All this is hearsay. Palm is just a lazy company who doesn't want to develop software like RIM developed for Blackberries to sync with Itunes. Then we have their supporters shouting anti-competitive bull. Why didn't Palm develop their own itunes when Apple was busy developing theirs and building up it's brand. Now they want to leech of Apple's hard work. Why haven't they made the Pre be able to sync with the Zune software, that's right they know nobody wants to use it, they just want to ride of the most popular service out there. Instead of sitting with Apple and coming to an agreement, they attempt to become "hackers". I hope Apple blocks it and if they want to take it to court, Apple has the money and lawyers to fight them.

Honestly, who wants another application added to their computer? iTunes is huge and Palm was smart to attach the Pre to it.

I wonder why RIM and countless other companies didn't think of this, why did Microsoft develop their own software and store, after all Itunes is huge and they could have attached their Zune to Itunes. Or is Palm the only "smart" company around?

Apparently there is no onscreen keyboard to supplement the physical one so when you are browsing in landscape mode and want to type something, you have to turn it to portrait mode and use the physical keypad.

The iPhone also hasn't had a landscape keyboard for every app for the past two years.

But yeah, it's a pain sometimes to have to flip sideways to type. It'd be nice to have both options. Suspect the Palm will be like Android, and sooner or later get a screen version as well.

How bad do you think it'd look if Microsoft, a software company in the same business as Apple, was using Apple software as part of their strategy? It'd look pretty awful.

Palm is not in the desktop software business and knows that they're never going to have an iTunes. They let people sync with iTunes and transitioning from the iPhone gets easier as does managing everything on the Pre. It was smart whether you want to admit it or not.

O.k got me a pre.

To people in denial. THE PRE IN TERMS OF USE outshines the iphone in every single way. PALM EXERCISED THEIR experience on the phone market with
how seamless they integrated everything.

I have been using the pre for the last 3 hours and from checking email to texting is way more intuitive then the iphone. Love how it handles notifications. THE UI FEELS LIKE HOW A 2009 PRODUCT SHOULD FEEL LIKE.
Specially love how everything is laid out in terms of organization.

I HATE HOW THE IPHONE HAVE PAGES AND PAGES of apps. IT FEELS CLUTTERED and sloppy. the pre is way more elegant.

GOOD BYE IPHONE SEE YOU IN 2 YEARS.

So how are the apps organized in the Pre?

Is RIM also a software company and they are also using Apple's strategy and they even advertise their program that syncs with Itunes.

I don't understand what you're trying to say, but regardless if you're saying RIM is a software company you're right but not the way Apple is. Apple is a mobile software AND desktop software company while RIM is a mobile software company.

No I'm asking you why RIM didn't take the same strategy as Palm since they seem to be the only "smart" one. What about Nokia, do they also do this itunes syncing with their iphones?

Blackberry's weren't initially for the general public but now they are. They are probably not going to sync with iTunes because acknowledging the competition is beating you somewhere isn't what most companies do. However, Palm obviously doesn't have their head up their ass and knows that iTunes is an awesome tool for syncing.

Just because someone else isn't willing to do it doesn't make it stupid.

So what about Nokia, Motorolla, Samsung, LG, HTC? Why didn't they think of this strategy, why did they not acknowledge that the competition is beating them? Why is it that only Palm has come to this realization, those other guys can't be that clueless. Why did Nokia go and make their own Ovi music store when they know Itunes is the biggest kid on the block and they can just attach themselves to Itunes?

Because no company likes to admit they are getting their asses handed to them.

Palm is on life support and figured out spending time developing something that the majority won't use is a waste of time when a great alternative already exists.

RIM is exclusively to Vodafone in Europe. Vodafone has their own music/video store. Same for Nokia and their Nokia Music Store. So it's pretty obvious that both don't want to support a direct competitor's online store.

Palm on the other hand ha no music store. They support iTunes and also have the Amazon MP3 store on the Pre pre installed. So everyone can choose what's best for them.

It sure sounds like more than majority if they keep touting it as a feature. If the majority of people weren't going to be using it, why would the likes of RIM develop software for syncing itunes. Anyways Palm shouldn't complain when Apple blocks it, if they want to take it to the courts, they better have deep pockets.

What music stores do RIM, LG, Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola have?

I am confused on what you're saying. RIM developed software for syncing iTunes? I don't quite know what you mean.

I dont get it if they wanted to beat the iphone they should have done smoething a bit cooler besides faster processor and a fancy little OS

The pre launch doesn't seem to have set the world alite. Reading on palminfocenter that one poster said every store selling it was empty and had plenty of phones. Apparently this exactly what palm and spring wanted as it allows them to ' manage ' the launch properly.......

I have to say I'm surprised but as one of my friends said no matter how good it is ( and personally I don't think it's that good, certainly no iPhone killed) unless it has an apple logo on it won't sell. He said his cool teenage kids and all their freinds all have to have apple products.

Also there is the fact that perhaps people are turned off palms attacks on apple and syncing with iTunes which could easily be turned off by apple.

It's like buying a jailbreaked iPhone which could be bricked by apple at the ned update. Not saying everything will shut down but the itunes syncing will.

Unfortunately for Palm, the iPhone already has the best OS in the business. The interface DOES matter. A lot. Palm got some things right with it. But again, about 2 years too late, in this economy (in which Apple is one of the very few that is prospering.) And no Apple-like ecosystem, no comparable app store, and a shaky/risky way to sync with iTunes.

And to add to all that, we've got . . . Monday: WWDC. New iPhone. New iPhone OS. Better iTunes. Possible innnovations with how it integrates within Snow Leopard and the Mac platform . . . and a new hill for Palm and the rest of the pack to climb.

I actually think the UI on the Pre is nicer than the iphones, that and the 3rd party multitasking is what I'll give to them. The UI makes the iphone's look kind of dated. I think Apple should change up the UI a bit.
