I’m actually let down by the amount of logic in this thread. Very atypical. I guess the ‘rona is finally getting to Macrumors, too! Figured I would have seen 100+ preorder posts by now.

If Apple sold this at triple the cost, it’d probably be backordered until September though.

I just know there is someone out there that ordered this to go with their IPP and Magic Keyboard with screen protector, all inside a premium leather sleeve—fully insured with Applecare with loss/theft.

A case for a case seems very dumb but I also can see why this exists. The material Apple uses on their keyboard cases wear and tear so easily so this Pad & Quill one would prevent that. $100 though? Jesus...
I didn’t look at the price but if they‘re charging $100 for it then that’s insane. You’re better served by buying a cheap neoprene sleeve from Amazon If you want to maintain the Smart KB finish.

Ordered it today. I have used several of their cases and they are a five star product as well as 5 star service. I also have a leather version of this on backorder. It will probably not ship till June Because of issues with getting the leather from their supplier.
‘hey I wonder if MacRumors can a picture of the extra pocket (I ordered it that way)

🤔

What country is the leather from? Is it from a cow? If not, what animal is it from and how do you know?

This doesn't solve the problem of not having a case on the iPad when removed from the keyboard.

The leather is from US as is the supplier. It is my understanding that the supplier cuts a sews the leather and as a factory needs to protect his workers and establish the proper distancing on the factory floor as well as other safety precautions for the Aria and the Oxford Cases. The Aria will also hold the MKB

It seems like a skin is about as far as you'll get if you want the iPad Magic Keyboard.

The intention, I believe is that the iMK turns the iPad into a laptop, and not many people I know put a case on their laptop. So you pull the iPad off, use it, and return it to the iMK for use, storage and/or transport.

I think the iMK needs a latch, unless those strong Apple magnets keep it closed (not sure). That and an internal Pencil storage spot similar to the Surface's.

Personally I'd have both the iMK and the folio, since they're both easy to remove depending on the scenario.

EDIT:
Then again:

This thing is fantastic, no matter what people say. I'm just a bit worried about the linen finish wearing out. Can anyone recommend a felt or neoprene sleeve for the Pad & Quill case? Once in there, the case should be safe. I can then insert the sleeve into a zip-lock bag, for water protection.

Ive been looking for protection for my MK but from the pictures this is not it. Not for me anyway. A nice thin sleeve i can slide it into when taking on the road perhaps, but not something as elaborate and bulky as this looks in the pictures.

I loved the previous version of this case on the 2nd generation but the new isn't that great. If you don't have the keyboard it has only one position it sits at standing up. The design doesn't give it flexibility to really stand at other positions.

Apple had an answer to that in 2008:
Yep i was thinking of something like that. I will be very careful with it of course, but i figure the wear and tear will come from holding it in you hands for expended periods of time or rubbing up against things in a bag dinging it or scratching it.

Also I think the MK perhaps needs little bumper feet at the bottom like laptops so as not to stain or scratch the material. The material holding up is what I am most concerned about.

I have a Pad & Quill leather case for the 10.5" iPad Pro. It worked with the Apple Smart Keyboard Folio attached or not attached. It was a gorgeous and supple piece of leather, but it was heavy. And it attaches via long 3M adhesive strips, which - contrary to P&Q's marketing materials - left a bit of residue on the back of my iPad Pro.

The case shown above is actually the "cheaper" model. P&Q also makes a leather model for a few dollars more that can be used with or without the Magic Keyboard. The 11" version weighs 13 ounces, whereas the 11" iPP + Magic Keyboard already weigh between 2 and 2.5 pounds. Plus, it looks bulky as hell to have two cases, one fairly thick, on the iPad.

I recently bought a 11" iPP + MK case, and even though I love P&Q's leather, I'm gonna have to take a hard pass on this one.

In case anyone wants to see the leather version of this case, here's the link:
