anyone know where/if this is available online anywhere? I can't find it anywhere. Their website lists some US dealers but I still can't find it on their websites. It looks pretty nice!

I found that there are OZAKI iCoat Slim-Y cases on Amazon.com:

I have bought deep blue one too.:D

Sigh igearguys has pushed the delivery date of the y++ back again! I don't when I will get this case. In the mean time I ordered my second choice of case which was the Macally Covermate let's see how good that is. Still waiting for my y++ to ship though.

A little update: It happened twice so far that the iPad got fully discharged (from well over 50%) while in my rucksack.

I really wonder how the iCoat manages that as the iPad will switch off after a short while - I got a total discharge from 7:15 this morning when I put it in the rucksack till now, 6 hours later.

I hope this cover issue is rectified in the Y++ (there must be some reason why its taking so long to come out)
or is not present in the Moshi Versacover

As I understand it the '++' stands just for leather. But maybe they fix that 'poor engineering' too.

perhaps not, found this on Ozaki singapore's fb site

Customer:
Hello Ozaki, I purchased a Y+ on Saturday, however when the case is carried/ turned upside down, the front cover flaps open, leaving no protection. I saw that others had the same issue and you advised them to contact the service centre. I just came from Ban Leong at 150 Ubi. The service tech basically gave me a rubber strap and said that all the cases, including the new Y++ has this issue, and that Ozaki's solution is for customers to use this rubber strap, which I have to remove each time I open the cover. Is this correct?

Ozakiverse Singapore:
Hi, there's no problem or issue with the case. It is just that the magnet only found at the centre that hold the flaps of the case to the iPad. There's no magnet found on the top or bottom of the case/iPad. We are providing the extra strap for you to secure it.

Makes sense. The iphone 4 had a similar feature. You use a bumper case to keep the signal from being weak when you hold it certain ways. Sounds like they are just taking hints from the iphone manufacturer ;).

Seriously though I am still on the fence about the cover. I think it won't be an issue for me because I don't put my ipad in a backpack or anything like that. The only issue would be if there is no way to carry it in my hand to my side without the case triggering the ipad on/off. Being upside down is not really an issue because I rarely put the case so that it is in that orientation. I would never use a strap during every day use but if it needs it on the rare chance I need to put it in a bag then that wouldn't be a big deal for my usage scenario.

I am hoping to catch a video of someone carrying one to see if it is something I even need to worry about or not. Anyone with a Y or Y+ feel like making a video of the cover in action when held in a bunch of oreintations? None of the videos I have found emphasis that.

I agree, many of those ozaki review videos are pretty bad.. half don't know how to fold the cover and use it properly, the other half are secretly ads trying to promote their business, none really show how its held in different orientations. It would be nice if metagamers (psychonaut) could review it!

perhaps LilothePleo would be nice and make a video of it :D

Hi guys, I'm new here and got the same issue with the Slim-y. Just posted a quick video to show it.

Personally, it could get quite annoying. For now I just keep the lock sound muted but it just "hides" the problem since it may keep draining the battery if you're carrying it in a backpack.

So, I have waited and wanted to see what else I could find, and even with the problems I still feel like this case offers exactly what I need. Can anyone else give there thoughts on this after some use.

Have you been able to live with the problem? Or have you returned or sold the item?

i've been following the case for some time and most reviews and concerns basically say its a good case, but some people have issues with its droopy/loose cover and that Ozaki (at least the ones in Asia) are trying to rectify this by basically offering a fancy rubber band.

before jumping on this, I say wait and see the reviews for the Moshi Versacover that's supposed to come out this month. Its pretty similar to the Ozaki but will it have the same cover issue.

Pong also had a very similar case (actually I believe Pong was the first to use this origami cover design) and it had the same issues as the Ozaki, but costs quite a bit more.
