I know it's old news now, but I really can't agree with that. The catcher took his cue from the pitcher, yes, but the pitcher correctly told him that it was an out. The ump made the right call and then reversed himself after getting confused by A.J. The call was OUT - anything that takes place, doesn't take place, or should have taken place afterwards is beside the point.

Anyway, now it looks a lot like White Sox/Astros. Cards would have to beat Pettite/Oswalt/Clemens in order to advance. Possible, what with Carpenter going tomorrow and the last 2 at home, but not likely. What's amazing is that the Astros are 2-31 with runners in scoring position this series, and are leading 3 games to 1!

I called (months ago) Cards/Angels, but this will be a good WS too. (assuming the cards don't come back) we'll either have the end of a second curse in two years, or have a team win its first title ever. Good times.

And just you wait - the Red Sox will be back and better than ever next year. :p :D

Dammit- give the White Sox credit. They would have won this series regardless. When's the last time you saw four starting pitchers go nine innings and win? These guys deserve to be where they are, bad call or not.

I agree. The Sox deserve to be in. They earned it. I really wanted to see a Chicago vs. St. Louis Series, but it looks like that's just not gonna happen, this year. Houston still has to beat Carpenter, next game. If the NLCS goes back to St. Louis at 2-3, there's still a slight chance.

I really don't want to see Chicago vs. St Louis. Idiots will destroy this town! :)

The point is, the catcher should always tag or throw no matter what he thinks the ump has called in a situation of this kind. It makes the call irrelevant -- and I have no doubt that a more experienced catcher would have done just that. I suppose many people will look back at that play and mark it as the turning point of the ALCS, which one way or another, I suppose it was. But the truth is, the Sox outplayed the Angels and no matter how game two turned out, it was always the Sox's series to lose.

But what about that play to end game four in the NLCS? Anything but that great double play and the game is tied in the bottom of the ninth.

Dammit. That game last night was painful to watch - sure there were some questionable calls, but in the end, the Cards just didn't deliver, with or without runners on. Edmonds hasn't delivered in the clutch at all this series, and you have to credit Houston's pitching for that. To have the opportunity to score 1 or 2 against Lidge and blow it? Devastating. Coming back to St. Louis 2-3 would be a replay of last year, when they did go to the series.

But I don't think even if they make it they'll beat the Sox. The Sox pitching is just too good. And they can hit. I think it's the Sox's year all the way.

That's where you're wrong. Cubs fans would root for St. Louis and the south side would root for the Sox. Trust me, bad situation.
Cards v. White Sox is a Cubs fan's worst nightmare. Their South Side rivals vs. their long time ML nemesis? Painful. Who would they want to win? I think it would be a close call.

Game one would go into the 30th inning tied at 2, both runs pushed home by balks in the 7th and 13th innings. Due to nobody left in the dugout and bulpen for each time, it would come down to Ozzy Guillen having to pitch for the sox against La Russa. Guillen takes a line drive to the neck (not because I want to hurt him or see him hurt, just for the hand jestures to the Indians) and has to give himself the choke sign. The La Russa wins it...somehow.

Yeah, that's how I want to see this series. Too bad it's not going to be the Cards.

Whatever. Go WHITE SOX! :D

Well, I think my heart is beating again. 5-4 Cards and back to Busch!!

That game was AMAZING! It was easily the best baseball game that I've ever watched. I was at a Buffalo Wild Wings with some friends and the whole place was cheering the Cardinals on. In that ninth inning, when Pujols smashed that pitch, the place went nuts! Everyone was jumping up and down, high fiving and hugging everyone else- it was an awesome experience.

There is still some life left in this team!

Hey man- why are you so for the Cardinals? They're the Cubs' rivals. I don't get it.
I'm not a Cubs fan. I live in Chicago now, but grew up closer to St. Louis and am a lifeline Cardinals fan.

My Chicago team is the White Sox, though, so if the Cards can't make it, I'll root for the Sox. If they do make it, this will be a rough week, since my coworkers are Sox fans.

But I keep thinking back to last year, when they came back to St. Louis 2-3 to the Astros. They went on to win those 2 to make it to the Series. If that happens again, it will be fantastic - as long as they don't fold as quickly to these Sox.

If they don't, well, c'est la vie, but at least they were fighting this one out. That homer last night just about punched through the wall. If it wasn't a domed stadium, it might have made it to Dallas.

:D

You must be near St. Louis. I was out with my family Sunday night and they had the game on. They were cheering when the Cardinals lost.

But you can thank me for the win. I called my dad earlier, knowing he can't watch these games because he gets too nervous/upset at the close ones. I called him in the top of the 7th when the Cards were up by 1 and he said he was going to go to bed (he hadn't watched any of it) and would read the results in the morning. I told him not to worry, that when he woke up he'd see that they had won and it was going back to Busch.

Then, of course, came the 3-run home run in the bottom half of the 7th, about a minute after I hung up. Crap. But I held out hope, since they'd come so close to getting to Lidge the last 2 outings. Then Pujols in the 9th. Whew.

I'd hate to lie to my dad. :p

That was an awesome game last night!

So far, it's a repeat of last year. And if it continues to repeat last year's NLCS, then I will be one happy Cards fan!

And in honor of last nights game, a new owned pic:

Gotcha! That's cool. But you have to admit, it'll be weird in this town if St. Louis goes to the World Series.

Just out of curiosity, would it bother you to see your kids in Cubs attire?

Last year at day care they took pictures of the kids - Evan got dressed in a Cubs uniform (without our knowledge). The picture hangs in our house without modification, even though I was tempted to Photoshop it :p

Of course, if they grow up to be Cubs fans I'll have to consider myself a failure at parenting. :D

That could be a new country hit: "Mama, don't let your babies grow up to be Cub Fans". :)
