and yet you're more than happy to give schilling the benefit of the doubt based on his past performances.

At least you're (in)consistent.

Dude, he's been beyond *&*% horrible for the sox since he got here. No way around it, and no suprise why fans are on him. It's not really debatable.

He's JD Drew Part Deux. So when Sox fans groan when he's brought in, it's because they know he's gonna give up runs. And he sure does deliver on that.

Schilling, on the other hand, has an excellent playoff record.

I think I am beginning to understand why Ted Williams didn't tip his cap when he hit that last HR.

Yeah.. Schilling's past performance of 7 shut out innings against the Angels last week.. versus Gagne's 8 blown ****ing games for the Sox since August 1st.

Schilling gets the benefit of the doubt because he did well a week ago. Gagne hasn't done since we traded for him. His ERA is like 20 in Boston.

I figured why start? Since you haven't used an ounce in your "Gagne Love Fest"

Well avoiding it doesn't really render the logic absent. To repeat myself, for starters you could comment on the fact that Schilling couldn't get out of the 5th inning, and let up 5 runs in the process requiring Francona to bail him out with Okajima and Delcarmen or that all Gagne did was let 2 runners on with 1 out while someone else let them score.

I mean if allowing 2 runners in an inning is the criterion for yanking a pitcher, Schilling would have lasted about 2/3 of an inning on Saturday after giving up doubles to Sizemore and Martinez.

Luckily for the Indians, they kept him in allowing them to score another 4 runs off him.

No kidding. With all the whining about the Red Sox losing a game, the real story of the season goes by almost without notice.

The Rockies are simply playing some of the best ball over a sustained period of time I have ever seen.

It's very very impressive.

That being said, the Rockies-D'Backs series simply doesn't have the same energy as the ALCS. Not for me anyway.

Incredible 20 out of 21 streak! I looked all over to see the game, and couldn't find it. Who televised it? (We get hit and miss coverage of games where we are).

I'm curious...has any team ever swept the DS, the CS and the WS? With the way the Rockies have been playing, it looks entirely possible. Would be one hell of a feat.

Chicago in 2005 came the closest:

ALDS (3-0): CHW vs. BOS
ALCS (4-1): ChicagoW vs. LA of AN
World Series (4-0): Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros

Ahh yes, correct, The yankees are in there too! Thanks xsedrinam.

I don't believe it's ever happened. Rockies tied the record tonight at 5 in a row. last team to do that was the Reds in '76. The 1999 Yankees and the
2005 Chicago Whitesox are the only two teams to lose only one game in the post season.

Before the present post season, the 1976 Cincinnati Reds were 7-0 in the post season in the old playoff/post season format. But with the present day playoff format, it hasn't happen yet

Prior to 1969, it was easy. Of course, there was only 1 round!

1976 Reds swept the Phillies (NLCS 3-0) and the Yanks (WS 4-0) when there were 2 rounds.

I have followed him, and realize he's not the same pitcher. I'm just noticing that Boston fans like Yankee fans have a tough time giving any credit to the opposition.

I don't think that is true for the Red Sox fans any more than it is for other teams fans. Naturally people are going to be dissapointed after a very close game like that.

In 1998 the Yankees went 3-0 against Texas, 4-1 against Cleveland, and 4-0 against San Diego. That Yankee team is argued to be the best team ever with 125 wins.

Must be the NL record, because the Red Sox won 8 straight in '04, and I think the White Sox did in '05.

Anyways, I must be the only Sox fan who's blaming Lopez instead of Gagne. Like I said earlier, at least Gagne got an out, and probably could have gotten one or two more, rather than a single, wild pitch, IBB, and another hit, and then handing it off to your safety net for game 4.

Okay, this may sound weird coming from a Sox fan, but stick a fork in the D-Backs. Snakes don't bite rock. :p

Spare me. Seriously, one game? The truth is, both Red Sox and Yankee fans see themselves as being at the center of the baseball universe. Always have. Trust me, other baseball towns are not like this.

One of the teams the Rockies climbed over in the final month of the season to get where they are today is the Dodgers. Am I disappointed? Sure, especially since the Dodgers were in first place for most of the summer. But I'm not moaning about it. In fact I take my hat off to the Rockies. They're a great baseball story, one of the best in years. I hope they go all the way.

It's not just Red Sox/Yankees, it's East Coast sports mentality versus West Coast.

I believe Bill Simmons over at ESPN wrote a good column on this last year or earlier this year.

People live and die with their sports teams on the East Coast.

I grew up in the NYC area, lived there for about 18 years til college then moved to LA for about 7 years.

There's just no comparison.

For the most part people on the west coast don't care as much about sports as they do about the movie stars.

In my family the topic is always Red Sox/Yankees. It is a big deal here.
