The pre launch doesn't seem to have set the world alite. Reading on palminfocenter that one poster said every store selling it was empty and had plenty of phones. Apparently this exactly what palm and spring wanted as it allows them to ' manage ' the launch properly.......

I have to say I'm surprised but as one of my friends said no matter how good it is ( and personally I don't think it's that good, certainly no iPhone killed) unless it has an apple logo on it won't sell. He said his cool teenage kids and all their freinds all have to have apple products.

Also there is the fact that perhaps people are turned off palms attacks on apple and syncing with iTunes which could easily be turned off by apple.

Ps reading at engadget that they are suggesting the small queue at the chicago store was staged !
They describe the atmosphere in the store as low key and an 80. Minute Ctivation and sales process. Sorry can't copy and paste the link as I'm typing on my iPhone....

I just came back from a Sprint store to try it out and I have to say, don't bash it until you try it. It's quite good and as far as I'm concerned better thanks to multitasking.

All that stuff about feeling cheap, sharp edges, small keyboard is nonsense, the keyboard was surprisingly easy to use, I had the hang of it within a minute. I was actually really surprised that I wasn't making any mistakes. I have to admit that the OS does need some extra work, but I have to say that it really is up there with mobile OS X.

And anyway it is worth a try don't you guys think? Just because it isn't from your favorite company doesn't mean that someone elses product might not be better. Sprint has the second largest 3G network and can roam on the largest which is Verizon, that's some food for thought for anyone who sitll has their first generation iPhone I'd say. I don't know about you guys but using AT&T's 3G network has been dropped-call-ville here in Los Angeles, I'm ready to jump ship. I also like the idea of an extra $1,200 in my pocket, no matter how wealthy you are it always feels good to save some money.

I actually think the UI on the Pre is nicer than the iphones, that and the 3rd party multitasking is what I'll give to them. The UI makes the iphone's look kind of dated. I think Apple should change up the UI a bit.

But it so simple!
lol

That's just it, Apple is on top of its game. They have iTunes, it rocks. Why should Palm get to use Apple's quality software product to sell the Pre? It's proprietary!

Because it promotes the brand to someone who didn't buy Apple as their first choice. Good will goes a long way in any situation.

I got the pre today at best buy. There was only 1 guy in line. I got there at 10am. They only had 5 phones and 3 more people came right after me. I am really liking this phone. I can type so fast and the screen is so nice. I like how small it is. Also the service is great here full bars and really fast data. The UI is great and the multitasking is so nice. I can't wait to see the new iPhone. I can still return the Pre withing 30 days I believe but I am 95% sure I will keep it.

Also I get a discount with my Credit Union so my plan only costs $52 + tax/fees. Can't beat that.

To the people that believe apple have the best mobile operating system
how are you basing your decision?

I seriously fail to believe or agree with the claims that iphones O.S is the best.
It lacks so many standard features that other phones have had for years.

With other phones even the none smartphones you can bluetooth a file to anybody, connect to a printer and print using bluetooth technology. Email any attachment etc.

I know 3.0 will cover a lot holes but can you really consider the iphone os the BEST? When in terms or productivity & openess it lacks majorly and to implement some of its features it took 2 years?

Are you basing it on the fact that apple simplified the objective -c programming for its mobile lite os? Anybody can code an iphone app by simply following a "20 steps" tutorial and basic knowledge of obj C programming.

If we are basing it on the app store and its 40k then all credit due does not belong to apple but to to all the devs that made the iphone what it is. And any mobile platform can accomplish what the iphone have in terms of applications for it.
Where there is an API or programming language the sky is the limit.

I have been using the PRE all day and when you move away from the iphone you really notice that the iphone lack some simple essentials. Comparing both the pre makes the iphone feel outdated. I am running 3.0 beta 5 on my iphone and even with it installed it does not compare to the pre in the overall feeling of USE.

What is your take on this subject matter?

So why can't they say the iphone has the best operating system, it's their opinion.

How can you post a chart comparing several platforms (but obviously we're comparing the iPhone and WebOS) when it doesn't even show basic features like MMS or video? I'm not about to say the chart is slanted, mostly because I don't care that much, but yeah...

Apple is allowing the Pre to sync right now because then they can "backup" and "upload data to Apple," and then Apple engineers will have the OS design of the Pre. They can upload "a little here and a little there" from every Pre until they have the complete OS uploaded. Then they will release a new version of iTunes, and when Pre users go to sync, they will receive a pop-up message that says "FAIL!!!" :D

Uh, what's wrong with the chart? Did you dislike that it pointed out that there are limited apps and that there are not native apps besides what is bundled with the OS? Mojo is not a native API (interpreted Javascript) that makes use of C/C++ or some variant thereof while the iPhone SDK uses Objective-C.

O.k got me a pre.

To people in denial. THE PRE IN TERMS OF USE outshines the iphone in every single way. PALM EXERCISED THEIR experience on the phone market with
how seamless they integrated everything.

I have been using the pre for the last 3 hours and from checking email to texting is way more intuitive then the iphone. Love how it handles notifications. THE UI FEELS LIKE HOW A 2009 PRODUCT SHOULD FEEL LIKE.
Specially love how everything is laid out in terms of organization.

I HATE HOW THE IPHONE HAVE PAGES AND PAGES of apps. IT FEELS CLUTTERED and sloppy. the pre is way more elegant.

GOOD BYE IPHONE SEE YOU IN 2 YEARS.
Let me get this straight, are you trying to tell us that you wasted 300 bucks or more switching from an iPhone with AT&T over to Sprint after having an iPhone with a lot of apps? You do realize that those apps with not work on the Pre don't you? Are you some kind of rich kid with more money than sense? Do you realize that your Pre will only work on Sprint and as soon as you leave the US, it stops working?

Are you trying to tell us that you consider having a lot of apps available as a bad thing? Nobody is forcing anyone to download pages of apps.

There are two possibilities, you really are rich and clueless or you never owned and iPhone and you work for Sprint/Palm

I really hope for your sake that it is the latter because otherwise a fool and their money has just parted. In these tough economic times, I think such thoughtless expenditure is in poor taste.

Maybe the guy contract is already up and he only has free apps on his iPhone? Just a thought before accusing someone of something...would it be wasteful if someone from Tmobile with an Android jump to ATT for the iPhone?

It doesn't matter, he is still wasting money chasing after the latest gadget. It might be his money to waste or his parent's but I still think it is quite classless given the current economic climate.

Yes, switching from an Android phone recently purchased would be wasteful although not as wasteful as an iPhone full of purchased apps to Sprint.

I will have more respect to apple if they don't block the palm. May the better phone win!

May the better system win... if palm's so much better then why don't they build their own syncing app that's better than iTunes?

More likely a random troll who doesn't have enough money for an iPhone or a Palm.

That said, he's giving the economy a hand by stimulating it is he really is doing this.

What does the economy have to do with anything?! If anything, he's helping the economy by pumping more money into it. Are you merely upset because that money isn't going to Apple?

Feel free to express your opinion, but that made no sense whatsoever.

Actually I really don't care about this limited application stuff in terms of quantity, WebOS already has everything I want built in. The SDK isn't even public yet, so for anyone to expect a large amount of applications for WebOS today is rather silly. And anyway who cares if Mojo is not a 'native API' as far as I'm concerned applications such as Google Maps or even the browser run better on the Pre than they do the iPhone.

The App Store is filled with a lot of applications, true. But there are a lot of applications doing the same thing, and not many of them are that great. I'd rather have quality over quantity. Also like mentioned above the Pre comes with everything I want currently, the iPhone hasn't ever done that. I've always had to find applications to do what I want only to end up annoyed because I can't do something simple like stream music while surfing the web and check E-Mail. Also the notifications system on WebOS is quite superior to the iPhones, I can't tell you how irritating it was to get popups while in a streaming radio application, I'd have to close the application just to reply to a message or even worse to check what my inbox just received. What good is having a bunch of applications if you can't use them the way you like?

Also I didn't hide anything about what I felt was missing in the chart, note that I mentioned two features that are very basic, MMS and Video. Video by the way isn't on either. So how am I being unfair here?

Pre sounds and looks like a tampon - pre menstrual

Can't wait to see Apple's answer to the Pre.

Sounds like a female pre tampoon pre pregnancy pre menstrual pre is a female thing

Also looks like a giant tampon with rounded corners or a maxi pad with extra girth in the middle...looks like an iPhone with a belly, with diabetes and a premenstrual bloat.

Women use pre all the time: "are you pre?" (meaning are you pre-menstrual) what a name!!

How do you turn a pre into an iPhone?

So a premenstrual pre walks into a pre-diabetes center and says i want to be an iPhone

The pre-menstrual pre-term pregnancy expert Dr. Pre says:

"you need to exercise that belly off...that way your pre diabetes will settle down...you need to stand up straight and not hunch you look like your bra is streching under that pre menstrual bloat weight your corners are so round you look too premenstrual...and you are pregnant that belly you might have a pre-mee baby...girl you are so full of estrogen"

Not to side with anything, but I probably shouldn't tell you that 'phone' is phonetically close to 'fåne' in swedish, meaning simply "harmless idiot/dumbass". Together with "I" that would give you... well, pretty much anyone could probably figure that out.

Again, this is the internet so for clarification purposes I'm not saying that you are. Just trying to match your post level. :D

I was looking at an unboxing video, and the Pre itself looked very nice, however the charger and USB cable looked extremely cheap and tacky, can anyone who bought one confirm/deny this?

Premenopausal prediabetic premenstrual to lose weight

Can't wait to see Apple's answer to the Pre.

you take your iphone and feed it chocolate and other premenstrual comfort foods and in a year you get a prediabetic bloated belly pre model that looks pre gnant

So Palm released a device that nearly caught up to a device that is being phased out on Monday.
