I really only follow baseball, but occasionally I'm subjected to a football or basketball game and find myself wondering each time how anyone can say that they are more exciting to watch. Granted some of the action in a baseball game is more subtle, but it seems to me in basketball and football, you get your bursts of action, but most of the game time is occupied with players milling around the court or field during a time-out.
I couldn't agree more, although I do have my favorite football teams I like to watch. Baseball is a more intellectual sport

Sorry I'm tired of the same old off pitch singing by some past singer in the 80's.

Don't get me wrong, the Backstreet Boys were terrible in all of their albums, but I kinda liked that rendition. I think it is just because they have a bad reputation (deserving of it) that most people didn't like it, I dunno.

they have a bad rep because most of their music was garbage aimed at teenage girls that say "like.." every other word they speak

Football has never really interested me, now when I have a couple of beers with friends and its extremely interesting. but baseball is something I seem to be able to watch for longer periods of time and keep interest. It's a great conversational sport.

great double play just now!!! this rays defense is as sharp as ever. i'm not really shocked too much at their defense like most of america since i've sen it all year long.

Am I the only one who actually kinda enjoyed the Backstreet Boys anthem? :p

It was different, which is always good and it was kinda good sounding.
It was maybe the worst version I have ever heard. It didn't even sound like the anthem.

Would someone care to explain the five-man infield? I've never seen anything like it and I didn't even know it was legal!

I guess they were trying to make sure they could make a play at the plate if it was a line drive. If it was a deep hit, out or not, would have pretty much been a tag up and a score. Not that it mattered. You know you're a Phillies fan when you have bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the 9th and you're waiting to see how your team isn't going to score :) Thank God they did!

Go Phils!

It is really no different than a shift. As long as 9 players are on the field it doesn't matter where they play.

I've heard of the five-man infield but never seen it tried before. And in a World Series game? Wild!

Fun game -- worth staying up to watch. (Well maybe not to 2 AM, but that is one of the benefits of living on the West Coast.)

Woohoo!!!! Even Blanton is taking it downtown. First home run by a pitcher in the World Series in 34 years.

The calls in this entire series are bogus. Moyer sucked last night, but the gracious 4 foot wide strike zone made him look good and stifled our offense. Tonight's no different, except now we've got an obvious tag with Evan Longoria literally shoving the ball up the guy's butt, oh nevermind, the ump wasn't looking at the play. This has to be the worst officiated World Series of all time. Give me a break.

How about letting the players decide this series instead of bad umps?

I guess you forgot about Moyer's diving flip to Howard that was an obvious out last night. That ump's bad call led to a run for the Ray's. Yes, the play you mentioned above was a bad call, but they even out over the series.

as much as i would like it to be the ump's fault, the rays are just not showing up in this series, they have little hitting and their pitching is starting to fail as well. unless they come back tonight (i doubt it), they will be facing a must win situation tomorrow or risk seeing the phillies celebrating at home. as a braves fan, i don't want the phillies to win the world series, because that means bad philly fans get to do whatever they want next year. i already had one call me bitter, and i'm going to have to put up with that for a whole year.

i thought tampa had a stranglehold on philly sports...if they do, it has to show up early tomorrow.

All I want to know is...

Where are all the Philly fans in this thread?

Let's see if Hamels can win it all tomorrow!

That one was worlds different. For one thing, the distance between Crawford's foot and the bag was MAYBE 3 inches. The distance between the guy and the bag tonight was about 4 feet. Last night's call was also different because the ump couldn't physically see the ball, it was impossible for him to see. Typically they watch the runner's feet and listen for the pop of the glove. Bare handed catch=no pop. Tonight's play was right in front of him, he just wasn't looking at it. There is no excuse for that.
