I’m curious if this is a product they intended to make ahead of the HomePod release, because that was relatively fast, since the article surfaced yesterday. Just seems coincidental that these are available for sale the following day after the article of the HomePod leaving marks.

The answer is in post # 4, see below

LOLOLOLOLOL... $20?

Here's 6 leather coasters on Amazon for $15... https://www.amazon.com/Leather-Coasters-Protect-Furniture-Scratch/dp/B075PW1KKG/

It legitimately looks like Pad & Quill just ordered something similar to those and stamped their name on them.

If you buy one of these....well....I’m not going to say. I’ll get banned.
I’ll will say, though, you can’t feel like a really smart person if you buy one of these.

The Amazon page says these are "PU Leather", which is fake leather (PU = polyurethane), aka pleather.

I assume the Pad & Quill one is real leather. (But then again, if it's under your HomePod, who cares what it's made of? Still, I admire P&Q's enterprising spirit and ability to quickly meet a market need).

Placing an insert between the speaker and a table may reduce the lower frequencies that would occur when a table vibrates with Apple's pod foot.

Very smart business.

Why not just get one of the kids to stand still and hold it, by promising them ice cream?
We did that but with TV antennas.

More likely it's closer to what @ck2875 said. They're repurposing ordinary leather coasters and trying to gouge the gullible. A cursory google of "leather coasters" will turn up more leather coasters than you can shake a stick at.

Why? It just leather with a circular shape and simple stitching. You can make dozens of these within an hour. The margin will be tenfold of the home pods margin.

I understand they can be manufactured relatively quickly, but my point was that HomePod marking article surfaced within less than 24 hours and there’s already an accessory to be had, I find it coincidental and conveniently fast. And of course, Naturally the margin of a leather coaster won’t be in comparison to a HomePod margin.
